That would be awesome, right up until they drop a helicarrior on them to kill them both.....

I'm still sitting on my pet theory the Void was really just the Chaos King incognito, trolling Earth. And he got sent out of existence or whatever during Chaos War, but that event sucked balls so it doesnt really matter anyways.

Greenskar 06-02-2012 12:54 PM

I'm sitting on my pet theory that Marvel realizes the Sentry was the worst character idea they've had in years and that he needs to remain dead more than Bucky, Uncle Ben and Batman's parents ever needed to.

bmorr 06-02-2012 01:17 PM

Yeah i agree with you there. Its kinda insulting to previous writers/continuity when they tried to shove him into classic marvel history. That, and showing everyone that a Superman type character doesn't really fit in the marvel universe. Well, Gladiator does.

Jackieboy 06-03-2012 05:44 AM

come on guys,he was not all that bad.okay that stunt marvel tried to pull was silly i agree, but despite it all,i did enjoy a lot of his stories.in the grand scheme of things new character's will always emerge in comics.Hyperion was another superman clone(apparently).

I liked him fairly well, even if I preferred him in his original series, but it was obvious they didn't know what to do with him anymore. They spent so much effort establishing how tough and unkillable he was he became more of a plot device than anything, something they had to write around in every story, instead of a character that could ever grow or really experience things.

bmorr 06-03-2012 07:55 AM

yeah buy wasnt hyperion part of his own separate universe with the other justice league knockoffs?

it seems to me that writers at marvel are afraid to take risk's.
i think he came from the microverse, but he battled the avengers a few times.

Greenskar 06-03-2012 10:33 AM

I found nothing of interest in the Sentry character at all. The worst part about him was the stupid Power of a million exploding suns nonsense. What, did Marvel decide since there was already a character named "Super Nova"-who's power was unrelated to the actual cataclysmic event- that they needed to take liberties with the slogan and convince us the power of one exploding sun was insufficient?

And before any of you try to approach me with some rebuttal that attempts to convince the masses that "the power of a million exploding suns" isn't his real power, its just hyperbole to tell us he's very powerful, I raise you that it's not only hyperbole of how ridiculously over powered and omnipotent he was, but actual heroes and supporting characters in stories like WWH and New Avengers actually referred to his power discharge as, "he's releasing the power of a million exploding suns!" like it was not only common knowledge, but no big deal.

Iceman 06-03-2012 11:17 AM

Yeah, Sentry was just too overpowered. Having very few crazy powerful characters is part of what sets Marvel apart from DC.

if marvel say the guy has the power of a million exploding suns, that's on their shoulder's to go and prove it,all i know is that i enjoy reading stories he has been involved in.i guess when it comes to comics the moral of the story here is that you can please some people sometimes, but you cant please all the people all of the time, peace :)

That's the problem. Marvel didn't validate that power...ever. Of course you'll never please everyone, with anything for that matter, but you can measure a ratio of those who liked something versus those who didn't. Through that logic, the various polls and threads on the topic of the Sentry character have revealed that those who actually like him are definitely in the minority.

Does that mean I think you shouldn't like him as a result? No not at all. However, it does make me believe that since so many seem to share the opinion that he was unreasonably overpowered and rather uninteresting as an individual character with very few if any redeeming qualities, that perhaps he would have been better off as simply this Void personification of his evil half as a permanent villain and abandon his Sentry- continuity altering insult to years of story telling- Hero character.

From what I remember in his solo series, it was actually suggested that he may have been a Beyonder type entity from an alternate universe that found it's way into Robert's body through that serum that gave him that lame power I've chastised enough already. If that was truly what was intended...I'd prefer they built more off of that and explored that aspect further. Just my take.

rodimus15 06-03-2012 06:43 PM

So how about that AvX? Anything new this week? AvX #5 comes out next week right?

bmorr 06-03-2012 07:00 PM

avx has been kinda slow this week lol.

Greenskar 06-03-2012 07:02 PM

But #5 does drop this Wednesday.

bmorr 06-03-2012 07:17 PM

Lol, you're not in the minority because I hate him. That would make it just me against whoever else likes him. I visit a lot of comic boards that have discussed him and the polls are never in his favor for those who like him.

But anyway we've beat the sentry topic to death already in a thread that has nothing to do with him. Feel free to PM me or start a thread on him if you would like to continue discussing him.

Otherwise, my favorite character is Iron Man.

Is anyone reading the Avengers academy tie-in's to AvX, and if so how are they going so far? I've never been interested in the series but I was curious to know if anything interesting is happening there for this event worth discussing.

It's actually worth picking up, ties in better than Avengers itself IMO, sold out too.

bmorr 06-04-2012 02:33 PM

Avengers Academy is an underrated comic, it introduces new characters that I actually find interesting.

Sebastian Shaw is in it too so it will be interesting how his character develops, from the amnesia he has. You may want to see if they still have it to throw in your box. I had to hit up other LCS's to find it. I believe the latest one comes out this Wednesday too.

bmorr 06-04-2012 02:39 PM
