 Actually pretty tempted to jump in on this guy

Harbinger 07-11-2019 11:40 AM

Get cookie monster to ride on a kota the triceratops!

UFOTECH 07-11-2019 11:51 AM

I can't believe corporate let those idiots do this. There is litterally a ton of other epic scale things they could have done. I would be absolutely shocked if this hits 3000 backers. This has to be one of the stupidest crowd funding ideas I have ever seen. Just wow.

RamenRider 07-11-2019 12:01 PM

But... why though?

They have all these amazing properties at their hands were collector would die to have properly scaled figures or vehicles which would be to niche / expensive for retail and they make... Cookie Monster?

I hate to say it as there are bound to be people who want this but I hope it fails.

I think this is incredibly awesome, and a bit random for the HasLab but this is a great character from Sesame Street to do, better than if they had done Elmo. At any rate, this is too pricey for me, so I'll pass on it but I'm certainly not mad this is happening nor do I wish for it to fail simply because I won't be buying it.

Comedian 07-11-2019 12:16 PM

I thought marvel or Star Wars, of course with those 2 properties not secured by hasbro beyond 2020, maybe this plays it safe. Also, who ever said there can’t be more than 1 haslab at a time? Cookie Monster may strike a nerve with many in the muppet collecting groups or just someone who thinks it’s cool.

I hope this succeeds, but this is not for me.

MarvelGuy85 07-11-2019 12:42 PM

lol why would you hope it fails? That's pretty moronic. If this fails, maybe Hasbro starts to re-think the whole process in general and you get nothing else after this from Haslab. Just cause you don't like it, great, don't buy it.

I think it's a unique idea. I won't get one, but I hope it does well. My reasoning is I'm pretty sure I can get a large stuffed animal for like $100 or less. I've seen them at Walmart and Target. How about those huge bears for Valentines day? You're telling me there's not a random cookie monster some where for less than $300?

Black Arbor 07-11-2019 12:43 PM

Seriously, calm down guys! I think this is awesome and I'm definitely grabbing one if I can save up my pennies! There's definitely a market for these, just look at the Master Replicas Muppet figures, the fact that this will just add to that collection is amazing and no different that NECA picking up the Simpsons license and doing the celebrity figures in the WOS style. Not everything needs to be Marvel or Star Wars from Hasbro, and I'd bet money we get a Marvel announcement before the end of the year. Chill your beans, Jimmy Deans!

Maverick 07-11-2019 12:48 PM

Well this is some pretty disappointing news. Of all the cool things they could try and find this is what they came up with.

metalalchemist 07-11-2019 01:45 PM

Really? A $300 plush? (yeah, it get is has an internal "skeleton" but it is essentially a plush)
And on top of that you need to crowd-fund it? Come on!!!

deecee4 07-11-2019 01:56 PM

Unexpected and random. Wouldn't surprise me if this is something Disney mandated Hasbro to do but whatever. If this was for an Ernie or Oscar the Grouch I'd be interested.

Whovian2018 07-11-2019 01:56 PM

I think this is great. For one, this is not a plush. This is a replica made with accurate materials and patterns. It is fully pose-able, will come in a collector style packaging, and have 2 original pieces of art work that were not shown. Can you get a large Cookie Monster plush for less? Yes. Will it be as accurate? No. This is basically like Hot Toys. Yeah, you can get a cheap and fairly accurate figure of the same characters, but they won't be as detailed.

Considering how many people here will spend a ton of money on Marvel Legends, which are basically repaints of the same body mold over and over again, there sure is a lot of negativity with this product.

If this doesn't appeal to you then that is fine, it is clearly not for everyone. But to hope a project fails simply because you don't want it? Why? It's not like they were going to make something else and decided instead to make this. This product existing does not affect anything other line they have.

Considering Disney has zero ownership of the Sesame Street characters, I would be highly surprised if that were true.

deecee4 07-11-2019 01:58 PM

I thought they did? In that case never mind.

victoryleo19 07-11-2019 02:03 PM

Hahahahahahahaaha

This is a joke right?.....

Hahahahahabahaha

I can't even.....hahaha...seriously...haahahahahah

Hasbro....hahahahahah

ShabbyBlue 07-11-2019 02:06 PM

They own the Muppets. Doesn't Sesame Street fall under that same license?

It absolutely does not.

Batman 07-11-2019 02:10 PM

This is great. He looks awesome. I love Cookie Monster. Would love to see it make it to 3000. I like that they are willing to take a chance on something like this. This would be the the Cookie Monster to own.

Jim Henson specifically kept the Sesame Street characters from getting sold in the Muppet deal with Disney, can't remember the exact reason offhand but I think it had something to do with not wanting them slapped on every product under the sun

No.

Sesame Workshop owns all of the Sesame Muppets. They are in no way owned by Disney.

No. The Jim Henson Company was bought by a German media company in 2000. In 2001 the new owners sold their portion of the rights to the Sesame Street characters to what is now Sesame Workshop, formerly the Children's Television Workshop. This was the company that produced the show, but didn't actually own the Muppet characters on the show. They also got the right to call characters Muppets, but they are no "THE" Muppets, which is the branding for characters from The muppet Show franchise of characters that the Jim Henson Company sold to Disney in 2004 after the company was sold back to the Henson family.

So yeah.... there is some weird history and separation of properties happening here. Sufficet to say, Sesame Street is in no way owned by Disney.

ShabbyBlue 07-11-2019 02:21 PM

That makes this even more unusual of a choice then for Hasbro since it has no direct ownership or indirect (Disney) ownership of the Sesame Street characters. But whatever.... good for those who want it, but it's an easy pass for me at $300. I was really hoping they'd do something with Transformers (a larger Unicron) or GI Joe (kickoff a 6" scale 80s cartoon line up), if not something else Star Wars related.

And yeah, if this one fails to meet its goal, it might be the last Haslab we see, and that makes it a risky venture in my opinion when they had other better options that appeal to a much larger collector community with disposable income (ie. their own GI Joe and Transformers licenses that DON'T expire in 2020 like Marvel and Star Wars). I hope it succeeds for those who want it and for the rest of us that hope for more Haslabs in the future.

En Sabah Nerd 07-11-2019 02:21 PM

What is with the negativity? Nothing that we were aware of got canned for this to happen.
