"Higher, Cable, higher!"

Kudos to Marvelfangirl for the above photo suggestion. :D

Yay! Loving the shots here Deadpool and Cable, there was a scene in the Deadpool Spidey comic where Deadpool was lifting Spidey in the air like that! Nice one! Also Gamora and Nova are very iconic too! Six years is a long time to be away. Also Deadpool and Cable: Epic bromance always loved their banter!

All right, so the new X-Men wave is pretty cool, but not perfect.

Dazzler - She is probably my favorite of the wave. I just love everything about her from the really nice paint apps right down to the detail on the skates. Not to mention her entire sculpt is really unique amoung the figures as a whole. I do wish she came with an alternate open right hand of her own because as great as it is to use Rogue's hand, the peg is about a mm bigger, so it stretches the wrist hole if on for too long. Nevertheless, this figure rocks!

Polaris - The green colors really pop and make her stand out, but she is far from issues. The cape is way too rubbery to stay in the peg hold, so it loves to just fall out. Also, the green above the thigh swivels are a different shade from the rest of her legs, so it can look odd depending on how you have things lit up.

Shatterstar - This dude is just awesome all around. Just like with Dazzler, the white ends up popping a lot more than I expected. The grays and browns also help add to him. My only nitpick is that I wish his hair wasn't so rubery and that the pony tail could rotate. That aside, no issues here. He also looks great in nearly any pose.

Sunfire - Oh how nice it is to really enjoy this guy this time. He's on the Spidey 2099 body, which has a great use of butterfly joints. On the negative side though, his shoulders look really weird if you were put him into a static standing straight up pose. The joints on this guy are really nice and tight and the paint apps are outstanding. Plus, I love that they gave him his original look (although, I do believe his gloves were yellow initially). The fire effects are pretty sweet too despite one of them not locking into the fist all that well. It is a shame they didn't give him an unmasked head though.

Colossus - I like this guy A LOT more than I thought I would. Or rather, I like the design more than I expected. Sure, I would rather have his classic design, but until Hasbro does that version, this is a solid figure all around. He is huge and the sculpted details for his armor are impressive. The lines are actually sculpted into the arms rather than just being painted. The bearded head to me is just down right laughable, but hey, at least it's an accessory. The only negative is due to his gauntlets, you can't really rotate his hands. There's no way in hell Hasbro is going to let this be the only time we see a Colossus figure with the amount of work they put into this guy.

Cyclops - OH boy, where do I begin? Okay, he's not that bad of a figure. The paint apps are great and the head sculpt is superb. The problem with this figure comes down to laziness. The buckle things on his boots, legs, and wrists are just pieces fitted around the sculpt, and as such, they are constantly moving around, especially the ones on the legs which love to slide down. I can usually get them locked on so they don't slide, but it only lasts until I pose him. It's a major pain in the ass. There is no reason why Hasbro couldn't have at least given him new boots. Also, the harness/belt/thing around his body is a tad too big, so it doesn't rest on his body like it should. Lastly, an alternate hand would have been welcomed since it does look weird to have him with a hand that has two fingers pointed outward. Although I guess it would be worse, he could have just had a fist without being able to have a visor pressing hand.

Warlock - Like Cyclops, this figure is slightly frustrating. The sculpt, the paint job, everything about him is wonderful. However, his legs are really heavy, so the waist joints seem very loose. Also, it seems like he only has ratchet joints in half of his upper elbow joint, so his arms just flop downward if you don't have them set at at least a 90 degree angle. I'm not sure if Hasbro did this on purpose due to the wires that connect from the arms to his back (think 90s Apocalypse Toy Biz toys) or if that is an unintentional design flaw, but it can get quite annoying when his arms just drop. I love the details in his hair though, especially on the backside. Warlock may never be one of my favorite X-Men characters, but he is a solid Build-a-Figure all around.

