Hasbro Renews Star Wars and Marvel Licenses

Press Release - Hasbro and Disney Extend Marvel and Star Wars Partnership

Sideswipefriend 02-21-2020 08:15 AM

OH my GOD this is such a suprise who would have guessed?

VashTS 02-21-2020 08:26 AM

A license no one else can afford. I assume Marvel and Star Wars are a packaged deal.

I assume Hasbro is hoping for a Star Wars turn around, I doubt it. It's pretty much over.

I actually think they do a great job with Star Wars toys, but not much people want beyond Lucas characters.

Neoblackdragon 02-21-2020 08:36 AM

Probably not a packaged deal but if you already got Hasbro making all your stuff, why not keep going. On Hasbro's end, they wouldn't want to be left out of the next Star Wars outing really strikes gold.

I don't agree on there not being a potential Star Wars turn around. All it takes is one film. But if they continue as they are trying to market characters they pop in for 2 minutes and are easily forgettable, then yeah. There's this $30 figure in a big box for something I don't recognize.

Disney really did not make it easy to sell these character figures for the new trilogy. Even the desirable ones barely got a an altered look.

Now the Mandalorian? They actually created marketable characters.

Personally I wish they'd add more torso articulation and to dump those super rigid capes. Between Legends and Power Rangers, nothing exists for the Star Wars figures.

Also how is Darth Vader not just in continuous rerelease?

Dr Kain 02-21-2020 08:52 AM

Is anyone actually surprised by this?

Dolemite 02-21-2020 09:24 AM

Not surprised by the news, but very pleased. I think Hasbro's done a fantastic job with their Marvel Legends figures. Anyone else doing them would be a step down.

Comedian 02-21-2020 09:34 AM

I was a bit nervous. I hope it’s a better deal so prices can stabilize. Though it would have been interesting to see another companies take on the 3.75 scale since hasbro seems to be killing that part slowly.

Cheezah95 02-21-2020 10:09 AM

Marvel is no surprise obviously but i was a bit nervous about Star Wars tbh. i guess the real concern is the vintage collection and how much news that is going to get. we'll see tomorrow.

dukefett 02-21-2020 11:51 AM

I just hope the deal isn't the same and high end figures can get released here without a problem or a stupid price limit. Or even forcing Diamond Select to minimize their articulation.

MeLikeJinx 02-22-2020 04:36 AM

I wonder if like... Hasbro was gonna bail on SW, but then Baby Yoda made them change their mind. I bet Disney played hardball and charged them more than last time and that is what took so long for them to make a deal.
