Mortal Kombat TF2012

Toy Fair 2012 - Mortal Kombat by Jazzwares

Optimatron 02-12-2012 10:21 AM

I really hope that other company was serious about making MK figures, because Jazfailures' offerings are rubbish.

15 points of articulation for Shao Kahn and Goro? And that's supposed to be impressive? I can find more points of articulation on toy biz figures from the '90s.

The paint apps, articulation, and quality of these figures leave much to be desired.

D00MTR0N 02-12-2012 10:30 AM

more like flawless failure.

Jmacq1 02-12-2012 10:31 AM

Depends on if the figure is 3 3/4" or 6." Further, it depends on if these are really meant to be played-with action figures or if they're just supposed to be "look pretty on display" figures like much of Sideshow and NECAs stuff.

15 points of articulation for a 3 3/4" figure is halfway decent.

On a 6 inch figure? Not so much. Though Toy Biz is really a false comparison, because NOBODY was articulating their figures like Toy Biz back in the day.

In other words you can't hold Toy Biz up as an "industry standard" when nobody else in the industry was following it.

Anyway, Jazwares has to fix their QC before they can worry about adding more joints.

D00MTR0N 02-12-2012 10:34 AM

yeah the paint apps on the 4" figures I saw at retail were pathetic.

M3T4L V1KING 02-12-2012 11:01 AM

You'd REALLY think Goro would have more articulation than the average MK figure...

Nightrain 02-12-2012 11:06 AM

lol what a cheap display. Did they rush that together at the last minute?

king kahn 02-12-2012 01:07 PM

I have seen the toys in stores and they are some of the cheapest looking toys in the isle.

If the paint apps are decent on a figure than the sculpt is horrible. If both are good the figure is actually broken in the package.

How is it that not one company can do good Mortal Kombat figures?

xhavoc86 02-12-2012 01:11 PM

ok fine, im still excited for this line, but i do wish syco produces a new higher quality line...

ice sword!!! lol

proteus 02-12-2012 01:42 PM

Quality aside,i'll still take Jax+Goro, along with Kano they are my favourite MK characters,iv waited forever for them, worst case scenario i can use them for custom fodder for the chaos army im working on!!!

MegaPrime33 02-12-2012 02:00 PM

Are people really still interested in MK? I mean I feel like we haven't had a good version of the game in awhile, so why come out with new figures?

The last game was highly acclaimed by just about everyone.

proteus 02-12-2012 02:12 PM

It also won fighting game of the year, beating out Marvel vs Capcom 3/Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom3, King of Fighters, etc. in the VGA's/Gametrailers/GoldenJoystick/etc. It was generally considered the best fighter in every gaming outlet.

Greylight 02-12-2012 03:08 PM

Anyone else notice the "DO NOT PHOTOGRAPH" sign in front of the Klassic ninja multi-pack? :p

And yeah, the 2011 game was fantastic. They are even releasing a game of the year edition with all of the DLC on disc. I would love to have good, quality MK action figures, but these aren't quite cutting it.

MegaPrime33 02-12-2012 03:23 PM

Shows what I know :o

Nightrain 02-12-2012 03:25 PM

On top of all the praise for the game, it's also a really deep property that IMO hasn't ever reached its full potential.

Lessee... The most recent game, as mentioned, won as best Fighter, and was on many critics top 10 lists for last year. The Mortal Kombat Legacy webisodes were among the top "full production" videos on Youtube. The catalyst video, "Mortal Kombat: Rebirth" was one of the all time highest viewed videos before Warner Bros had it removed, then it was allowed to be placed back on Youtube. Because of this, Warner Bros is interested in another season of MK: Legacy and greenlit a fresh new movie to be made by the same crew responsible for MK: Legacy, due out in 2013.... So yeah, I'd say MK is witnessing it's 2nd wind.

The 6in figures look horrible. Absolutely nothing to justify the $15 price tag. The 4in figures aren't so bad. The paint apps are on par wit some of the GI Joe toys I've seen lately (Saw Cobra Commander the other day with his eye painted on his brow!). Sad thing is, $9 for a 4in toy is ridiculous as far as I am concerned. $6 would be the most I'd spend. Especially when 90% are the exact same mold with different colors. It works in the early games, and it works for people who buy Transformers (Hello Seeker completists! I'm talking to you!!!), but for most people, it's a waste of money.

Now if Syco made a line of poorly articulated, but fantastically sculpted 8in figures for $15 to $24, I'd buy a few of those (Raiden, Sub-Zero, and Scorpion from the reboot would be a must buy. Reptile - depends on costume and pose... loved the costume in Shaolin Monks). I'd go as high as $30 for an amazing Shao Kahn, Goro, or Liu Kang's Dragon form. I'd even suffer a Mattel-type subscription service if it meant getting good quality.

lanternjv37 02-12-2012 05:46 PM

are the through the line series 6" or 3.75"?

plus im excited for a 6" shao khan and goro!!!

Talisman 02-12-2012 06:14 PM

Last pic, off to the right, just out of frame. That's what I want to see more of...

Enigma2K2 02-12-2012 06:19 PM

Goro?!?!? I wanted Sheeva, d******!!!

And maybe they should cut back on all the ninja pallet swaps...

KshatriyaNZ666 02-12-2012 07:35 PM

All I have are the 6" & 4" Sub-Zero figs (2011 versions) (with eyes painted white), which makes only 2 figs I own and will ever get from this line. I really would like to pick up a Sonya Blade, but Jazwares' amazing face sculpting work does not make me the least bit hopeful for a decent looking figure of her. If somehow she turns out OK, my only other requirement is either having a removable dog tag or no dog tags at all - just an odd preference I have.

In the meantime, I'll be patiently waiting for Syco's attempt.

D00MTR0N 02-12-2012 07:47 PM

2 reasons mortal kombat will be forever cool:

SUB ZERO!
SCORPION!

fallen69lee04 02-13-2012 02:45 AM

some of these look lame.

so far i have all the 4 inch figures wich look fair ok, but they could do way better if they only knew what the fans really want in these figures.

trebleshot 02-13-2012 12:05 PM

I hope Jazwares gets better. That's about all I have left to say about that.
