It works for the animated figures to help maintain their look.

No, it doesn't, it's ugly & ruining the sculpts, specialy for female characters.

Most animated guys would not look right with ball joint hips, the break would be too obvious especially on anyone with a suit. The girls could do it, but like Two-Face or Joker would look bad. Being based specifically on a cartoon means that when a male figure in the line is standing straight they should have very straight lines along their body. The live-action and some comics toys should go ahead and upgrade to ball hips but in general the animated aesthetic benefits from basic swivel or H-cuts for the hips. Also the animated figures have minimal sculpts so there isn't much detail to "ruin" in the first place.

My first post was about the Tv Arrow & Flash figs, but I agree with you for the animated versions.
Since the animated figures are very stylized, it's more the general aesthetic of the figure that is ruined by these leg/hips articulations. Compare the old Kenner TAS Catwoman with the recent DCC one, the V cut at the hips doesn't break the lines of the figure like the "Mattel-like" are doing.

Yeah keep the animated style going, it's perfect. Don't listen to some dude wanting to play with them like $5 toys
