The idea behind this thread is to discuss horror movies from all subgenres, whether they're campy, scary, gory or crappy. To start us off, my initial impression on yet another franchise reboot...

Friday the 13th (2009)

Following in the trend of remaking old (dare I say, classic?) horror movies, Jason is getting his turn at a makeover. I'm not sure what to think of this one, especially since it looks like they've completely dropped Pamela. She was one of the few things that made Friday stand out amongst the other slasher flicks and it was a great intro to Jason himself for part 2.

Pamela is supposed to be in the movie in the early parts, at least in the first working draft of the script I saw. SPOLIER Her death is supposed to be one of the things that sets him off END SPOILER.

I will say this, buzz from general horror fans, who have seen footage and such, has been really positive. I am really looking forward to it. F13 has gotten so off track and hilarious that it needed a swift kick in the pooper.

I'm looking forward to it as well.... I was skeptical when Rob Zombie re-did Halloween, especially with the stronger focus on Michael Meyer's childhood which was a big change from the original, but it worked, and gave a different perspective on a great movie to begin with, so I think this one could work too, especially since the franchise has taken such an awful turn in recent years.

On a side note, I'm also stoked for My Bloody Valentine 3D, even if turns out to be ridiculously corny...it's still a horror movie in 3D!

Yeah, I'm curious about that one as well. I took my wife to the movies the other day and they had a floor display for it showing someone throwing a pick axe. I will readily admit, though, it'd the 3D bit that's got me curious.

If you've never seen a movie in the new digital 3D, prepare to be awestruck. It's not like the old days. The glasses are pretty much all clear and the 3D itself is amazing, especially for film made using the new process (which I think MBV was).

I think it'll be good. I liked the Texas Chainshaw Massacre remake(even though I still prefer the original). Isn't a Nightmare on Elm st. remake coming too?

The Unborn looks weird as hell?

Yeah, I want to know why an unborn twin is a demonic 10 year old now. What the hell?

I just want to talk about 28 Days Later here, because that is my favorite movie of all time, and deserves recognition in any horror thread. Cillian Murphy is one of the best actors of our time in my opinion, and he really makes this movie good. He's such a visceral actor, and his portrayal as Jim really made that movie. The acting in that movie was just all around really good. Christopher Eccleston was also great in 28 Days.

Seems to be a rip-off of The Dark Half, which itself was a twist on The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde.

I thought it was really good, but I will admit I was skeptical at first. One of my biggest horror movie pet peeves is giving the undead the ability to run. But it was explained in the movie that the victims weren't undead, I was able to relax and enjoy the flick.

How is the sequel? I've never gotten around to see it yet.

The sequel is really good, but is more of a straight undead action movie(plus the running :P)

It's not nearly as psychological as the first one, but it's definitely worth watching.

Another horror I love is Dreamcatcher. Now I love the book, probably more than any book, and I hated that it wasn't spot on with the book,(in most cases, whole mini-series adapted from Stephen King books don't match up though)but I thought it was very good anyway.

Well, I'm a huge Stephen King fan and I enjoyed the movie for what it was. King's works have never been translated all that well to movies, though the mini-series versions are usually closer to the source than the regular movie versions.

The biggest surprise was Donnie Wahlberg as Duddits. Between that role and his cameo in The Sixth Sense, I gotta say that boy can act!

Yes! I loved him as Duddits. I also thought Thomas Jane played Henry really well and the same for Damian Lewis as Jonesy. Hell, pretty much everyone in that movie did an awesome job. Morgan Freeman was hard for me to take seriously, but for some reason I always have that problem with Morgan Freeman. If he's serious, it just never works.

I don't know if this is exactly horror, but have any of you seen Street Trash? It's a movie about homeless people and the face melting liquor called Viper. It's probably the campiest movie I've ever seen but also one of the funniest/best of its kind. The horror elements come from the Viper subplot... I just had to mention this movie.

Can't say I've heard of Street Trash, but based on the description, it would qualify as comedy horror. It may be camp, but it's still got blood, guts and death.

I've been a huge fan of horror for my entire life. I grew up on horror movies. It's the reason I love movies so much. I'm always ready with an iconic or even obscure film to recommend. And if you are ever i nthe mood for zombies, I'll be glad to point you to some gems.

Yes, they are making a Nightmare remake, however, Robert Englund will not be playing Freddie. It will be interesting to see what someone else does with the role. Hopefully, he will have the same campy sense of humor!

Actually, your social group on TFW is part of the inspiration for this thread. I figured it would be a good idea to open up some discussion here, especially since toys based on horror movies have a better place here than on TFW.

The Nightmare series is my favorite horror franchise (esp. 3-5), so I will be eagerly awaiting this one. I am also curious about who's playing Freddie and how he will be protrayed, since he started off as a serious killer and became a comedian as the series progressed.

I can't blame them for going with another actor, even though Englund loves playing Freddie. Hopefully, they'll give him a cameo as Krueger's father or something.
