Favortie Macross Series?

I have to go with Plus for my top spot as it was my first exposure to the Macross world as well as having a more mature and serious tone. Also has my favorite mecha out of all the Macross shows and art work (yes I love those early 90's designs :p).

DYRL is a close second though in conjunction with the original TV series.

This is suppose to have a poll :(

definitely mac plus. the yf-19 is my favorite valk of all time. great story, very accessible, incredible animation...the soundtrack is beautiful. what's not to love?

animation and story - macross frontier
music - macross 7

Plus is awesome and the most mature version I've seen yet. I prefer the movie version to the OVA though.

Just started watching Macross 7, it's certainly different but not too bad. So far the story is interesting. I have watched some of the later episodes, but years back, so starting from the beginning now, it feels different. I like it so far, I don't hate it. I'm a fan of Jrock so the extensive use of music doesn't bother me. The fact that it's usually the same songs over and over again does though.

Zero was good but the most confusing. Need to rewatch episodes 4 & 5 again. I LOVE THE VF-0 design. The VF-1 is a classic, the 19 and 21/22 are awesome, 11 is sexy, VF-4 =WIN, but the VF-0, man, as ancient as that thing looks I love it. Reminds me of the bridge between the gap; between the F-14 and VF-1. Some say it looks more advanced than the VF-1. I disagree. It isn't as sleek, has an airframe with much, much more drag with bulges all over the place, et al. Yet I love it. Sure the VF-1 may be able to out accelerate it and run rings around it, but it looks great.

The ending of Zero seemed open to interpretation. I'd like to know what the hell actually happened though.

SDF and DYRL? are great. I think the deaths had more of an impact in TV series, but the ending seemed more pivotal and meaningful in DYRL?. I grew to like the Skull squadron schemes of Hikaru and Max's valks too. I didn't like the idea of Hikaru having a Skull valk with red trim as a child, but now I love it.

Macross II was a bad reinterpretation of DYRL? but it was mecha porn all throughout, with great music and AWESOME action scenes. The VF-2SS is downright sexy, with a weird, yet cool fighter mode. So all in all, bad story but awesome visuals. Enjoyable but don't expect much substance.
