My turn to share some customs. As a lot of you know I have vowed to have a completed Spiderverse. Hasbro`s recent offerings have been poor so I have been making my own. After seeing the new ML Spiderman 2099 I had to make one ASAP..

So Spiderman 2099 (which is for me the rest are orders.

Universe`s order is finally complete with the last addition to Hulk Warbound (World War Hulk) Meik

Can't wait to get him in my hands and have him join my collection. Thanks Pilkster!

That's an awesome meik pilk and universe! We need more war bound, and would love a Cieara the old strong! I also could argue they TMNT line is compatible with our 4" stuff and out of the shadows wasn't a bad movie.

you only need to go back through the old 3.75" thread to see where the problem lies, even back before universe was conceived legends was getting pretty much the same standard as they get today, the only thing that has changed is packaging, now you assume our line is doing well regardless,i disagree because if our line was making the money you think it does then the quality would be retained,we would have seen proper waves for recent marvel movies but instead the 6" line gets them,we have gone through several rebrands, now we are attached to "legends".again if our line was as popular it would retain its own name.you dont need to be a fly on the wall to see what is going on.

No I was agreeing with you that the 6" figures are a much better value, especially when they are the SAME price at discount stores.
As for the sales/profits it's impossible to say without looking at the data which hasbro does not make public. I will say I've seen mass amounts of 6" figures at DEEP clearance prices or that have been sitting a long time, which simple economics tells you that the supply exceeds the demand when the price goes down (typically).

7. That TMNT cockroach turtle four armed guy is cool. Nice job (I'm guessing) Pilk but ZERO idea as to what the he'll that character is about. I'm sure Uni will take some amazing shots of him though. His Dairy Queen is probably the busiest intergalactic timeline variable restaurant in the known toy verse.

I'm not defecting, just don't get the same kick out of the 6"... Wish I did but I don't. Not sure about the barn animals lol but he did have an attractive woman with him in one of those slides.

As for meik, you should either read the planet hulk storyline or sit down with your son and watch the planet hulk cartoon movie, it's pretty good!

anyone but me really bummed that the 4" offerings were basically all "new" marvel?

bmorr 07-24-2016 02:42 PM

also, i have yet to jump ship. dwight can shove it with his 6" agenda.

Yeah, I originally thought when I started collecting that I was gonna get into 6 inch and stuff because basically every reviewer said that 6 inch was better than 3 3/4 inch. So, I got my hands on some 6 inchers, and...

They're JUST okay. I mean, I liked the ones I got, but ultimately, I feel like I get more out of the 3 3/4 inch scale. I admitably haven't been completely around the bend(though I'll be close once I get that TDKR Blue Batman and Black series 6 inch Jango Fett), but the only larger line I really LOVE collecting is Bionicle.

I don't know if bummed is the word I would use. I feel conditioned not expect much.

I'm not done with the line and I'm never going 6 inch.

Considering Marvel's relationship with Fox, it was pretty much a guarantee that no Deadpool figures were coming.

I got a 6" movie masters dark knight batman a few years back and that opened the door for me buying an occasional one. But I look at that ab crunch joint and how bad the cuts break up the sculpt and that makes them look funny to me.

Just watched the panel (action figure pics on YouTube) and Jesse falcon presented all of the 3.75" stuff and Dwight stall did all the 6" stuff. Since Dwight was talking about dark Phoenix and Monica rambeau and Mary Jane I'm assuming they are 6".
Also it was nice to see they put Jesse falcon in charge of the 4" stuff...who seems to actually give a $hit about the line, he mentioned several times about the ab crunches being back in the 4" stuff.
They also mentioned vehicules for the 4" line in the Q&A... And right before they did an intro for the GOTG 2 packs the Milano flew by:

After the 2.5" scale and vehicles failed miserably Fingers crossed we get vehicles back in our scale.

Well not all, Magneto is getting the '90s treatment but it looks so good.

I kind of prefer that they are using his modern design because of the Superior Foes of Spider-Man series, it's the look he had when he defeated the Punisher in one blow while riding his Shocker-Mobile (I don't think it has a real name but I'm using it)!

I haven't been saying everything's great, I've been saying I see that Hasbro is trying new things. What you call 'quality drops' I call expanding on the roster of sculpts
What 'new things' are they trying? Expanding the roster of sculpts? Has the number of sculpts or individual tooling gone up, stayed the same, or reduced? And couldn't the cost balancing be due to someone taking over the Marvel division and cutting the budget for 4 inch to increase the budget of 6 inch?

Quote:

and yes, cutting corners to balance budgets for bigger pushes later.
Balance budgets for a bigger push for this line, or their favoured line? It's been what, 3 years?, since they dumped MU for Infinite and now Legends brand. When do you think this push will happen, and what form do you hypothetically think it might take?

I agree there has been fluctuating artic, and that some reduced artic for some figures needen't be a bad thing. But I don't think they've balanced this well at all. Vulture, Spidey, Black Cat - all on limited artic bucks? Emma Frost with good artic? Doesn't really make sense.

