Oekaki (doodle) Boards

Oekaki Boards (or Doodle Boards) are a great way to draw and share original and fan arts. They've been around for years but have pretty much only caught on amongst Anime Fans. The programs themselves are usually pretty simple but if you know what you are doing you can as far as creating photo realistic work.

Personally I use it to sketch down new ideas. It's quick easy and fun. After being hard core into Oekaki Boards for about three years, I've just recently got one of my own. It's a page hosted at http://www.oekakiart.com/.

Join the site by signing up to Oekakiart.com. You can then draw and comment on nearly every Oekaki Board they host. If you are already skilled in Oekaki you can even get your own page. I've been to just about every Oekaki community there is and this one is one of the best. Lots of very nice people.

If a small new site isn't your taste there are a multatude of options. The easiest way to start your journey is to just google Oekaki and find one that best fits your tastes and skill level. I'd also recommend checking out some Japanese boards, as they can be loaded with some neat ideas and artists.

Here's a little treasure I found on a 2Chan board.

So no matter where you go..... Oekaki's are awsome fun. So go find one and start drawing! :D

So if you are on a mac, can you still make doodles on oekaki boards? I don't know much about oekaki boards, but have heard of them before and am interested. Seems like it can be a productive addiction.

They are very addictive, drawing message boards basicly.

I don't know about mac's, but I don't see why there should be a problem. You can always try it out and see. Here is a good place to easily Oekaki, no need to sign up ; just go in and start drawing.

Warning not work safe.

Rules are rules, even with a NSFW warning, the URL did lead to a board with pornographic drawn cartoons. - Venksta

Near the top of the page are the controls... Click on the drop box that's labeled "painter" I'd sudgest picking "Shii-painter Normal".... then on the right click "paint" .... If it has problems loading you will need a Java update.

Lets keep this board family friendly, which means no linking to any sites that contain pornographic drawings. Its in the rules.

Feel free to post URL for another Oekaki board which has strict rules to not allow pornographic drawings. :)

I feel it, I feel the addition coming! What are the best, family friendly oekaki boards? I think it is a great way to jot down ideas/sketches and keep it online as a quick reference, not to mention it is addicting as it can become a secondary social networking tool.
