Collectible Boxes?
Hi everyone
Just wondering what to do you do with your collectible toy boxes? Do you keep them? Store them, display your collectibles in them or you don't even take the toy out of the box and display as is? |
Used to keep all of them. But then I got tired of them... I throw out anything that's not super special, these days.

Everything else, I throw the boxes out because they take up way too much room. I used to keep my DCU cards and boxes, but since I got the DC Encyclopedia, I got rid of them all. |
I have two parallel collections of the same items. One set is kept mint in the boxes/cards, and are stored away (for some reason even I have yet to understand). The second set gets opened and displayed, and the boxes are thrown out. But, since I only personally collect one toy line, this is much easier than what I'm sure most people go through.

Personally unless it's super rare, I open them or buy them opened. If I had a big house I'd keep most boxes in a storage closet, but I live in a small 1 bedroom apt with limited space, so loose is the way to be. If it's a comic-con exclusive, the packaging is nicer then the figure, or if I don't have room to display it I'll keep it moc.

It varies with my collection, depending on several factors.
For Transformers, I will always try to keep the bio & stats section of the packaging. Sometimes that means one cut-out bit, sometimes the whole cardback or side of the box. This comes from way back in the day when they had Tech Specs cards on the back of the box/card (Clip and Save!). And sometimes the packaging design does not make this very easy (see DOTM, for example). I still have a whole box full of empty boxes waiting to be broken down because of this. F'n OCD. For just about everything else, I'll keep cardbacks (most of the time) but any boxes get thrown away unless they're for Con/store exclusives, high-end toys (imports, 3rd Party and MPs), and/or they have resealable packaging. For example, I keep the boxes for my SDCC Soundwave, TRU Soundwave, Shinken Red Figuart and all of my TF Masterpiece toys (both domestic and imported). I used to keep everything, but I've tried really hard to break some of those habits over the years. Attempting to move helps a lot with that, especially when you realise just how much crap you have to pack up. |
I have the CIE, Comic Conn, and Matty Collector Boxes stored mainly so I can Repack them if I need to Store or Amazon I typically toss them

i keep my transformers instructions but throw the boxes out
but i keep all Ashley Wood 3A boxes and shippers |
For Joes and other figures, I keep cardbacks. I typically keep vehicle boxes, as they're good for storage of the vehicle. Some figures, I'll keep the whole package intact, as I don't get many non-TF figures.

I keep all of my 1/6 scale figure boxes downstairs in the basement. They take up an entire room lol.
