Talking about music for the season, I know not everybody likes every type of music, I am a metal-head m'self. I listen to Iced Earth a decent amount and one of their albums is 'Horror Show' and the album is all songs based on different horror classics literature or film (except for one song). The songs are based on The Wolf-man, The Omen, Jack the ripper, The Mummy, Jeckyl and Hyde, Creature from the Black Lagoon, Frankenstein, Dracula, The Phantom Opera Ghost, and a cover of Iron Maiden's Transylvania. |
SO I just finished Alien Isolation and that ending was
BULLSHIT!!! Not even a final monologue.
Overall, the game was not bad, but should have ended at three different times. Nevertheless, the two best moments are on
LV426 and inside the nest.
I'm not going to replay the game so I sold it off for $45.

woh, woh, woh.... That can't be true! Obi-wan said Luke's father was dead!

Anakin Skywalker... was seduced by the Dark Side of the Force. He ceased to be Anakin Skywalker and "became" Darth Vader. When that happened, the good man who was Anakin was destroyed. So what I told you was true... from a certain point of view.

Friday the 13th V - Wait, I thought Jason was gone for good, why is there another one? Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh hhhhhh, it isn't Jason. Unfortunately, unlike Halloween III, this movie feels unfocused and rushed. The writers clearly had no idea what they wanted to do with it, as it seems like they plan was to have Tommy actually be the killer and then they chickened out in the end to make it some half assed reveal from a background character with a reasoning thought up in seconds. That is just lame and this movie is lame. ON the positive side, it does have some good deaths in it, but whatever. I give it a 4/10 stars. Also, the Not-Jason Jason Mask is terrible looking. Oh yeah, and please, I really hope we never have another character that went to the Crispin Glover School of Dance.
Friday the 13th 6 - Okay, so now we have begun with the start of Super Ultra Zombie Jason, and this one is a pretty solid entry. There is a little bit much on the comedy side, but it does work with the movie instead of taking away from it. That and I love the line, "I've seen enough horror movies to know that a man wearing a mask is not one to be messed with." For the most part, the characters are well done outside of the random couple (which from what is discussed in the extras, they were forced into the movie just to up the kill count), but at least they have a good death scene. The only annoying this is watching this movie right after the previous entry and having a different actor for Tommy. That and the way it starts makes it feel like the fifth movie does not even exist. Overall, I give this one a 6/10 stars. It isn't as good as the fourth movie or the original, but it is definitely one of the best. |
Like eventually they show that Jason is a deadite or something because he's brought back by the Necronomicon. Basically they did this either as a joke/nod reference for Evil Dead fans or they seriously wanted to incorporate that series, then again this is also the movie that teases/previews the idea of Freddy vs Jason in a manner much less subtle than Predator 2's tease of an alien skull. Though the skull in Predator 2 was actually a last-minute nod to the comics which had been running through that year.
|
the Necronomicon is much older than Evil dead, the idea was created in a 1924 short story called The Hound by H.P Lovecraft. since then numerous authors have used the term to describe an all powerful evil book of the dead or anti-bible. The idea was so powerful and profound that since it's creation as a literary device many people have claimed that it is real, spurning many modern legends (including the ones Sam Rami alludes to in Evil Dead, such as written in blood, bound in flesh, and possessing intelligence) although Lovecraft insisted he created the idea of this book purely as a work of fiction. sometime, in the 70's I believe, someone claimed to have found the real book and translated it, I think you can still find a modern copy at Barns and noble. But basically it has, for the most part become a literary term commonly adopted by numerous authors to describe the source or collection of all evil.

I think he was referring to the fact that the Necronomicon in JGTH IS the Evil Dead Necronomicon.

Friday the 13th VII - This is such a weird movie. It has an interesting idea, what would it be like to see Jason take on a telekinetic, and yet, it does so little with it in terms of execution and plot. That just flat out ruins it as none of these characters are there to be anything more than canonfodder. Yes, that sounds weird, as most of the time, the characters are there to die, but at least the previous movies try to make you want to see one or two of them survive. Here, none of them are worth saving, even Tina as she is just a freaking idiot. It does have some great kill scenes though but I think even Jason was tired of it. I do love how much battle damage Jason was shown to have on both his mask and on his face, so that was nicely done. Nevertheless, I just don't give a crap about the characters, which is where this movie ultimately falls flat. Another thing that seems strange is how the name went back to Crystal Lake after being Forest Green for several years. Did they just decide to own up to it? And why would anyone want to still live there? Overall, I give it 4 points as a movie, but I'll give it one more point for its awesome music, so it gets a 5/10 stars.

