Rainbow Brite Returns

New Rainbow Brite Toys Coming From Playmates

dark69 11-20-2009 11:30 AM

looks cute my kid sis will love them

trebleshot 11-20-2009 11:37 AM

Huh. Rainbow Brite goes BRATZ. Go figure.

It's great to see another 80's property back on shelves. It's a shame they have to conform to today's "fashion" style of dolls. If they had retained at least a little of the style of the old dolls, they would be even more unique in today's market. Seems to me that would be an advantage.

In before they 'reimagine' the franchise for an awful Hollywood movie, replace the horse with a Ford Mustang or a Chevy, and cast a talentless chick who's more plastic than the toys.

How are those even remotely close to Bratz?

My sister had those originals back in the day, it is good to hear it being used, maybe they can find a way to do reissues or something if possible.

Obviously, it's not a literal comparison - these aren't nearly as stylized as Bratz or MyScene. But the new Rainbow Brite toys are taking cues from those lines by making the characters appear older and more fashionable. I guess the Color Kids will need to be renamed the Color Tweens.

I wish the design team would have taken more inspiration from Darby (of My Friends Tigger and Pooh) instead.

(...You know, it's amazing the conversations that I find myself involved in after I became a father....)
