G2 colors Animated Grimlock

Hi there! Glad to see ya.

I had a spare Animated Grimlock laying around, so I thought I'd give him the G2 treatment!

Just wrapped on this, and it took alot longer than I thought. I basically had to MAKE myself stop! This is basically a repaint of Animated Voyager class Grimlock. I used various shades of Dupli Color Enamels, including Intense Blue Pearl and Medium Garnet Red. The gold was painted using a base coat of silver, then hand painted with Tamiya clear yellow. The sword was given a coat of gunmetal for the rock parts, then dry brushed with sliver. Finally he was given 2 coats of Pledge Future to maintain the super glossy, almost wet look.

He looks delicate, but he's surprisingly tough. That pledge future really turns into armor for paint once cured!

Any comments, love, hate or critiques are encouraged, thanks for your time!

Very nice paint job. Im always impressed with customs cause I know I could never do as good a job.

Awesome job, man!

The Future wax...is it a spray on, or a wet, brush on?

Pledge Future is actually a high impact acrylic floor sealant, and it far and away makes the BEST paint protection for figures. I just brush it on, it only takes a tiny bit, and it just magically spreads out to a perfect even coat. It dries with a super gloss finish, but you can mix it with clear flat coat to solve the issue. If you paint something like a car though, like a Transformer, it can really help make it look like that reflective high gloss real-car look. Once you let the pieces sit for a day or two, it makes your plastic pieces INVINCIBLE. I can barely scratch Model Master Acryl or Dupli Color enamel even if I try, but with Future on top, it takes sandpaper to scratch it. The stuff is amazing.

It's also amazing to add to acrylics, it makes the paint go on so smooooth. I never had any issues with brush strokes, but if I use clear paints, or something like flesh tones that need to be perfectly smooth, I always add a little Future. You can find it easily at most retail stores, at the Wally Martz it's like $5, but it's a massive bottle. I've had mine for oh, 5 months, use it ALOT, and I've barely even used any of the bottle!

Pledge Future. Sentinel Prime approves this message.

Doesn't it though? I flash dry figures sometimes with a hair dryer long enough to be able to handle and let them cure. It smells great :D It can be airbrushed too,, it's super versatile. Adding Simple Green will keep it looking wet. There is a super-guide to Future @ swannysmodels.com, amazing uses. I bet you guys already know though. lol

Really nice work though Sentinel, makes me sad they quit on season 3.

That is gorgeous! Since I have a G2 Grimlock, I felt some nostalgia when looking at your custom. Great paint job.
