Do you believe in Aliens?

I'm not asking if you believe that the universe is so big that there has to be alien life somewhere out there, because I think that belief is lame.

I'm asking if you believe in stories of aliens visiting this planet?

I heard a couple of doozies from a guy at work yesterday and I'm wondering what to make of them?

BlackRazor 11-08-2011 07:27 AM

Can you share some of those stories here?

I've never seen one but some of those shows I've seen on TV seemed pretty spooky. To me, the best are accounts by veteran pilots that have 20 or more years in the air saying on one flight they saw something so big that moved so fast, they've never seen anything like it in all their years of flying. Or the special about Soviet pilots reporting some strange things they saw in the sky.

Reaver Strike 11-08-2011 07:56 AM

The White House just did a press release indicating we have not made contact with aliens. There was a petition for the WH to release info on the matter.

The first story I will share happened while my co-worker was in the army.

He was in Hong Kong, had a local girlfriend, and like to spend a lot of time at a local hang out where he met a cab driver.

One day the cab driver told him there was someone who wanted to meet him. He took him 4 hours out of the city into a rural area. When they got out of the cab he asked him to turn around.

When he did there were 3 9' tall beings with ebony skin, Asian features, long, perfect hair, and flowing robes. They touched his face and chest and said something in an alien language which the cab driver translated as "You will see something important existing in this universe in the future and your perception of what you see will change the properies of what you see in this universe."

He turned around twice and on the 2nd turn the beings and the cab driver were gone.

When he made it back to the city, no one remembered the cab driver, including his girlfriend, who had spent some time hanging out with him and the cab driver together.

Wow! That would be freaky! Good Story. The only thing I have experienced was on a old country road in Oklahoma. There was a pretty good fog that night and as we approached a bend there was an abnormally bright light above a farm house. As I got closer I found it wasn't one light, it was 3 lights that formed a triangular shape. I actually stopped and got out of the car. I didn't hear anything so I shut off the engine. The lights were roughly 20 feet above the power lines. It was absolutely silent and hovering. I stood there slacked jawed and it slowly moved over the road in the opposite direction I was driving. So my buddy and I got back into the ride to follow it. But then it just shot off! And not slowly either, almost instantly! I have never experienced anything else like it. I can't say what it was only what it wasn't. A helicopter would have been noisy and windy from that height and it obviously wasn't a plane or it would have fallen from the sky. Like I said it was silent. I did however notice in one of those shows a pilot drew an image of something very similar to what I saw.

If Aliens are coming here..they really suck.

Consider: the solar system is vast- a ten kilometer ship- the size of the Executor from Star Wars- would be the smallest black hair in a deep dark well.
That being the case, Aliens could get anyting they need about us- including detailed DNA breakdowns- from our transmissions.

A ship hanging out just beyond the asteroid belt would have a few hours of lag time in listening in on our chatter, but that's pretty minor.

All of our internet traffic would be available to them.

Then there's the plausibility of sendng organic life out exploring- out air, with all it's viruses, bacteria and pathogens that evoloved along with us would be extremely hostile to aliens- and close proximity to them would likely be as bad for us.

But machines...they culd be out there, doing their thing.

Greg Bear has two impossibly great epic books- Forge of God and Anvil of Stars that deal with this notion- that "Von Neuman" probes could listen for inteligent transmissions, investigate and self-replicate by useing raw materials in a solar system to make more probes, which would do the same and continue the bigger mission.

The second book, Anvil of Stars is simply, the very best book I have ever read.
Period.

On Sept. 11th the same worker said he saw two creatures the size of small airplanes that looked like eagles with red, blue, and orage feathers with rounded edges in a part of the town we worked in where I quote, "you wouldn't expect to find them in."

He said they flapped their wings once and disapeared.

Optimus Vader 11-08-2011 11:16 AM

Yup,.. there's a few Canadians on these boards, in fact.

That sounds less like aliens and more like thunderbirds.

omega145 11-08-2011 12:02 PM

Nope not at all. If it was a discussion about other planets, or another part of space then possibly but not on Earth.

Tiberius 11-08-2011 12:12 PM

Nope, physically anyways. I met a crazy guy who said aliens would visit him through his mind and travel through out the universe. He even told me how to meet them! LOL.

Is that a serious thing, if so, could you explain a little more about what a thunderbirs is, supposed to be?

While I was talking to him, we eventually got to the point where we decided some of the things he had saw were more beings from another dimension than aliens from another planet.

I'm not interested in the possibility of life on some far off planet at this point because it hardly seems relevant now.

Stories of alien encounters here on Earth are interesting though.

I'm just wondering what to make of them.

now why would you say the most scientific viewpoint on this subject is "lame"?are you looking for sci fi fiction and acid trips or an actual logical explaination as to why there may be be life outside our solar system?to dis the logic for mere heresay is irrational and says to me you are only looking for good camp fire stories,im not trying to jump on you for that nor is there anything wrong with good stories, but thats all they are imo.

On the radio show (Coast to Coast) I heard a guy on there suggest that aliens some people see are actually some form of robot. Never thought about that before but I would imagine if aliens had the tech to travel great distances in space, they could probably build robots to do the exploring too.

Alien experiences here on Earth seem more relevant to me than their hypothetical existence somewhere else.

Sure, it's possible aliens exist somewhere out there, but so what?

Meanwhile, I work with a guy almost every day that swears he's had these experiences, and it certainly seems like at least he believes them.

So I guess that's why. Because it is something I am actually dealing with.

Is he lying, is it real, is he just crazy?

What say you?

It's weird, because the description he gave me of the 9' tall being reminded me of something I read in one of those alien books kids read.

And I think I'm remembering something now I read about thunderbirds in another like book.

That part I quoted above made me immediately think of thunderbirds.

He thinks he has a 3rd eye, kind of like a psychic powere, which would kind of explain why most people that hear his stories probably think he's crazy.

hypothetical?right, well I dont put the word hypothetical and science in the same sentence,we are looking at this question from 2 very different angles,by saying so what to the "hypothetical" existence "somewhere else" is also saying so what to your friends "claims" also, because they must exist out there first, but buy saying this would also denote that we are talking about beings which imo are not there, organisms perhaps, though im sure science takes a backseat to coast to coast AM with george norry right?I have a hard time digesting the fact that because you hear stories at work you would backseat science, people have been seeing ufo's and what not for years man,the key here is there is NO proof period, that is why science is "hypothetical",they base their findings on solid proof and if non exists then its a hypothesis,we could go round and round but the fact is neither of us know the true answer and that is that.

Many of us from the military who have spend time in Asia have similar stories. ;)

FancyPants 11-08-2011 02:27 PM

Most alien stories from the united states involve a drunk hillbilly and his tractor

Nexodusrex 11-08-2011 02:41 PM

I believe that in the vast cosmos that is our universe alone, that there is a chance there is another "earth" out there with some form of intelligent life.

That being said, you know they havent visited here because they would have nuked the hell out of us because Fox News is a threat to the universe.

stjuggernaut 11-08-2011 03:01 PM

anybody ever heard of the disclosure project.

its hard to discredit all these ex high ranking government officials... but unfortunately, even though this was years ago. the "in power" government still WONT admit they know of the existance of aliens.

at the end of the day. it can go through congress, be campaigned to death. if the governments of the world and spooks etc want to sit on the evidance and claim it doesnt exist, what can we do? not alot.
