So whats the background of ThunderPunch Heman

What's up with Thunder Punch He Man? All I know is that the upcoming motuc version looks cool and that there was one made for the original line. However I'm feeling LAZY, REALLY LAZY and don't feel like scouring the internetz. So what's up with this guy? Also does the Motuc version have a punching gimmick?

thechris 03-17-2012 01:59 PM

The original version had a back pack where you could put those round red caps into. When you swung his waist, it set off one of the caps and would let off a loud bang. It was more or less a glorified capgun. This homage to the classic figure does not have the action feature. It just has a little red cap that doesn't work, as far as I know. It also has a yellow energy trail that fits over He-man's right fist. This is also one of the first figures with a closed fist which has been receiving mixed reactions. Overall, it's a nice looking figure and this is apparently what he wore to the Ultimate Battleground, so it's neat to have, anyway. I believe the Skeletor equivelant was Dragon Blast Skeletor which had a serpent backpack and it squirted water out of it's mouth. I have the vintage figure somewhere. It looked kind of cool in a weird way, but also a little goofy. Hope this helps.

i looked it up and i found out i have the original. since i inherited it from my cousin, i had no idea what it was supposed to do. Lol, i never watched the show or knew anything about He-man until i got older.

I imagine if you opened the backpack, it would be all crusty and disgusting depending on how much use it got. :)

bmorr 03-17-2012 03:14 PM

yeah its a gray gear box. Never understood what the hell it was for. "Now i know, and knowing's half the battle!"

Doubt it. I still haven't gotten the order I placed around 3 weeks before the one that I placed the day before you placed your order so it stands to reason that you'll get your order when I get my two orders.

Tiberius 03-17-2012 08:09 PM

Also...get Grizzlor yet?

Yeah, I've had him for a while. The only ones I was missing were Demo-man, Kobra Khan, Sorceress, Bubble Power She-Ra, Shadow Weaver and Fisto and all of them are now bought and on their way except Bubble Power She-Ra who is a pain in the butt to find at a good price! Got Demo-man in the order I placed the day before you placed your order. Sorceress and Fisto were placed a few weeks prior when they were first on the site. Shadow Weaver I had to pay a premium for since I'm sans subscription. So wish I got one now... In my experience, subscribed items arrive more than twice as fast as unsubscribed items. I got my Voltron stuff in 2 weeks. :)

Tiberius 03-17-2012 10:32 PM

I am still waiting for mine to show. I had to msg the guy asking if it was shipped seeing as he never marked it as shipped =/.

Thanks for the info man! What's the Ultimate Battleground? I bet it's only a matter of time before we see the Dragon Blast Skeletor in MOTUC. I don't mind a closed fist since it goes with the Thunder Punch theme.

That's cool that you got the figure. I watched some of the original motu cartoon but forgot about it. I was a fan of the New Adventures but forgot almost all of it.

In 2002 I watched the last toon but fell behind. I'm slowly watching it again on DVD. Impressed so far, and it only increased my desire for more motuc figures.

I think I saw it on Amazon a day ago

Tiberius 03-18-2012 08:05 PM

The quality on Netflix is terrible. Also my GF has Netflix and we checked on both Wii and Xbox and no He-Man...may be different between Canada and the USA.

I have it here.....but most shows are in HD, but that show is 30+ years old....

The 2002 series was excellent and highly underrated. I feel like it was cancelled too early. I just finished watching Season 1 Vol. 1 of the original FILMATION series and Season 1 Vol. 1 of She-Ra. They're both excellent and She-Ra is better than I remembered. I think at the time when I watched it as a child, I was too immature to appreciate it because it was the "girls" He-man but it's got a much darker theme and the stories were more in-depth and deep for what they were. It was a world of magic that was enslaved by Horde science. Awesome. :)

Haha, it comes from having almost zero toys as a kid. TV and drawing and imagination! When I got some second hand toys which were He-man, I treasured them like crazy (even if I did wreck 'em pretty bad, LOL) but it made me want to find out everything about the world. I was probably the most annoying kid to play toys with because I'd always be like, "No! That's Man-E-Faces, he's a good guy. He's on the good side, don't put him with Skeletor!!! That's not his weapon, that goes with Grizzlor!" LOL. Yeah, the DVDs... they were hard enough to find when they came out. Now some of the volumes are cheap and easy to find, but others are around $100. I'm glad I got them when I could. Free low res episodes on YouTube, though.

Not sure if they're available on Canadian Netflix. Cheapest place for MOTU FILMATION series is Amazon.ca. Sometimes 75% cheaper than eBay... Plays great with no grainy artifacts on my 1080p TV even though they're just standard DVDs.

Tiberius 03-18-2012 08:20 PM

Season Two at Futureshop was 22 bucks. That isn't bad IMO compared to the 70 they where asking for complete She-Ra..

thechris 03-18-2012 08:29 PM

Actually, just noticed both Season 1 and Season 2 complete series of Masters of the Universe on eBay for $20 each, cheap shipping. Only thing is that they aren't the awesome spine art collectible sets that were split into 4 volumes and you could put them together to make a cool mural of Castle Grayskull. It actually goes together with 2 volumes of New Adventures of He-man and 3 volumes of She-Ra and the first volume of the 2002 series Best Buy exclusive to make a giant mural of everything. :) Oh and you get 2 art cards with each boxset featuring art by people like Jim Lee and Bruce Timm of Batman the Animated Series and Justice League Unlimited fame. Yeah, apparently Bruce Timm used to draw for GI Joe, He-man and lots of other series. Paul Dini also worked on He-man and I think She-Ra. Buuut yeah, if you want, you can get all of He-man for around $50 after shipping which is financially better than spending damn near $160 for the special editions. Plus I think the new ones come with art cards, too.

There is a host of action figures from the 1980s that included the Cap action. Robo Cop and COPS N" CROOKS relied on the old cap action.
As a kid I owned Thunder Punch He-man he was pretty sweet. I never remember having the caps though just He-man.

Deefuzz 03-23-2012 10:30 AM

Just a He-Man figure with a different gimmick really.

He was my favorite growing up, just because I liked his design a little better. He had a different colored power sword, a different shield, his vest was red which really popped, and the insignia was chromed. So all in all I thought it was a nice looking update to the original.

This is the figure I have been wanting since the MOTUC line started (that and and updated Movie Skeletor) so I am very excited that we are getting it!

Tiberius 04-01-2012 09:03 PM

No idea if you guys have seen pictures, but if not, here ya go.

He looks really cool, the only MOTUC He Man I have so far is reissue He Man, and I've eyed this one and will probably buy it. Dig the translucent sword and the colors + vest look really cool.
