family members that collect
Ok, so heres something that I dont really see posted here in the forums very often. Its the discussion of family members that also have the collecting bug in them. Not specifically toys, but anything. I probably got it from my dad or vice versa perhaps. He has been a trekkie since it came on the air back when he was in high school. A Jock and a Trekkie. Imagine that. Anyways, on top of his electronic starships, me and him amassed a massive collection of those Maisto die cast planes that wal mart sells. Its taken us close to ten years, but were on our last 3 or so to finish the set. Ebay wants big bucks for the ones we dont have. Hes also into micro machines. I dont get that one.

I am the first and only collector (of any kind, be it stamps, coins, or toys) in the family. I don't know whether my kids will take it up, but I sure hope they do. :)

my roommmate and longtime best friend collects comics (which I read and used to collect) and he once collected classic Star Wars - he had a two bedroom apartment with every surface covered in SW figs- over 200 Stormtroopers alone!
But times changed and he ended up giving all his SW figs to friends that collected just to avoid that $300 a month storage fee when he moved apartments and had no room. He's cool like that. He also collected Marvel cards in the 90's an still has them all in binders and he gets all the Heroclix- keeping them in plastic bins, seperated by teams. Just for shits, we assembled all the Secret Wars characters agsint my MU Galactus and the scale there is almost perfect! Wish I'd had a camera for that (I do now though!) but it was just a lark one night. I also build model starships (Star Trek and Star Wars in 2500th scale mostly)- even mastering a kit for sale on rare occasion, so I know people online worldwide that collect and build models. As to the Jock/Trekkie thing, I now a ton of trekkies that are mlitary guys- everyon wishes they served Starfleet instead! LOL! Me too! |

EDIT: Come to think of it, my dad collects Minnesota Vikings and duck-themed stuff. My mom used to collect rabbit-themed stuff (stuffed animals, figurines, etc), but stopped when it became too much to deal with (dusting, storage, etc). Same thing with my grandmother and ceramic angels.
I guess you could say I'm a third generation collector. :) |
I think my grandpa collects scientific american magazine. Or he just refuses to throw anything away...He has every issues from 1987 until now.
|
My Grandma's apparently a hoarder (probably where I got some of that from), but not so much with figures or anything. For her it's like clothes, ornaments, etc, but I guess when it comes down to it, the subject matter is just a small piece of the puzzle.

If anything, I'm gonna see if I can get some pictures because so far, only legend has spoke of this particular hoard. Quote:
