Hot Toys Iron Man Origins Collection
Huh, okay, kinda cool!
Nice one. At least it's not another MCU Iron Man suit. Not a fan of the translucent parts, though.
I like everything except for the clear plastic. Is it removable?

Really neat looking figure. Does anyone have an idea of what the clear plastic pieces are supposed to represent? Some sort of energy effect or shield or something?

The clear parts make the collectible look cheap. Otherwise it looks pretty good.

I'll probably never get into Hot Toys purely because of cost, but I sure do respect their work. Can I get a 1/12 version (*looks at SHF and MAFEX)?
I read the descriptions and I still don't get the "crystal clear armor".
Was "crystal clear armor" ever a thing with Iron Man? I have never seen Iron Man wear a "crystal clear armor" on top of his armor. I admit I'm no expert on all Iron Man armors. Or was that supposed to represent an energy shield? "The most interesting feature for the figure is the inclusion of clear plastic parts that go on top of the armor, offering a pretty unique appearance among their Iron Man armors. ...They not only add additional sculpted elements, but also have some painted on details that blend in with the existing red and gold armor." Or was this "crystal clear armor" simply for visual effect? |

I think the crystal clear armor thing is for a visual effect only. It allows then to have new armor designs without actually designing new armor. Since the armor underneath is painted, they can just leave it clear and let the base figure add the color. It's the type of play feature you'd see on old toys. But I don't know their thought process.
Maybe the "crystal parts" are to avoid discolorations on these parts. :):mad2 (Something common in HT IM´s)
It's like a clear retainer for Iron Man armor.

Just wonder how long it will take HT to release a version where all the clear parts are painted metallic red. Will probably be a Toyfair 2022 exclusive or something.
So they are doing the comic armors now? If so, that's good. Sentinel did some with the Re:Edit line but they stopped. There are some pretty cool comic armors. I always wanted these over the MCU stuff.
I really wanna like this, but I think it looks kinda cluttered. Main problem to me is the weird, randomly-placed grey details on the gold arms and legs. They aren't small enough to just kinda blend in unless looking really close, and they drown out the broad strokes of the "gold limb" thing. They almost look like corrosion or decay, or more charitably, leopard spots.
In addition, I think their presence on the arms and legs combines with the similar detail on the torso etc. to make the overall figure look cluttered, when I think if only the limbs were made smoother/had less random detail on it, it would provide nice contrast to and breathing room from the detail on the torso etc., providing a nice balance and good-looking figure. |
