Visionaries Set To Return?

Is Hasbro Prepping a Return of the 80's Visionaries Line?

Catatronic 10-17-2014 07:16 PM

Visionaries is one of the most underrated cartoons from the 80's. The animation was awesome & the whole idea blew me away. The figures were really cool but the vehicles could have been better. It's too bad most toy lines from the 80's bombed. All the good toy lines were dumped on us all at the same time between '77-'89. No way we could keep up with them all. Probably would have been better if they had spread them out over a few decades. But anyway, I love the Visionaries & would love to see new updated toys.

I agree with everything you said. The late 70's into the 80's was a magical time to be a child who enjoyed cartoons, toys, and comics. Visionaries was an under-appreciated 'toon that was overlooked due in large part to the plethora of choices in viewing. I am very interested to see if Hasbro can resurrect this property in today's market...

Runamuck 10-18-2014 03:10 AM

Ohhh, nice!!! I do hope they do the original toys and/or cartoon justice. While I didn't have very many, I did enjoy the ones I bought as a kid. Very underrated, in my opinion!

Galaxy Ranger 10-18-2014 05:01 AM

Very cool!!!

captainN 10-18-2014 07:11 AM

I hated that we never got a season 2 to this & there was very Very much going to be a season 2 they even made a season 2 toy line that never came becuse the show end with season 1.
To bad The Hub is gone i wood have loved to have seen Visionaries make a cartoon & toy come back. To this day i Love this cartoon/toy line. I wood love for the old cartoon to make it to dvd one day.

Hi all, think we better clear this one up (as it's been a busy week for Visionaries fans) - the first even Panel, a small seen announcement on ground breaking news my brother found on Monday, the Trademark news we uncovered on Wednesday, and now this story (slightly premature)

Lets take a trip through time.

Travelling back one day

Oct 17 - Toyark post ground breaking news of Visionaries trademarks - is there a movie in the works, maybe new toys? The Toyark - News - Welcome to The Toyark!

Travelling back 2 days earlier

Oct 15 - We update our USPTO page with Visionaries trademarks from the 80's and 2010/2013, after our earlier discovery - Transformers Trademark Applications | Transformers At The Moon - www.transformertoys.co.uk

Travelling back 2 days earlier still

Oct 13 - Steven Mapes discovers "the big one" (posted on his facebook page). News that in 2013 AGE, the company that owns the rights to (and created) The Visionaries, had acquired the rights and had started looking into producing a Live Action Visionaries TV Series. We discovered further evidence of the planned series after making contact with the someone who worked as the Production Design and Brand Development on the Live Action Visionaries series in 2013. His role was to design and pitch for a new Visionaries Live Action Franchise set to be produced by the producers of the TRANSFORMERS franchise.

The plans were that after both the Transformers and GI Joe movies, the next film in the Toy/Movie franchise was to be Micronaughts, directed by JJ Abrahams. This was planned as a 3 movie franchise and would be followed by The Visionaries. This never arose.

We are looking into how far the pitch for the Live Action Visionaries TV Series and possible Movie got

Travel back 1 day earlier

The UK Convention Roll Out Roll Call has the first ever Visionaries panel looking at preproduction pieces as well as unreleased Series 2 figures and concepts, by David and Steven Mapes (ourselves)

Conclusion

Although we would love for a Visionaries film to me made, we have found no evidence this got past the 2013 pitch

We shall be covering more on this on TheVisionaries.net soon with more information and sources on this story

Couple of things

1) The show is on DVD already, though you need a region 2 player. It as released by Metrodome

2) The season 2 toys were cancelled due to poor toy sales, and high costs. Hasbro didn't create the Visionaries brand, they bought it (something else we will cover).

I do agree though it is a shame that Visionaries hasn't made it back, though what we've seen of the planned TV series (well one concept image).. shudder, it wasn't good

Dr Kain 10-18-2014 09:46 AM

Visionairies was cool, but I'm long past interest in this series.

That's all good info, thanks for the clear up.

To tell the truth, I missed all of it. Since this is a toy site, until something with these old school properties come up that's toy related, it usually doesn't get on the radar. We definitely weren't on the daily hunt for new Visionaries info, just dropped in the inbox.

I dug the show and had a couple Visionaries figures as a kid, but it was a secondary thought. I'm just eager for Hasbro to develop more of their in-house properties into new toy lines/shows/movies, this being one of them. They have a lot of potential for boys action and are just sitting on it.

Though, if what you say is true with the AGE folks, looks like Hasbro could be running defense preparing for a legal fight like what they're doing with the D&D movie rights holders.

A few things:

1.) Micronauts was the title.

2.) AGE. Abrams Gentile Entertainment. Marty Abrams. Talks alot, but little ever progresses too far.

Take anything that comes up about Visionaries with ginormous grains of salt.

jestermon 10-18-2014 03:10 PM

This is great unfortunately they will probably have 5poa and less than the original figures did.

Hopefully, they still have the hologram gimmick.

Bradsdadg 10-18-2014 04:31 PM

These were pretty cool and it would be interesting to see what they do with them. Hmmm, gets me wanting to see MASK remade, anyone remember those? I had most of the vehicles as a kid :)

Thanks for the info. Visionaries isn't a property I follow, really, at all. Like Tony B. Said, We got the PTO links from SilverOptimus and simply shared those in a story. If there is more to this, feel free to drop me a link or post the link here when your story runs. I'd be happy to share it with the viewers. :thumbs

This sounds like a pretty complex topic but my 2-cents worth would be that I still have all of my Visionaries figures and one of the vehicles from my childhood and I would love to see a modern-day version of the line released, especially in 3 3/4-inch scale. I guess I need to look into some of what's referenced here in this thread to get caught up on all this.

Thanks Joe, I'll certainly do that.

I'm a big fan, I've got a complete collection of the toys and customs in the works for the unreleased second series.

There was a fan site for Visionaries, but it got hacked and taken down a few years back.

Would love a new series of toys!

trebleshot 10-23-2014 09:48 PM

I wouldn't mind seeing a comeback for Visionaries. They fought right alongside my Star Wars, TFs, Joes, MOTU and dozens of other Eighties figures I had as a kid.

But the Hasbro-owned line that tops my list of 80's properties I want them to bring back is still M.A.S.K.

M.A.S.K. was very cool. The scale was off (or smaller in comparison to other things - "off" might be too strong a term), but the focus was firmly set on the vehicles which featured some cool designs. I guess, now that I think of it, the smaller scale might have made keeping a collection of MASK vehicles easier as kid. Joe vehicles were a little cumbersome (storage wise) and the scale of that line was only slightly larger.

Let's not forget this (glad I kept a screenshot)

This is from that huge database leak earlier this year or last year.. (Can't remember but I kept it anyway)
