McFarlane Mortal Kombat
|
damn, McF is growing big time........ its gonna be a Storm Collec. VS. McFarlane fight for this franchise.
|
Awesome, now I don't have to look into getting an insanely overpriced storm collectibles scorpion
|
Wow! He is coming out swinging. He is really going to have a presence. Again not to bang my same drum.....but in his hay day he had a huge market share for toys. He had all 4 major sports locked down, spawn and other image comics, horror like monsters and tortured souls and movie properties like movie maniacs and many other films....plus military and anime figures. So the man knows how to do this.
My issue is will walmart(which already carries much of his stuff along with target)and target expand in to the actual toy aisles. Where else can he sell? Barnes and noble,Best Buy,Walgreens,GameStop, fye stores super markets? I guess all of the above and more we hope. And of course amazon. The days of media play, suncoast video and Sam goody are long gone. Along with Kay-bee and toysrus. I think he needs to really look into direct to consumer methods. Starting a collector site like Matty could really work for all involved. Any way....this is going to be a freaking awesome toyfair. I just hope the other companies bring it like Todd is. |
Hopefully we'll see classic MK outfits, don't love the franchise enough to pay Storm's prices.
|
now its really an excellent time to be a Collector

Sorry...I'm not really big on Todd's stuff. I used to collect the 5 inch Walking Dead stuff and some of their REACH Halo figs, but I dumped nearly my entire collection of McFarlane toys a while back because I got tired of dealing with how fragile they were. The Fortnite stuff looks okay, though I've read similar complaints about fragility where the figures are concerned online, (and much of the new articulation, while improved, looks ugly.) While they were one of the originators in high quality sculpts, until they get their **** together with their plastic quality and articulation, they're still a second rate NECA or MEZCO. Hopefully these new licenses will force Todd to up their game in those areas, but otherwise, I can't find much reason to get excited about this...especially when Storm is hitting it out of the park with the MK stuff. IMO, The only reason I feel people even gripe about Storm to begin with is the import prices (a sour grapes complaint) and the time they take to get the figures out. |
Trek
Based on the news, I would expect these higher profile IP's to absorb much of McFarlanes resources in bringing to market so if Walking Dead is finished, I cannot imagine Star Trek going far this next year. Maybe Spock but I don't expect anything else. I hope I'm wrong.

Going to be real hard to top what Storm is putting out.
|
If anyone can compete with the big figure companies, its going to be McFarlane. he can compete even with the big boys like hasbro, mezco or neca. plus he is a pioneer in the fig industry. and if you dont have (physically) any of his new figs then your comment is INvalid. dont just say: "it looks ok" if you dont even have it in hand...
|
In. Sane.
Honestly, don't see how they'll be able to improve on the Storm stuff, which is one of the most amazing lines currently going. But, open to seeing what he's got up his sleeve here. |
Man, so many companies have been taking a stab (heh) at Mortal Kombat figures lately. Jazwares, Mezco, Storm, and now McFarlane.
|
see....now this muhfugga got me HOPING these figs come out correctly.
i'm crossing my fingers and toes for this.. and maybe we'll get more than two characters and different colored ninjas over two years. |

Mcfarlane looooves to sculpt- i bet we'll be getting MK 11 style characters from him- all armored up and detailed... and hopefully in the 7in scale he likes so much so they can fit in with my Storm collection.

McF on the other hand is quiet fast, albeit low on quality. But given that we do get a new MK every 4 years with new character designs, Storm seems like a bad bet to hope to collect all the characters for a given entry of the series. In a way, that is probably why Storm has sort of locked their focus onto the Klassic costume designs. That way, they can slowly work on them without any time pressure to have it released before the next entry etc. |
If they follow the beats of their Fortnite line these could be good, however, as someone nine figures into the Storm Line I hope it doesn't impact their licensing arrangements. While Storm may be slow their figures are awesome. That said, if McFarlane drop some solid figures i'd likely collect both lines.
In terms of speed McFarlane may well be no better than Storm. Those who collect their Borderlands figures are well aware of this. We've got four figures in two years with the fifth and sixth figure having been delayed over six months montns. It would really suck if Storm loses the Mortal Kombat line only for McFarlane to give us a half dozen ninjas in three years. |

Excellent, more barely articulated statues.......
Yeeeeeeiiiiii....... |
Pass for me. I can’t give a penny to McFarlane for personal reasons. For those that like the idea, I’m glad for you!
