Marvel Universe Scale Inconsistancy...

I have just scored MU Cable w/ Hope off ebay and I was looking on google for pics of him and came across the below pic... is the cable really that tall? taller than Thor and Juggernaut??? Thor has got to be about 6'7" or so, so it makes cable look closer to 7ft!

maybe im just being nit picky, but when i loook at figures on the shelf where they have got the scale completely wrong, it just annoys me.

Im sure Cable is meant to be tall, like 6'6" or 6'7" or something, but taller than Juggernaut???

I also noticed how tall they made the Sentry.

What is it with Marvel and not keeping things in a good scale?

Their Marvel Select Deadpool is disgustingly tall, Marvel Select Wolverine (Movie vers) is alot smaller than movie Thor, Cap and Iron Man so he doesnt fit in either.

http://www.google.co.uk/url?source=i...M-CgljCA--3IAQ

The SDCC WWII Cap is almost as tall as Sabertooth.

There are alot of other examples im sure.

I would have thought they wouldnt have dropped the ball with MU like this.

I realize there is an issue with costs etc and maybe thats why they cant make the bigger characters bigger as such, but to make other characters to tall quite annoys me as an adult collector. Scale is something I think most of us like to be kept true to the character.

what do you guys think?? have you noticed this too?

omega145 09-14-2011 04:02 AM

Yea I think everyone has noticed this. Look at Hulk and how short he is. I'm pretty sure this is due to Hasbro reusing molds and not worrying too much about matching up correct sizes as either way this is a 4" toy line so how much difference in height could there really be in certain figures?

Nexodusrex 09-14-2011 04:08 AM

if you really wanna get into scale inconsistencies, look at Galactus
the Real Galactus is about twice as big in comparison to the MU figures at his feet.
lol

bmorr 09-14-2011 04:22 AM

scale has been an issue with all toys since forevor. its best not to think about it.

Yeah this is not breaking news. It's best not to worry about it. The stands make everyone taller anyway. So use a stand, bend the knees or remove material from the ankle. Those are some good ways level off some characters.

Not always- he was that small when he was running on empty in Byrne's FF run and the Avengers and FF took him down!

But "normally" he'd be about 7' tall to be in MU scale! not exactly an easy purchase!

As to Cable vs. Juggernaut, it's more a case of Juggy being shown at all different scales in the comics- he's right at that MU scale currently in the comics, but if you want a crazy Lifield-sized Juggy, get the one from the Spidey 6" line.

Cable is 6'7" tall in the comics- making him in scale with most figs (SW Cyclops, Wolvie, Soidey, all the women, etc).

In general, I think they do a great job of it, but some guys like Apoclypse, as big as the fig is, are usually (but not always) larger in the comics.
My only scale gripe is Nightcrawler- a nearly perfect figure that's too large...

omega145 09-14-2011 06:15 AM

This is why if you want a scale consistancy that you need to have multiple lines mixed in. I got rid of my MU Hulks and use the movie Hulk as a stand in as he is more in scale.

As others have said, there are always going to be scale issues in every toy line.
Look at most GI Joe vehicles, they are usually out of scale and much smaller than they'd be in reality. Scale is good for pictures but other than that just enjoy the toys for the articulation, detail and sculpts.

Scale is important and should be thought about more. Especially by Hasbro.

Take the Sentry. Why not just use a different sculpt? Same with Cable. He should have been an all new sculpt. I mean they can make a new sculpt for the upcoming Puck, which can only have so many actual applications, maybe a Mole Man but a wider built slightly shorter sculpt for Cable that could be reused several times.

I basically have two collections. One that's a bit smaller in scale and one that is a bit larger.

stjuggernaut 09-14-2011 08:20 AM

great comments lads. i was very surprised to see that they made cable this tall. i will definitely take about half an inch out of his legs if it doesnt end up making him too weird, maybe just a quarter would do the trick.

i have that exact same hulk for my movie avengers figures. its perfect scale, about 9ft tall i reckon.

although i will always have WW Hulk in there too because hes my favourite MU figure!

warmachine6 09-14-2011 10:17 AM

lol , it doesnt suprise me , im thinking of getting mu toys when i have a baf lke giantman and having an mu version of him i.e ant man so that i can do an awsome display of the baf as well as the mu , i will also get the 6 inch version , but if i was you for things like hulk , juggernaut etc the big guys just get the 6 inch ones, 1 cause they look better and are the correct height consitancy.

