Mortal Kombat and Earthworm Jim!!!

I have a soft spot for most of the things I liked as a kid, which includes computer games (specifically Mega Drive/Genesis and SNES era games).

I was a big fan of Mario and Sonic back in the day, and with the various merchandise both characters are getting, I assume are also popular with a lot of other people. I'm really looking forward to more 5 inch scale PopCo Nintendo figures, if they ever get released (I'm sure BBTS has been shifting the arrival data back by a month, every month for more than a year......).

Anyway, I was wondering whether the characters from other games I enjoyed back in the day are still popular? I remember the Earthworm Jim cartoon very fondly, and indeed have a complete set of the toys. I always wished they made figures for Queen Pulsating, Bloated, Festering, Sweaty, Pus-filled, Malformed, Slug-for-a-Butt and Professor Monkey-For-A-Head though.

Equally with Mortal Kombat, I remember staying up to the wee hours trying to do every fatality when a new game came out, and desparately wanting to see the Movie.

I'd love a 3.75 inch scale Mortal Kombat toyline, would anyone else be interested? (I'd also quite like a Street Fighter II toyline in the same scale, but not quite so much.)

All together now: "Earthworm Jim, He's such a groovy guy, Earthworm Jim, He rockets through the sky................".

There was a mortal kombat line and street fighter in the mid 90s think gi joe made them i have a few scorpion, smoke and E honda, vega from the street fighter lines they should do an up to date line though

I remember the GI Joe sub-line for Street Fighter and a similar line for Mortal Kombat. I had a couple of the SF Joes, but lost them when I moved once. They were nice, but I treated them more like Joes than SF characters (i.e no Hadokens or Shoryukens).

Street Fighter already got a really nice update with the NECA figures. I'd really like to see NECA tackle MK next, as far as 6"-scale goes.

As for 3.75", I think Hasbro might be able to take another whack at it. Who knows? It could the video game equivalent to Marvel Universe.

In Earthworm Jim's case, he's a pretty quirky character and I just don't see any new toy lines coming from that property unless there's a new game or re-issue on the horizon. Not that I'm against the idea, it just seems a little implausible right now.

I would love a 3.75" MK line!!! My roommate couldn't wait and just customized his own, which was pretty damn cool.

Also, am I the only one who thinks that the new (albeit old school style) MK9 should be the catalyst for another attempt at MK vs DC Universe, using that fighting engine? That way it could potentially compete against MvC3?

That and I want to see figs in the 3.75" scale for such a game :)

Good to see there's some love for the Mortal Kombat characters.

I haven't actually played any MK game since Ultimate MK3 on the Mega Drive so I don't know about any of the new games, but if it meant getting some new toys I'd be more than happy!

I think I remember those old Street Fighter figs, would be good to see Hasbro work their 3.75" magic on updated versions.

I'm actually quite happy with my EWJ figures since they were the last toys I got before trying to be a proper grown-up. As you can see, it didn't really last.....

Did someone else do 3.75 figures for Streetfighter aswell as Hasbro did microman or some one like that do some ?

behindthemask 10-12-2010 01:43 PM

earthworm jim never really had any merch other then the old 90's line, but I have seen a few decent customs made of him, both MK and streetfighter had the gi-joe style 3 3/4'' scale but looked like crap, Neca makes the streetighter toys in 6'' and 10'' scale and the detail is awesome, both in paint and articulation. Mk does have an older 10'' series, along with a newer 6-7'' scale, select figures avail though, Mortal Kombat Action Figures, Toys & Trading Card Game is examples of MK FIGURES

I do remember the Earthworm Jim action figures they released around the time of the TV show... Those were pretty decent from what recall.

Primacron 10-13-2010 01:44 AM

Yeah I've got some of those newer 6" figures - Sub Zero, Scorpion and Reptile.

Thinking about this it occurred to me that with 3.75" figure line (like Marvel Universe), I buy every character that I know, with 6" lines I only buy characters I actually like.

I like the idea of getting all of the characters from MKI but couldn't bring myself to get a 6" Johnny Cage, but a 3.75" one would be fine!

brianregan09 10-13-2010 06:33 AM

yeah if they redid Mortal Kombat and Street Fighter in 3.75 i'd buy them all and throw Tekken and Dead or Alive figures in there whilst you're at it
