Wow! Awful. The arms are way too long. He looks like a gorilla ghost. Man I want to like these, but I think motu dies with classics for me.

I’m in the same boat, and I’m pretty damn relieved tbh. I went all-in on Classics. Can’t do it all over again.

I'm not sure what to think of this line. I really want to love it, but it's an odd style. It's a lot like the Hasbro Siege Transformers line. It's JUUUUUUST classic enough to attract the attention of nostalgic geezers like me, but also just off enough that I'm not sure it's what I want. I agree that it's not worth it for collectors of the Matty Classics lines, but for people like me who never really invested in Classics, it's an option to get classic-inspired characters with a slightly modern toy design at an honestly fantastic MSRP. The $40-$60 price for MOTUC & Mythic Legions (after shipping) price these figures out of many collections. At under $20, these Origins figures might have a decent chance. I wish Mattel luck.

Arms too long?

Why is there always such a rush to get to Scareglow? Do people really like him so much? Glow in the dark is not a good gimmick anymore. You can buy your own glow in the dark paint at Target.

Pass this entire line. I'm done with He-Man after classics. There are far better lines out there that require my wallet's attention.

This line is cheap at 14.99 per figure so, why not pick them up. I agree they should have just finished MOTU Classics and the Filmation stuff also from Super 7. Super 7 had some fun stuff happening. The price point is what will make me buy these and that's about it. Also, there is the Mondo stuff also. TMNT still goes on and on for each generation of kids, so why not MOTU. I wonder if The Loyal Subjects stuff and also losing the DC licence made them want to try this. Once again it's the price point. They should have kept the Super 7 stuff going though

These are just...off. They should have probably done something fresh inspired by the vintage style instead of just adding articulation to the vintage figures. Or at least maybe instituted the articulation changes to a new body design.

I’m by no means a GI Joe historian, but this reminds me of the GI Joes of the late 90s/early 2000s, right before they tried something new (but similar to the classic style) with the Spy Troops and Valor vs Venom lines, which ultimately led to the 25th Joes. That’s funny in itself because the 25th Anniversary line really kickstarted the trend of modernizing classic toys, and seems to have partly inspired MOTU Classics. Now MOTU is going backwards. I honestly think they’d be better suited trying something like the MOTU 2k line again, or hyper-realistic takes a la Mythic Legions or something.

Good point. And not to get off-topic here, but the 25th Joe line is easily one of the best overall toy lines of all time.

Mattel messed up by never really making MOTUC for retail other than some Vs DC character two packs that only die hards got for the MOTU figure in them.

They basically ignored every casual fan out there who didn't want to subscribe, mess with online release dates or preorder. They could've kept obscure characters as sub service/online only.

The good thing about these new Mattel figures is they seem to be the same scale as vintage vehicles and play sets.

They might want to revise those proportions, maybe it's all right in hand? Pictures can't always be trusted.

I can’t agree with this. They went all out for the 200x relaunch of MOTU and that line crash and burned. I can understand how they were hesitant to put too many resources into classics. Retail stores probably wouldn’t have stocked them anyway without significant media behind it.

There was less MOTU nostalgia in 200X, Mattel over did the Skeletor and He-Man variants to the point that finding any other character in stores was a chore, IIRC.

Retail stock questionable stuff all the time that lacks current media. Look at Target's retro MEGO stuff. Some of those 8" figures...limited appeal. Retro "Action Jackson". Retailers fudging suck anymore, anyway. This whole action figure thing is dying at retail, probably faster than we realize.

I know many people who work at a Target or Walmart, and trust me... action figures aren’t dying. The number of 40+ year old men trying to cling desperately to their youth is growing. Our fathers bought a sports car and a floozy secretary. Our generation buys toys. Each store has 8 to 10 “constant collectors” ... the guys who hit the store as product is put out trying to be first. Then there are 20-60 circular collectors ... the ones that hit every store in an area each weekend hoping to find something. Then after that are parents and kids.

Yes... KIDS. Those little crumb crunchers that the toys were originally designed for! They still buy toys! Just yesterday my heart swelled watching a group of 9 to 12 yr old kids giggling about grabbing a few McFarlane DC and marvel demogoblin BAF toys. They went to the self checkout and off with their treasures.

Makes me happy that in this day of entitled man-children swearing at Neca over bebop & rocksteady that a few toys still manage to evade adults and find their way to children.

I'm far from a MOTU expert, but I do not understand the gripes with the Origins line.

I have almost every Masters of WWE figure for me and my son to play with and they are great toys! The articulation is really well done even without double jointed elbows or knees. They can all hold their accessories fairly well and can be posed on one foot easily (an impossible feat for the vintage figures).

I was just telling a friend of mine that not only has Mattel given us exactly what many fan bases have been asking about for years (New technology in a older format), but they are delivering at such a low price! I wish there were more lines I was interested in that were under $20!

Glow in the dark is a GREAT gimmick when executed correctly. Scareglow confirms that. He's a fan favorite character that a lot of people clamor for (myself included). GITD has seen a large resurgence in the last few years.

I'm mostly ok with the Origins line. It's not perfect for sure, but I dig the concept. I liked Classics, but never went all in, so I've only got a few pieces here and there. So if I jump into Origins, it's a clean start and I generally like the look of the older MOTU designs.

I saw the prince Adam/He-man box set from the convention in person that a friend has. Looks great. Just enough retro and just the right amount of newness. Looks like a solid start to the line. I think the 200x line had a great cartoon, but the toys were just weird. They weren’t appealing imho. They weren’t modern he-man figures, they were superheroes dressed as he-man. The proportions were wrong. Too sinewy and lanky. I love that these are more squat and power-lifter builds. I want to see more. I might support this JUST to entice Mattel to release more figures at a price below $20.

My main issue with this line is that some designs look “forced retro” similar to the Mondo 80’s heads. I’m not sure how all the figures are going to look. If these are based on the upcoming Netflix show, I hope they show more designs so I can anticipate what some of my favorites will look like.

I actually dug the 200X line. The cartoon was great for the time it was released, even if Adam's voice was a bit too annoying. But the figures were a lot of fun to me. But the bad case assortments killed it, and I was out once I couldn't get Mer-Man.

I loved the cartoon. My son was 5 at the time we got him the full series box set. Watched it with him. The toys... just couldn’t get into them. I remember all the fanfare about “4Horsemen” etc. I thought the designs were too busy.

You were definitely right about assortments. I only recall seeing various He-Man and Skeletors at stores, and samurai battlecat or something to that effect. Don’t recall seeing anyone else.

Stupid question is this gonna be available at retail? I spent a fortune on the MOTUC one and had to sell it in a pinch. I’d love to snag another scareglow

Believe this is planned to be a Walmart exclusive next year from things I’ve heard.