open question: what horror movie/franchise deserves a toy line (or a better toy line), which characters would you include? and what style would you put it in? (Marvel legends, classic star wars, Movie maniacs, ect)
for me it would be a toss up between Halloween, done in 6" possible with great sculpts, with of course Michael, Loomis, Lori, the nurse, young Michael in clown costume, a couple of Victims (with Judith Myers grave stone accessory) and for an exclusive Michael without mask. the other would be Dusk till Dawn, 3.75" Marvel universe style articulated. with a Winnebago and Titty Twister play set. all main characters with Vampire variants where applicable, and some of the more memorable Vampires. |

Friday the 13th VIII Jason Takes Manhattan - or better yet, Jason Takes a Boat to Manhattan that is Sometimes Vancouver. Seriously, this movie is a mess. It takes over an hour to even get to Manhattan. The chronology is messed up as there is no way this movie could be 30 years later when there was 15 years after Jason died to when his mother got killed, 5 years for the events of the second through the fourth movies, ten years for the sixth, fifteen years for the seventh, and now this. That makes it at least 40 years. Jason has suddenly developed the ability to teleport. On the positive side, I can at least say this movie proves he does not have ADD since he has hundreds of people he can kill at his whim but only sticks to going after the main characters. Of course, he doesn't help then Renney seems to have her character shields on at all times since there were multiple occasions when Jason could have just killed her back on the boat. Finally, that ending is just flat out stupid. Why is NYC flooding their sewers with toxic waste each night? Is that part of a new "Get Rid of the Alligators" initiative? And how does this waste make Jason turn into a boy? That makes no sense. Now the movie does have some great moments in it, especially when it came to the scenes in Manhattan. I love the scene when Jason first emerges from the bay and there is a hockey mask sign. Also the death scenes are awesome, especially the one with the boxer. It was a cool idea to bring Jason to a big city, as I love everything about that, but this movie takes too damn long to get there and spends too short of a time there. At least the pay off is good for the most part. Unfortunately, most of the characters are just flat out stupid to be likable, assholes, or their acting is just really really awful. Some of the worst in the entire series. Overall, I give this movie a 4/10 as it does at least make a good ending point for those who find the next set of movies to be pure crap.

I could sit here and bag on part 8 for hours because it's a really bad movie, but this movie has two of my favorite death scenes in all of them...one being the boxer and two being the strangulation of (a very young) Kelly Hu's character in the disco. The way that Jason presses her into the ceiling above her, then unceremoniously dumps her on the floor has always struck me as impressive. Also...New York wasn't flushing out alligators at night, they were making ninja turtles.... =P Also...as a huge fan, I really feel that that series ending point takes place in part 6, as it finally finishes up the Tommy Jarvis saga. After that, the series becomes a bunch of individual tales, with many of them coming off with the sensibility of Ernest P. Warrell movies (Jason goes to New York! Jason goes to space! Jason goes to Hell!) While "The Final Friday" wasn't a terrible movie, they made the same mistake with it that they did with Michael Myers, they tried to turn Jason into some supernatural being with powers that went far beyond him being a zombie with a single goal in mind. I don't consider Freddy Vs. Jason to be a part of the series either really. It's more of a fun piece of fan fiction if anything. The reboot/remake was really well done for the most part. My only issue was that the director seemed more intent on appeasing the "fans" of the franchise with the stereotypical stuff of what SHOULD be in a Friday the 13th film than actually giving us something scary. There was more horny asshole teenagers, T&A, and drug use in that film than there was in the mighty Part 5, (which hit new lows in the series with that stuff and was actually directed by a guy who started his career in porn,) and it was to the point where it became shlock. Listening to the fans and following the mold doesn't always a good movie make. Sometimes you end up with something awesome that hits the geek spot, but sometimes you end up with "Snakes on a Plane." I could go more into it, but I'd like to see your review on it to see if you agree with some of the points I have about it. =) |

