MU Blackbolt custom

I've been looking for a good base for an MU Blackbolt for a while. I've had a spare Falcon for a few months. Anywhoo, I sculpted and sanded his head for a hooded/coweled look, added his tuning fork head piece, and sculpted a glove onto his right arm. I clipped the wings and plan on painting them silver. Here is the first coat. Enjoy!

Jason Abbadon 01-21-2012 11:51 PM

Looking sweet- I have one half done that mu lazy ass has not finished- useing a STeve Rogers buck with a red Guardian head.

Man, I need to finish that. I'll be looking at yours as inspiration- I'm digging the wings!
I was wondering how to make BB's odd accordian wings..
Cool! You'll have an Illumaniti as soon as Professor X comes out!

usagent27 01-22-2012 11:11 AM

What kind of paint are you using?

scottmurdock 01-22-2012 12:58 PM

@Jason - thanks, I was thinking about using Guardian as well, he's just so hard to find. I'm looking forward to seeing your Blackbolt.

@USAgent - just a basic Testors acryl set, black and silver. I also found some peach/skin colored stuff at the crafts section at WalMart. I always finish my customs off with a matte spray as protection and it helps blend and smooth out the paint.

Here's a small update. It's gonna take 4 or 5 coats of silver to get the wings to look opaque.

kostej 01-22-2012 01:11 PM

Cool custom, those wings are great idea. What matte spray do you use to finish the figure?

Shawn Woodbeck 01-22-2012 01:27 PM

Lookin good. Can't wait to see it finished.

the reason i ask is because like you i used that testors Acryl paint. it's crap. Seriously... try some Citadel paints. they make a world of difference! i got mine at local comic shop but they are online.

yourfacehere 01-22-2012 02:14 PM

Cool, seriously.
Can't wait to see it finished, you plan on doing a wash?

scottmurdock 01-22-2012 10:14 PM

Finally done! For your viewing pleasure...The Illuminati (see if you can spot the stand-in), Blackbolt with his custom brethren, and a solo shot.

Thanks for the kind words everyone! That Conan clip is all kinds of WIN.
@kostej - Krylon Preserve It! Matte spray.
@USAgent - I'll keep an eye out for Citadel for future projects.
@face - like a Berkeley hippie, I'm not good at washing:)

Tiberius 01-22-2012 10:19 PM

Hahahaha Deadpool in the Illuminati....we are SCREWED.

That testors' stuff is meant for airbrushes- it's thin on purpose.

Hey, those 'painters' marker pens from the big w(Walmart)work pretty good for me...er.... I mean, I heard they work really good for making your own customs...well that's what I heard anyway...

thechris 02-03-2012 10:04 PM

Superb job, man.

scottmurdock 02-03-2012 10:46 PM

Thanks, chris!

Jason Abbadon 02-03-2012 11:07 PM

It turned out really great- definitely the one to look at when I get around to my own.
Love the silver- is that Testors enamel? I know you said acrylic, but I've never seen them make silver in acrylic....that would be great for making metalized colors.

Now you just need a Vulcan for him to fight!

Sharpie makes an amazing red paint marker that works great- I detailed by Black Knight with it and it dried great.

scottmurdock 02-04-2012 01:54 PM

Thanks Jason. Yeah a custom Vulcan would rule. I'll have to try to think up a recipe and squeeze it in while I work on Deathlok, Dum Dum, Rogue, Ares, Sleepwalker, Terrax, Leader, and Zemo (which I'm totally copying from USAgent's design).

FinnTheHuman 02-04-2012 02:49 PM

That turned out great!

I was thinking of a SW Starkiller head for Vulcan...looks right.
No clue on the body yet.
Use an X-23 body- reverse the torso and sand off the breasts, add the neck rags from a ROC Storm Shadow (the shirtless version) and build it up from there.

I'm doing the same body recipie for The Ghost, but useing a modified Tron head for him.
