BAF Apocalypse needs to lay off the bench press and start working legs at the gym.

ScruffyJedi 02-27-2017 05:05 PM

BAF Appoclypse was fist BAF I made sure I wanted to build , no offense to the sentinel, I just really was digging the Appoclypse at the time.

I agree on the legs of the Apacalypse being the one thing I'd change from seeing pictures, but it still looks so good.

6 Sentinels, damn! I bet those made for some badass setups!

Nice grab, that's a good looking figure!

Dr Kain 02-27-2017 07:28 PM

So Toybiz Magneto unexpectedly showed up already. There are things I like about him, and things not so much. He's very Toybiz-ish, but he is probably one of the better Toybiz Legends I have had in my hands before. The joints are nice and tight and the paint apps are solid. His head is pretty cool too although I'm not sure if he is trying to fight the X-Men or hold in a fart. I was expecting the helmet to look goofy since every time I had a figure with a removable helmet, the helmet was a tad too big and looked silly (like on the very first Toybiz Magneto toy from 90). Thankfully, that is not the case here as it fits tightly on.

Unfortunately, this dude has gorilla arms and oh my god do they look huge if you have them straight down his sides. I think the worse are his fingers though because it looks like he put on fingered over mits. Also, the bicep swivel on his left arm has a huge gap in it between the shoulder and the bicep. I tried pushing the arm on tighter, but it turns out the hole inside the arm is a CM smaller than the peg. Not sure how I can fix this without cutting the peg or drilling the hole bigger.

The base itself is pretty cool, although he has a hard time stay attached to it if he isn't in the right pose. Speaking of which, when you get him in the right pose, he is freaking awesome. I'm glad I bought him as he will hold me over until Hasbro does him right.

Nice pickup Dr. Kain. This is one figure that I regret getting rid of a long time ago in a trade. Compared to the newer Magneto that Hasbro put out with the Jubilee wave, that figure is a definite upgrade, and it came out nearly 15 years earlier.

I keep hoping we get a new Magneto as well, although unfortunately, I have a feeling it won't be for a while, and when we do it'll be the new look or that awful "Joseph" clone look he had in the 90's with the pigtails. The X2 Magneto is still my favorite in my collection. That figure looks great and still holds up after all these years.

Finally got the last of the figures I wanted from the X-Wave in the mail today. Thoughts later...

http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...227_185838.jpg

I still haven't run into Cyclops, but with all of those loose bits on him, I'm not going to go out of my way to track him down, and there's no way I pay more than retail...I don't care what era the design is from.

Very cool collection! I've been debating looking for the older Magneto or waiting for them to redo it (not paying the current prices for Hasbro Magneto). I'm thinking if I wait though, the next version will be the gray with red current costume. I love the look, but the classic costume is a must have.

ScruffyJedi 02-27-2017 08:40 PM

nice write up Dr. Kain, have always liked that magneto as well. one of the nice thing that I liked about the older toy biz marvel legends were the bases that they came with and like you said if you can pose them right , while they are on display they look fantastic. his and thor bases made them just stick out so well while they were display.

Bo Ttef 02-27-2017 08:43 PM

I love Toybiz Magneto. Favorite part is those funky double shoulders lets him do great "bad guy" poses!

Captain Nash 02-27-2017 08:44 PM

Grrrr after a root canal today I took the day off and scoured four different targets in the area. Nothing. Even the ones that had the wave last week. I'm fearing that the stores got in 1-2 cases (I'd say just one but the one I found my prize at last week clearly got 2 cases), and they aren't going to get any more until April. Which would suck, I really want all of them but mostly Cyclops and Sunfire now. Yet not quite enough to pay exorbitant 2X retail prices online, that would only have been a one case scenario which thankfully I don't have to go through.

I think it's great so many people are finding them, but in a way I'm also looking forward to the hunt, to an extent. We don't have anything else until what..May/June except a few exclusives.

Oh and TRU also was a no show on the Groot so that also was a downer. Need that STAT!

Archangel 02-27-2017 09:11 PM

I actually have two of those Magneto's somehow. My wife picked up one of Etsy for cheap, and I won a box set with him, Gambit, Wolverine, and Beast.

Nice... I only remember Angela from Spawn, but reading up on her I like the fact that she is Thor and Loki's long lost sister now... makes me like the figure more.

I think the main culprit is that SW scalping is all but dead IMO... and SW was one of the main reasons why people were waiting at TRU when the doors opened... then once they finished checking the SW aisle they would go check out the MU and Joe aisles. But then MU got rid of a bunch of articulation and scalpers stopped buying them too... and Joes are nowhere to be found at the moment. IMO toy scalping peaked during the Clone Wars era and has been slowly dying off since.

Bo Ttef 02-27-2017 10:45 PM

a lot of the lack of scalping also comes from the fact that hasbro offers full case assortments of certain figures now -deadpool among them- those full cases of 'pool are starting to show up to EE distributors that had ordered them- kills the re-sale market when someone can just order up a full case of the "hot" figure instead of needing to buy a case of figures no one wants just to get one or two of the "in-demand" toy. Scalpers will still flourish during the "early" periods preying on the "have to have it first" crowd, but everyone else that can hold off a bit will eventually get the figure on the cheap or at least retail.

Dr Kain 02-27-2017 11:18 PM

A full case of Deadpool? Is someone on crack?

Finally got to open up Polaris and Dazzler tonight...here's some thoughts.

Polaris: I had read about what a hot mess this figure could be, and unfortunately, I got one of the messy ones. Her head sat really loosely on her shoulders, while the cape didn't quite plug into her back as firmly as I would have liked. Both of them required fixes, but once done, she's a pretty manageable figure. The Hope Summers/Jean Grey gauntlets work much better this time around, being of a soft plastic that doesn't hinder the articulation. I wish the boots would have got the same attention, rather than being just painted on. Everything else came out pretty good though, although I might paint the hair a lighter shade of green in the future, as it being so dark kind of subdues the effect of the headdress a bit.

http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...227_225022.jpg

Time to retire these effects for some new ones Hasbro. They have been fun, but let's see what else you guys can come up with...

http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...227_224818.jpg

Dazzler: Oh man...I had so much fun with this figure, as the rock star persona really allows for some fun poses. The paint apps are crisp, the newly sculpted parts are good, and the effect, which again, needs to go in favor of something new, looks great with it's multi-colored paint job. I also dig the roller skates, which allow her some pretty good balance for poses, although in the photos below, you'll noticed that I've modded Dazzler's foot pegs a bit (they are really long) to easily swap the skates out for high heels, much in the way that the interchangeable hands work on other Legends figures. The heels look great with Dazzler's disco look, and the figure balances pretty decently on them, much better than Black Cat ever did...

http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...228_000908.jpg

And now...time for a song...sing along if you know the words!!!

Honestly as an old school Angela fan I hate that soap opera level shit where she's literally related to Thor. The whole gimmick shows that Marvel lacked confidence in the character unless she could be tied to a mainstay.

I really want to like Polaris getting a figure finally, but I'm not a fan of the costume & it's not exceptionally executed either. I'm thinking of doing a custom, but the bases I'm considering are pricey.

I'd keep checking, the closest Target to me just got a new case in yesterday (at least its second shipment since the first sold out). The trick around here is to check the days they get shipments right after the store opens. Talk to the people who work there, they told me what days they got new stuff in and what time it would be on the shelf by.

Check darkhawks face, he had a plastic imperfection on the one i saw yesterday. I ended up putting him back on the shelf. Sucks cause he's the main one i wanted too.