I think if it annoys you that much then you should either find a new hobby, customize your figures to be in scale, or collect a toy line that has consistent scaling.

I was too busy playing with my toys to notice that Cable was taller than Juggernaut and Hulk.

stjuggernaut 09-14-2011 11:33 AM

LOL. well it doesnt annoy me to the point where i am pulling an unhappy face, its just i suppose... irks me a little bit when they are making a great sculpt / representation of a specific character then they kind of make them look a little out of place next to their peers.

yeh i do customize, i have already drawn up plans to alter this Cable slightly!!

i dont play with toys, they are just for looking at for me, so i like to see some consistancy!

Do Boy 09-14-2011 11:36 AM

I do have a problem with the Hulk being the size he is. I think just because they made him bulk they prolly thought people wouldn't care.

Prem1x 09-14-2011 11:46 AM

Scale doesn't generally bother me too much, but I wish Hasbro would do a slightly better job of it, i.e. too tall Spideys/Nightcrawlers/Ice-mans/Cables and too short Magnetos/Daredevil/Hulk/etc.

I'm expecting that Cable body is planned for someone else that really tall and then we'll all finally appreciate how awesome it is. (now that I think, maybe Kraven is on this body. I didn't really think of Kraven as being really tall.)

I think MU is also undergoing a bit of height creep.

xhavoc86 09-14-2011 11:49 AM

This is a big gripe of mines too, I hate when figures look unproportional and not to scale with one another! From different toylines to within the same ones, it sucks :(

As a matter of fact various Marvel sourcebooks list Thor at 6' 6" and Cable at 6' 8", so Cable is officially much taller than Thor. Juggernaut could be larger, but then he would be too large for standard MU package and too small for Giant Battles package.

Oh I am pretty sure they could make Juggernaut a weeeeeeeeeee bit bigger and not have to use a new card. The newer MU figures are getting better in scale with one another, where the old waves, not so much. It honestly starts to feel like two different toy lines.

kostej 09-14-2011 12:32 PM

Be glad that you do not collect Transformers. Their scale inconsistency would make you mad. :D

Well, if they made Juggernaut in exact proportion to Cable, he would be taller and much heavier than he is now. Maybe there is some limitation to the weight of MU assortment...?

Also have you guys noticed that actual scale of MU figures is closer to 1:17 than 1:18?

I'm just curious as how the new MU Hulk figure will match up next year. He looks bigger than Juggernaut so maybe we will see a new Juggernaut in the next few years :P

Well we are getting a Juggernaut with no helmet But I am 110% sure its the same guy with a new head lol

Tiberius 09-14-2011 12:46 PM

Yea it is. What a useless comic pack. I would of prefered that Juggernaut to be the "running change" in a revision wave.

I'd have to agree with this. If anyone thinks MU is really bad at it, ask any Transformers collector about scale sometime. It certainly taught me to let things like that go and only complain about important things.

Like never having character trios that match in the same line any more (Seekers, Dreads, Wreckers, etc). ;)

While I would agree, history says it's not going to happen any time soon. I'm sure Hasbro does what it can, but the designers and sculptors are limited by their budgets.

Considering those are the first MU versions of both Sentry and Cable, there is a possibility that both will get updated figures later on. Look how many times they tried Wolverine before getting him more or less in scale with the rest of MU. Also, Daredevil is getting a new body and I think Magneto is too. So there is some hope.

Tiberius 09-14-2011 12:50 PM

I would of like to see a shorter Sentry was well. I think it can be done with a quick leg swap. I like the upper body but his legs are just way to damn long. the perfect figure scale wise will always be Constrictor, for me.