As for what toy line I'd love to see done or brought back with a horror theme, I would really like to see the Puppet Master figures that were done by Full Moon Toys to be redone, only by a company like Mezco, or NECA, since they are now dipping into making figures with actual clothing. The Full Moon Toys versions were really nifty, and I would love to see how they would turn out with NECA or Mezco's craftsmanship and attention to detail at the helm. It would be awesome too if they managed to get them all on a 1/1 scale with a full range of articulation! |
I hope, and have to imagine, that with their "ultimate" figures they'll get to Jason. They're launching Freddy this month and Leatherface has been confirmed for early next year, so Jason seems like the obvious next choice to me. I think they are doing Leatherface first because it's the film's 40th anniversary this year. I actually hope they don't get around to doing an "ultimate" Alien just because we already got Big Chap back in February and there's little room for improvement on the figure itself, but Jason is due some special treatment.

Ok I have to make a list. No order here just listing a few of my favs. I probably own more horror movies than comics & figures combined.
Demon Knight Feast Tremors Freddy vs Jason Dawn of the Dead (Both original & remake) Zombie Army of Darkness Jack Brooks Monster Slayer Puppet Master Killer Klowns From Outer Space Dog Soldiers Hellraiser 2 Yeah I could go on. |
Army of Darkness but no Evil Dead 2? Evil Dead 2 was a sublime fusion of horror and comedy, and while I love AoD there was definitely more comedy than horror in that movie.

@IcantBseriouS
Dog Soldiers was awesome...it's up there in my top five. Event Horizon (horror and science fiction can't be beat) The Thing (same reason as above - Carpenter's blood test scene makes me smile every time I think of it - I'm smiling now) Dog Soldiers (the terror mixed with realistic humor that you find in everyday life made this movie very special for me - when my GF and I watched it the first time, we watched again right after for a second viewing) The Shinning Salem's Lot (loved the Nosferatu style vampire in this movie - the scene where he rises from floor still gives me chills - and who doesn't love some old school David Soul of Starsky and Hutch fame) |
Jason Goes to Hell - Just like its title, this movie can go straight to Hell. It absolutely sucks. There is absolutely no character development. Hell, the movie doesn't even really have an ending as we don't even really see the remaining characters once Jason is gone beyond them walking away in the background. The deaths are bland and dumb. There is nothing creative to be had. Suddenly Jason has a sister and only his bloodline can kill him for good? I think I have heard this plot before. Jason himself looks like a mess. They couldn't even get his mask right. Also, now it is suddenly only twenty years after the events of the original movie? WTF? Who wrote this thing? Did they not pay attention to anything before it? Oh, and for a house that has been left to rot for the last (at least 20) years, it sure is hell looks to be in such great shape. I won't even bother getting into the concept of Jason having the ability to transfer bodies now as that makes absolutely no sense. Add on top the pointless characters like Duke and you have one stupid dumb ass movie that was made by someone who had no idea how to even make a horror film. THe previous entries might not have been the greatest pieces of cinematic history, but at least they felt like an attempt was made to make them entertaining. Here, there is nothing except, "HEY, LOOK, IT IS A JASON MOVIE, GIVE YOUR MONEY!!" all around it. I give this piece of **** a very high dishonorable 1/10 stars. Not only that, but it is also one of the worst movies ever made. Lastly, you know that not even the movie studios care about this movie when every movie in the entire box set has bonus feature documentaries on it, even Jason X, EXCEPT this one.
Jasonator X - How do you know you have no ideas for a long running horror series anymore? You bring the main killer into outer space, that is how. The only positives I can give this movie are for the cool death scenes and that it was at least better than the previous movie. Other than that, this movie sucks ass and gets 2/10 stars from me. Freddy vs Jason - Normally I do not think crossover movies work, but in this case, it does. In fact, I would say this is the best crossover movie to date. It is fun, it has a lot of great death scenes, and some really cool action scenes. Funny enough, this movie was my introduction to both the Freddy and Jason characters. It does have a lot of issues, such as it's hokey plot, the fact that they completely jacked up Jason's look (he is not supposed to have a left eye), and Jason is suddenly afraid of water. The fight scenes between the duo is down right awesome and brutal though. Robert Englund is definitely at his finest here, but I don't really get why they did not have Kane return as Jason. Sadly, the character development is what your are expected, but at least it is vastly superior to the development found in the last two Friday movies. Overall, I give it a 7/10 stars. |
Evil Dead 1&2 are amazing. I just saw AOD first when I was younger so it just kinda ranks higher to me. Yeah I'm a weirdo.
