Toyark's MAFEX John Wick Galleries
MAFEX John Wick Photo Shoot
Here's the movie poster for the photo shoot hehe. https://news.toyark.com/wp-content/u...hn-Wick-48.jpg |
Nice. Just saw John Wick 3 yesterday and it was pretty damn good.
|
This figure was my gateway into Mafex figures. Everything felt nice and smooth, and then I picked up Bane, and my God, the QC issues I had with it were enough to push me away from Mafex for the foreseeable future.

That face is waaaaay to anime...
|
I think this figure is pretty close to perfect. I was really surprised how sharp the faceprint looks in-hand which I rarely expect from Medicom. Also lovely pictures especially the water droplets/effects.

I think the mouth open non-wet hair is better overall, I just don't like the open mouth, on most figs. They rarely look good. Always takes me out of whatever realism was going on til you get there. |
I think overall Mafex did a nice job on this figure. The head sculpts aren't great but they are recognizable. I like the Mezco One:12 better but if you can't that one this is a very decent runner up.

Tony, spectacular photo shoot. Your stuff is always a work of art, with the use of lighting, water, etc. But how did you do the shot of the glass with the Continental logo on it? Did you Photoshop that on?
So far the MAFEX figures I have are Gwenpool and RofJ Boba Fett. Gwenpool was pretty much perfect (she seriously looks like she stepped off the pages of Gurihiru's artwork), although I had to go through the return process more than once to find one without any glaring paint issues. Boba is also pretty much perfect and probably the best Boba figure that will ever be made at this scale, aside from the one issue he has with his gauntlet cables popping out with the greatest of ease. I know it wasn't directed at me, but my Bane had extremely floppy leg, torso, and shoulder/where it connects to the torso joints.
When he's just standing there with his coat he's perfect, but otherwise he's incredibly floppy. |

I took that image in camera, put the fig behind glass and sprayed water on the glass, etc. Lights and colors such also in camera. Edited as normal to make it pop. And then applied the Continental logo in Photoshop, reversed. Technically I could have printed the logo on see thru film at proper scale and applied to glass before shooting, but this was way easier :) |
Well, the end result was well worth the effort. Really awesome shoot.

Chapter 2 is in the house:

Awesome shots Tony! :) Love the one with the orange lighting the best, though all of the variations look pretty amazing, especially the one with the smoke too.
About the figure, the resemblance is pretty decent too! |

Faces are better on this one, but I think DST is overall better at capturing likeness. |
