What toy property would you develop?
If you had the final say to bring one new line to market, something not there now or recently what would it be?
What scale? what marketing and design features? Say you Have one shot, one retail series, say 6 different figures, 2 vehicles, max. |
3.75" MOTU line where each figure has ball and socket joints at the hips, knees, ankles, shoulders, elbows, wrists, and head.
The ball would be hard plastic, the socket would be soft; the idea being that all the parts would be interchangeable. Each figure would also have interchangeable armor and accesories; the selling point being that if you defeat another Master you can steal his power. The figures could have power actions and or special accesories to illustrate what power they have. Defeating your opponent and stealing their power would give all new meaning to the phrase, "I have the power!" First wave would include He Man with spring loaded waist for a "Thunder Punch", Man At Arms with a missle firring "Battle Arm", Stratos with wing flapping "Soaring Flight Pack", Skelletor with light up "Ram Staff", Beast Man with spring loaded shoulder for "Whip Slashing Action", and Mer Man with water firring "Water Breath". The 2 vehicles could be oversived beast: Battle Cat and Panthor. |
Dinosaurs.
There really desparately needs to be a line of fully articulate, and scientifically accurate dinosaur toys. There hasn't been a good line since Kenner's Lost World: Jurassic Park. I'd find a way to get them as close to scale with one another as I could. I'd say convert feet to inches, but hell... some of those sauropod toys would be a hundred+ inches long, so that wouldn't work. |
Metal Gear Solid 3.75". My Vehicle would be of course Metal Gear Rex.
I would start with MGS1 Series 1 Wave 1 Solid Snake(w/Socom, Cardboard box, empty pack of cigs, FAMAS, Rocket Launcher) Infiltration Snake(comes diving gear, and depolyment pod, c4, Keycard) Otacon(labcoat, Mini Metal Gear Rex with Remote, Laptop Case, Locker) Revolver Ocelot (removable hand, colt x2) Vulcan Raven (Vulcan Cannon, Raven) Meryl (Variant is underwear version,) with Desert Eagle) Genome Solder 1 (Red Exclamation Accessory, SMG) Series 1 Wave 2 Grey fox w/sword(transparent variant) Final battle Snake(shirtless, comes with grey fox sword, sniper rifle, Ration) Sniper Wolf (sniper rifle and Wolf) Psycho Mantis (Mini PS1 Controller, books, and chairs) Liquid Snake (Master Miller Head, removable trenchcoat) Genome Soldier 2 (Question mark accessory, SMG) |

I think other lines for games in the 3.75 inch scale would be awesome. personally i would start up a Mass Effect line. Myabe even do a fan vote on which alternative shepard armor gets made. terminus, blood dragon, collector or cerberus. |
Trigun only because I've been watching this series.
|
I would fix Mattels DC 3 3/4 scale figures. They need serious help...
|
i agree with Tiberius.
If only DC had figures the quality of MU. Its such a shame DC lets itself be battered by its rival in both movie potential and 3.75 action figures :( which seems to be the most popular scale to collect across alot of lines in recent years! come on DC! sort is aaaaaatttt! |
I would develop 8'' remote controlled figures that work with a wifi transmitter controlled by xbox or ps3 controllers, a semi ai system with preworked patterns/moves. I would have 8 figures, 4 girls, 4 boys, only differences are skin, white, brown, yellow, black, different headsulpts for different races. They would semi resemble 3a heads but with implated hair, moving eyes and mouth, they'd come with tons of accessories so you could have different scenarios. Accessories would include a soccerball, basketball, guns with real shooting bullets, fighting gloves and gear, swords, ninja stars. I would price the first series between 800-1000/figure but the more that sells the cheaper I'd make the lines become to the point where accessory packs, online downloadable programs and features most free but some costing money, and have software updates for 1-2 years till a new model is made. The figures would be made of wood, metal and plastic to ensure long lasting playing time. I've seen the movie small soldiers so many times that I want it to be real! I just need a design team, enginers/designers and $$.

Transformers vs GI Joe.
Optimus transforms into a Mobat packed with Duke. Bumble Bee to Ram Cycle w/ Snake Eyes. Hound to Vamp w/ Flint. Megatron to Hisstank w/ CC. Starscream to Claw w/ Storm Shadow. Thundercracker to Thundertank w/ Zartan. FTW |

If I had a few more figures than six to develop, I would love to do Classic Battlestar Galactica. They haven't had DECENT figures since the 70s, and those characters need to be re-visited.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the Dinosaur idea, Crazy Jetty! LOVE! |
And I would also love to do a line of 3 3/4" civilians. Men, women, police, and "thugs" (ski mask kinda guy). The figures would have interchangeable heads with different color hair and accessories. With police and regular cars that can change out damaged parts.
Would be awesome for Dios! |
for us 90s kids/geeks, how about a line of mechwarrior toys that were from the computer game? well, they probably had something back then, but give them some articulation.
|
I'm going with Starblazers.
Wave one is Wildstar, Nova, Desslok, Venture, Avatar and Gamellon soldier. They each come packed with a piece of the bridge the mat for which can be printed from the website. The two vehicles are a Black Tiger fighter with Conroy and a Gamellon fighner with Gamellon pilot. The advertising features CGI footage of 2010 movie. Love the Mechwarrior idea. just so long as its not tyco this time. Favorite so far is the punctuation from the mgs line. Would love to see fixed 3.75 dc. Everytime I see DC news ...have you seen the ad for the Richard Gere movie where the guy dies and the dog goes to wait for him everyday at the train station? So yeah. Starblazers. |
Someone should develope a 3.75" called "Troop Builders".
The first wave could include S.W.A.T. Trooper, Ninja, Mobster, Street Thug, Fire Fighter, and Terrorist. Street Thug and Mobster could have multiple colored clothes varriants, and each fig could come with alternate/ interchangeable heads and hands. Vehicles could include Police Cruiser and Bullet riddled Sedan. |

yeah that too, but exosquad is different from mechwarrior.
|
Mechwarrior/Battletech over Exosquad 100%. The Michael Stackpole novels are terrific. better than anything Star Wars since 1980. ...and he was the tent pole SW writer for years
|
I'd do an 80's tv show figure line, stuff like The A Team, The Dukes of Hazzard and Knight Rider.

I'd buy Mego Style A Team guys from Biff Bang Pow. 3.75" figs would be cool too, just not from Jazzwares. |
