SDCC Matty/Hasbro Haul Review!
I gotta say, I really look forward to the SDCC figures every year. Even though I may not be impressed at first, once I have the toys in my hands, I'm usually never disappointed.
First, the Matty exclusives: DC Universe Classics Plastic Man. The box art is awesome for this toy. He comes in a special 75 Years of Super Powers mailer box, with some fantastic detailed art on the front and back (both the same image). http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k176/politik1/2-2.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k176/politik1/3-2.jpg Plastic Man comes with a pair of rubbery arms, file cards, rubbery neck extension, big cardboard glasses, a spring, paddle with ball, and what looks like a fly swatter. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k176/politik1/4-2.jpg You can take his legs off, as well as his arms, which come off by pressing a button on his back which releases his arms at the shoulder joint. You can mix and match every limb, which makes the fun factor on this toy just awesome! http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k176/politik1/5-2.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k176/politik1/6-2.jpg SDCC Toy Story 3 Lotso. Lotso is a new character in Toy Story 3. He's such a selfish character, and I love it! I can't open this because it will be used as a gift, but basically he's an action figure in scale to the 3.75" Toy Story line. He's plastic, and flocked, which makes him look like a stuffed bear. He even smells like strawberries, just like in the movie! (I actually have another one on the way since I wanted one for myself!) http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...itik1/13-1.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...itik1/14-1.jpg SDCC DC Infinite Heroes Starro the Conqueror! I'll be honest, I didn't intend to get this set, but at the last minute as I was checking out, I picked it up. At $50, it was pricey. I will say though, I love it. What can I say? THIS is what exclusives should be about. The packaging is amazing! It comes with a mailer box with the DC Trinity on the front. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k176/politik1/7-2.jpg This is a massive boxed set. For size comparison, here's it next to C&C Darkseid. It's a whopping 17" tall! http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k176/politik1/8-2.jpg The back displays some very cool comic art. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k176/politik1/9-2.jpg The figures have your typical DC Infinite Heroes articulation. All the characters sport the new articulation, except Green Lantern, which is the same one that came in the First Flight DVD. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...itik1/10-1.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...itik1/11-2.jpg There are lights and sounds with this set. When you press the button, Batman himself, Kevin Conroy does the voice over. He gives a quick background on the set as well as a brief bio of each figure. All you do is press the button to go to the next figure and the light will light up. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...itik1/12-1.jpg Needless to say, I will be keeping this one MISB. It's just too good to open. It's begging to be displayed, which is what I will do. Don't know what I'll do with the mailer box though. Too good to throw out, too big to store anywhere. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...1/P1050602.jpg Matty has really outdone themselves this year. Their exclusives are just awesome, and truly blows Hasbro out of the water, IMO. The packaging, the figures, everything perfectly captures the spirit of "exclusives." The one that Hasbro did that could compare, is probably the Galactus, but I didn't pick him up knowing I could find him at retail eventually. Now, onto the Hasbro exclusives.
SDCC GI Joe Sgt. Slaughter. Regular USA + Variant Triple T. Sgt. Slaughter was released with a variant (on the left) in his old camo uniform, and the wrestling USA version. He sports the typical GI Joe architecture of the 25th Anniversary Line, but he has additional articulation to his wrists, which allow him to hold a gun better. He USA version comes with a stand, staff, mic, whistle, and championship belt. The Triple T version comes with a stand, staff, machine gun, hand gun, and whistle. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k1...itik1/15-1.jpg http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k176/politik1/16.jpg I didn't open my Triple T variant because, well, I don't want to. Looks so much better in package. But here's the USA version in the Triple T. http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k176/politik1/17.jpg SDCC Marvel Universe WWII Captain America. The best Hasbro exclusive this year. He comes in a nice little mailer box. I did a detailed review on him, which you can read here: http://www.toyark.com/sdcc-marvel-un...-review-19592/ http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k176/politik1/18.jpg Finally, SDCC Marvel Universe Ages of Thunder Thor. He also comes in a nice mailer box. Though I decided against opening him, since Thor really isn't someone that interests me, and I planned on using him in trades or sales later on down the line. He doesn't look any different than other Thors, but I'm sure if I'm wrong, someone will correct me soon. :) http://i88.photobucket.com/albums/k176/politik1/20.jpg |
Nice score with all the SDCC exclusives. That Lotso is so freakin awesome. I wanted one really bad but I didn't want any other of the Matty exclusives so I passed. Kind of regretting it now.

Yeah, he's really great. Him and the DCIH set are my favorites from SDCC. He looks just like a stuffed bear, but he's basically an evil carebear! This one was for my nephew, but when I get mine, I'll probably add the review to this.

I LOVE my Lotso, I haven't even opened him up yet but was just amazed when I saw him in my hands. The Undertaker from WM15 is a great one too. The only thing I'm disappointed on is not being able to GET Slaughter. UGH.

Lotso is definitely awesome. I'm surprised I like him so much. As for slaughter, apparently they are looking into releasing a retail version. Probably won't be the same as the SDCC one though. SDCC Sgt. Slaughter to be available again at retail in 2011 - GI Joe News |
Well, it can't be exactly the same as the SDCC Slaughter. Of course, the only thing that they would need to change is the packaging, like the way they'll be doing the retail version of Galactus. It'd be very easy to rerelease the mold and put it in POC packaging. That would look awesome.
|
Yeah man. My feeling is they will probably release a new paint job too. Maybe Mauraders Slaughter, or Slaughter in POC theme. Jungle Slaughter? Urban Slaughter? Winter Slaughter? (That one might be stupid).