Quote:

Would you call that a decline or would you call that an improvement? I'd say improvement. Sculpting detail has gone up. Variety is better. Durability is top-notch, though QC is still an occasional issue. And they're finding ways to balance the articulation for more dynamic poses.
Considering plastic quality also went down, and accessories have noticeably reduced, all with a concurrent price hike - it's hard just to say 'improvement'.

Quote:

Compare the first Ms. Marvel figures to the Captain Marvel figure. Outside of wrist articulation, which power effects from that first one will cover up anyway, the new one is better detailed and has a more vibrant pose capability. Granted at least one form of waist articulation would have been nice, though the original figure had too much articulation in the waist. The original's arms couldn't really do much in the way of vibrant poses either with how limited her arms were.
Well, I like the original Marvel's more, and they also came with accessories and file cards for less money. I didn't mind the new Captain Marvel figure, but there isn't any real reason MU doesn't get the same accessories that Legends get. Why didn't Captain Marvel come with both heads, rather than force people to double dip for another figure?

Quote:

Heck, even comparing the two vision figures. The newer one seems superior to me.
I think I've said it here elsewhere, but apart from the 'stumpy' buck that figure was great. Paints were beautiful on it. I much prefer it to the new one. However, if the new one had the old paint scheme I might not feel that way. But again - paints are something they seem to have simplified for MU, and again, the Legends version got better paints.

Quote:

But I still don't get how hard it is to say:
"Hey hasbro, please bring back wrist articulation, and ab-crunch or waist swivel and thank you for giving more women characters swivel arms finally." As opposed to saying "Hey hasbro, you're ruining and deliberately killing this line because you hate us! Your employees are smurfs and I'm going to send you obscene and nasty messages until you cave into my demands."
But nobody says "I'm going to send you obscene and nasty messages until you cave into my demands" until you reconstruct their statements.

How about this: "Hey Hasbro, ever since you put a guy in charge of the Marvel division who has openly dismissed the 4 inch line you seem to have redirected all resources into the 6 inch line and left the 4 inch to make do with scraps. Could you not split the budgets for the lines according to each's profit margin?" (which would DESTROY Legends).

Quote:

Do you see the difference? Which one will actually get you what you want to buy as a consumer and which one will get you blatantly ignored?
Neither will get you anything. As I said before: Hasbro is a business, not kindergarten teachers picking which kids get ice-cream.

Quote:

One points out the problems, and helps them along, the other shows you as a spoiled child throwing a tantrum and trying to harass them or rile up harassment by others to throw insults at them too.
"Spoiled child... tantrum... harass..." you just can't stop with the shaming language can you? I shouldn't be surprised. You're trying to demonise the people in order to dismiss what they say. Nobody is throwing a tantrum, and valid criticisms are not harassment on open platforms or forums where those criticisms are meant to be aired. And no, when someone puts money into a product line, and watches that line begin to cut back in quality white seeing the price jump, and has that decision passed off as an economic one from someone who doesn't like the line, yet the line they do like maintains high quality and high value for money - something stinks. Pointing this out is not acting like a 'spoiled child'. If Legends makes 10% profit on each figure, and MU makes 50% profit on each figure - Dwight can still just claim the Legends line (now an umbrella) is making 30% profit on each figure. He can continue to squeeze MU and push the profits into Legends - which is what he clearly always wanted to do.

Quote:

What has Hasbro genuinely done to deserve treatment like that except try to give us figures of characters we love in the scale we love? Even Mattel doesn't get this kind of vitriol and the way they did figures was so 90s it hurt. V-Cut female figures for their legs. No elbows at all for Harley Quinn, and worse.
They became a business that sold products and took people's money, thus opening themselves up to both criticism and praise for whatever products or marketing choices they may make? Mattel also got plenty of flack. The company name is practically a byword for an eyeroll from collectors. I'm glad Hasbro made the line and are continuing to make it. There are a lot of little pleasant suprprises upcoming and more to come I'm sure. But when you look at their output: Legends, Star Wars, MU, Joe - it's becomes pretty clear that the line that has taken the biggest belt-tightening battering is MU, and that (in my opinion) is down to Dwight, not that I will ever 'harass', 'insult', or personally attack him for it - just his motives and or choices. The thing is, you seem to want to make what amounts to gripes and moans and whines about the line into some kind of rage-filled hate-fest a step away from a horrific attack, and it just isn't. I don't know what it is you see, but I just see some - mostly justified - collector grumbles, not the anti Hasbro hate forum you seem to refer to. I'll summarise: "Thank you Hasbro for making a great line, and continuing to make a great line. However, I question putting someone in charge of the Marvel line that has openly dismissed the 4 inch scale as I feel the line has suffered for it." There. That's my feelings.

Thought experiment though: Imagine if Hasbro hired someone next year to take over the Marvel division that openly dismissed the 6 inch line, and openly praised the 4 inch line. Then, as a branding / costs measure, the 6 inch line was to be released with accessories for only one (maybe 2) figures a wave, the number of accessories scaled right back, no BAF parts, less articulation, and a 30% price hike. Meanwhile, the 4 inch line suddenly had between 2 and 4 accessories in every (now resealable) box, better artic, and BAF parts so you could create your own figures - and a price drop to $10. How do you think Legends collectors would react, and do you think the suggestion that maybe one line was being squeezed to pay for improvements in the other might just be a valid one?