In the end, it is disappoint that Hasbro did not give us any villains, but I love what I got even with their flaws. I just hope they give us more multi-packs after Cyclops/Dark Phoenix to sate our mutant thirsts while we wait for next year's wave. Here's hoping for a Magneto/Prof X two pack later on this year (hell, most of the work is done, they just need to sculpt new heads and hopefully a new cape for Magneto).

With that said, enjoy the pictures below:

Holy shit, I feel like I just won the lottery! I do feel bad for the guy who walked up right after me looking for the same figures, but there was only one set of this wave. Super excited right now!

Byrnes 02-25-2017 08:53 AM

Great pics Dr. Kain

^What's that from?

Dr Kain 02-25-2017 10:40 AM

Well I finally broke down and ordered a Toy Biz Magneto. I saw a brand new MIP one on ebay for $25 and my fingers instantly impulse bought it since the last time I looked around I couldn't find him for less than $50 while the Hasbro one is like $80.

Hulk + Wolverine. (I hope they call him Hulkerine and he says stuff like "Hulkerine Slash!" .... sigh.... Can we just get rid of Alonso already?

It's a dated figure on an Iron Man body, but it's really not a bad one and I feel it still holds up. You'll like it. It's way better than the Jubilee wave version with his giant slipper flippers...

Kirathis 02-25-2017 12:12 PM

Great shots Dr. Kain. I really have very little interest in this wave outside of Warlock and Colossus but I have to admit that Sunfire looks awesome!

Sigh....I was all ready to post a pic comparing my new Select Rocket to some Legends figures only to discover that only Star Lord, Drax and Groot are in the box. Gamora/Rocket has not shipped yet. :(

Damn, since they're the two I'm debating getting. You could still post the others? I'm curious how Drax looks next to the likes of Venom (Agent or Spaceknight, whichever), and I'm probably not the only one.

Marvel Editor-in-Chief Axel Alonso tweeted a teaser image with the words "Under Construction" featuring what appears to be a Wolverine/Hulk hybrid in a lab.

Here are some of the photos I took last nightime of the Colossus' together.
I hope they make more, I will be in for those. I am a big fan of Colossus. I still like the select as my favorite though. Legends had better articulation.

The Select Colossus is badass. I was very excited about the Select line until I got a few and realized how limited they are for articulation. The Legends might not look as nice, but they look better on the shelf to me since you can pose them better. I am crazy about the Select Juggernaut though!

Archangel 02-25-2017 03:41 PM

That Select Colossus is super nice. I'm debating adding the new Legends Colossus to the collection. The Select is already about as good as it gets.

I know! If select only had an open hand he would perfect but alas, he does not. However he is so well done that simply standing alone it is just right. Nown the we have a legends we can have our cake and eat it too. Select can stand still and look like the perfect rendition of Colossus while the Legends can make up for his shortfalls in articulation!

AND I finally opened my OML... Pretty funny that he has a bum knee. Better that than a hip I guess, I will have to get him a cane to stand with. It doesn't ratchet at all, kind of floppy.
I love that I have an old OML because now I am starting a senior club.

I started buying Marvel Legends about 3 years ago. I initially used my son as an excuse to buy them, but I think my wife has figured me out now. I keep telling myself I'm going to stop at the next BAF. I'm finishing up Juggernaut here in the next week.

Hopefully I'll get the entire collection staged and take one big picture here soon. Archangel is probably my most prized figure. Hopefully we get an improved Psylocke soon. This figure just doesn't do the character justice. I'd love to get my hands on the SDCC X-Force 3-pack from a few years back.

I only have the Juggernaut head and waist so far. I will grab the others first chance I get. I am content with my Select for now even though I am sure the BAF has much better articulation.

Supposedly a bonding of the 2. Wolverine has been dead, hulk died during civil war 2 but was resurrected by the Hand ninjas.

Either way looks ridiculous....

The head is the hardest part at this point. I had to come off more cash than I wanted for that Wolverine. The other figures are cheap. Looks like Kitty might be climbing in price here soon. Get it cheap while you can. Deadpool started around 75 and is dropped around 25-30 now. That is probably one of the best sculpted figures I have bought.
