Hasbro Gets Ghostbusters License

Hasbro Acquires The Ghostbusters Master Toy License

Comedian 08-21-2019 09:25 AM

Sounds to me real ghostbusters could be happening.

I wonder if NYCC will yield any info or pics from hasbro.

Questions of course are, is diamond select done? Is Mattel done?

Mattel is definitely done. They haven't had the license for a bit. DST is likely done as well, unless they hold some type of sub-license.

Comedian 08-21-2019 09:36 AM

Ok, good to know. Any chance of those ghostbusters/wrestlers happening then or is it totally over?

I have high hopes that we can finally get the 6” scale ecto-1 we deserve.

Oh, right, the WWE Ghostbusters. Yes, those should still be released as Hasbro's license doesn't kick in until 2020.

So excited for this news!!! Hasbro has done incredibly impressive work with their recent Power Rangers line. Can’t wait to see what they do with Ghostbusters!

Wonderful Toys 08-21-2019 10:38 AM

I'd hoped Hasbro would get the license back because now, Hasbro can remake the vintage Real Ghostbusters figures like they're doing with Star Wars, maybe even do the movie Ghostbusters in a vintage style.

It would be cool if they did a MOTU Classics take on the figures and keep all the action features

Primacron 08-21-2019 11:19 AM

If we get Real Ghostbusters I will be so happy!

webz 08-21-2019 11:28 AM

3.75" Ghostbusters would be great, that way they could do all sorts of vehicles, playsets, etc from the cartoon, movies, and games... and being the small size, they don't have to worry about likeness licensing and fees. Most hardcore fans already got the Diamond or Mezco sets. Not sure how much demand there is for more 1:12 scale Ghostbusters.

ShabbyBlue 08-21-2019 11:37 AM

I don't think I'm up for yet another Ghostbusters line. I collected the Mattel line, then collected the DST line since they were a vast improvement on Mattel's figures and I couldn't resist the build-a-sets. But for Hasbro, I'll probably pass on yet another 6-7" line unless they can offer an Ecto-1 vehicle (something Mattel and DST both neglected to give us). If they did a 3.75" line with vehicles, I'd be all over that though.

OriginalFire 08-21-2019 11:53 AM

Perhaps Diamind Select Toys were not able to remake the vintage toys

That seems more like something Mattel would have done.

metalalchemist 08-21-2019 12:59 PM

What's interesting here, is that no one seems to be interested in the new movie line, but the cartoon. Ironically, the move was directed to the new movie... hope this doesn't blow back.

Primacron 08-21-2019 01:05 PM

3.75" Real Ghostbusters would be even better, the original figures were on the smaller side so hopefully it's not out of the question.

deecee4 08-21-2019 01:15 PM

Maybe we'll get a Haslab Staypuft Marshmallow Man.

I guess without seeing so much as a trailer or stills of the characters in costume, it's hard to be interested in action figures for it. That doesn't mean there won't be interest once the publicity starts.

Super Joe 08-21-2019 01:43 PM

3.75" hasn't been done. Love to see it in this scale.

Super Joe 08-21-2019 01:56 PM

3.75 toys (Ghostbusters, Top Gun, etc)

3.75 epic playsets + vehicles!

Hard to be excited for something we know nothing about. The previous attempt to reanimate the brand fell flat, despite the talent. We really don’t have any idea if the “old crew” still have the chemistry they did 30 years ago, especially after losing a major part of what made the first two movies magical. Harold Ramis was instrumental in channeling all the crazy creative energy on set.

Krunomo 08-21-2019 04:57 PM

I'm going to be real disappointed if DST stop making Ghostbuster figures. Hasbro ultimately makes kids toys. They may have the articulation but they lack paint detail. That and DST have had some pretty good dioramas with these figures. Sure you had to buy 15 figures over 5 waves to complete a diorama but it was well worth it. Happy with their human characters as we have most of whats necessary but was really hoping to get some more ghosts.

Have you seen some of the latest Black Series figures, Marvel Legends, and their Power Rangers line? The Black Series Mace Windu looks way more like Samuel L Jackson than DST's Jules from Pulp Fiction does and in general some of Hasbro's latest offerings based on real people even give the high-end import stuff some competition. Hasbro does make kids toys still like the generic toy-lines for whatever new movie is out but they also make some seriously good collector oriented figures too.

DannyBoy7783 08-21-2019 06:07 PM

I got the first wave of The Real Ghostbusters from Diamond and was so underwhelmed that I cancelled the pre-order for wave 2. The articulation is outdated, the paint was thick and not that well done. Sculpts were....fine.

This is very exciting news. I would be very interested in a ML or TBS type of series in a 6" scale. I trust Hasbro more than any other company at this point. They aren't perfect but they do such a good job at such a low price.

Eh, Haslab isn't really required for something like that.
Only needs limited articulation and be slightly taller than those "Giant Sized" Star Wars figure they had around TFA and Rebels.

Haslab = firehouse

Comedian 08-22-2019 01:36 PM

If jacks could do a 4 foot darth Vader and strormtrooper for $80, someone can do a 4 foot stay puft rotocast for a reasonable price to go with our figures and have proper scale.