I hate to say it, but THIS.

I spoke to a Hasbro rep at a convention once, two or so years back, about how shitty the Star Wars and Marvel 4" lines had gotten- I had done so, politely, mind. "The collector's have gone to the 6 inch scale." was the rather 'eff you' toned response I received. I showed her the collection pics I had on my phone, and said I was one of thousands who helped BUILD modern Hasbro on their 4" SW figures from when they took over Kenner, as well as the modern Joes AND WHEN THEY TOOK OVER THE MARVEL LICENSE and introduced the Universe line, to begin with.

I stated to her that it was hardly a 'difficult jump' for some, as with over-saturation of mainstream characters, terrible distribution, lack of marketing, poor character choice, paint and quality control issues, and constant re-branding and a severe dip in line management and care, it was rather easy for many to suddenly take up this other line that was readily available, held no diminished quality, had a larger breadth of characters (at the time) and actually gained NEW PRODUCT AT DECENT INTERVALS and that ACTUALLY SHOWED UP IN THE ****ING STORES, keeping us from HAVING TO PAY TO SH*T SCALPERS ON EBAY JUST TO SEE SOMETHING NEW AFTER SEVEN MONTHS!!!

If someone wishes to say the Marvel Legends line took off, yeah, it did. But don't think, or say, that us 4" fans did anything wrong to cause that, and you sure as heck can't say Hasbro was doing everything they could at the time for the 4" Marvel figures. I'm a very patient and understanding person, and I look on with silent jealousy whenever 6" gets Hellcat, or White Tiger, or Purple Man, or Agent 13, or Dormammu, or Misty Knight, but when 4" gets ANAD Wolverine, or Falcon Cap (neither of which I personally want), but when I see posters here, or the writers of Marvel Toy News, or whatever commentator spout 'Oh, it's for the sh***y 4" line' or 'who cares, should just be 6"', '4" should die,' etc., it feels like we're part of some crazy toy bigotry, and I thought- I would have hoped- the collector community would have been above that.

Either way, really tired of those with the steak on their plates complaining about us stuck with soup get the occasional fancy spoon. Crap metaphor, but you get the point.

And not singling anyone out here, but you have all surely seen what I refer to.

This is definitely what I'm talking about as part of the problem in the fan community. I have most of those people on block. But we also can't become as bad as them in trying to get the material we want made either.

Except I wouldn't call it jealousy, or even 'silent jealousy.'
Standing up to people spouting hate isn't about jealousy, it's about standing up to people dismissive of your feelings when you do present them politely and the belittling treatment that happens because they're blatant bungholes.

That's not jealousy, that's standing up to bullies.

That's the part I find really problematic with geek culture in general. For a group so based around having been treated as outcasts and ostracized, geeks sure as hell bully others without even thinking about it. The very things they claim to hate, often times they are. Instead of trying to understand where people come from, they attack and harass or insult.

Standing up to perceived injustice and doing so as your favorite heroes would, that often times many learned their moral codes from, is what makes the geek community a community. But the selfishness it turns to in promoting hatred, well, gee, I wonder where Marvel got the idea to turn cap into a hydra agent then. It's a reflection on the political system as well as ourselves.

Calling Dwight Stall names and treating him like crap, when they are actively trying to balance two scales, and finding a way to figure out the best way to do what they need to isn't the best approach. Truth is he'll probably get replaced at some point like Vonner was. That job isn't a permanent one as we've seen.

But the real issue is in the fan communities that ignore each other and try to claim superiority or are dismissive of the real non-insulting complaints of the industry to make it better.

Look at how fast many of us turn to support and help each other still. This is what makes us a community.

So yeah, you can speak for yourself about jealousy, but it's not my issue. My issue is that all sides need to stop acting like spoiled children and start working together. Legends and 3.75'' can work hand in hand as scales. But by acting like we're entitled on either side and the name calling, that's the problem.

I mean ffs, it's not like we're talking about real politics and media issues here. It's not like we're talking about the oppression the media world uses 24/7 to oppress and manipulate audiences and harm women or how celebs use publicist to oppress and harm women & women of color. It's not like we're talking about how men try to manipulate people and then make excuses for it because they think of others as objects not people. These are freaking toys meant for kids and we're freaking adults. Maybe we should act like it.

Not saying names, but there are users that promote these manipulation tactics and perpetuate this hate against their fellow collectors. And these dismissive attitudes and ignoring the feelings of others(or even trying to use this kindness of others by lying to them) has got to go. I've outright got all the users that are like that on ignore for that reason. I see no point in listening to people like that or even caring what they think.

I do agree that I'd like to see the 1:18th scale flourish again, and I think it will. But in the mean time while we're fighting for that, let's not become like what we hate seeing. Don't turn into the bad guys because you're resentful.

These are toys. And it will get better. We will see the characters we want made reach shelves. And the bungholes almost always do make people hate them to the point they get ignored.
