Sure are seeing a lot of new reveals and a lot of new tooling for an allegedly lost license. I applaud his nonsensical go get'em attitude. It flies in the faces of both basic business economics and common sense. Go Todd.

Those would've been in production months before Todd officially lost the license.

Has anyone seen ACTUAL proof that he's lost the license OR has there been an official statement? If so I totally missed that and my bad. Apologies. Ignore what comes next. Most will anyway because it ain't flashy and requires objectivity. "Proof" doesn't mean single source or colluded IG/FB/X drop rumors. Also, hearing from a friend of a brother in law that knows a dock guy who dates a call center gal that buys weed from a parking lot attendant that works at...does not qualify either. I've been around the hobby for a minute. I've known a lot of folk deeply connected over the years. Still do, in fact. I have NEVER seen someone "loose a license" and churn out this level of NEW product. Not to mention McFarlane's record sales numbers (or industry awards for the line). Because, if a license is up for grabs what IP Slinger worth their salt would care about actual sales numbers? Let's just say for the sake of complete and total futility (on my part, of course) that Mattel DID indeed get a DC License again...Has no one entertained the possibility their license is in addition to McFarlane's? OR what Mattel's new license actually allows them to produce? Before someone goes nuts and tries to "explain" to ignorant ole me that possible occurrence is a distinct impossibility just know that I realize most of the stuff I read from "expert" dudes on the internet is totally fabricated. YES. I fully admit it IS possible he got his license yanked. I've seen stranger things happen. But for dudes to just believe shit outright and re-peddle that info like it's incontrovertible fact before having actual proof is...well...it's idiotic. I guess we'll all see soon. Maybe? (shrugs) |
At the end of February WB and Mattel dropped a press release announcing that Mattel was regaining DC's license.

https://www.toyark.com/2025/02/27/ma...in-2026-555688 The press release says that Mattel will take over producing figures in the second half of 2026. That means McFarlane has ~16 months to release figures. As long as the sales are still there, I'd keep going too. Plus, if they've spent the money on sculpting and tooling, you might as well make what money you can by releasing the figures. |
did that digital wave ( fate/ two face/ superman ) go up for sale anywhere today? i didnt see it listed in the usual places
and same for that amazon killing joke exclusive a week or so ago..? sometimes the amazon listings disappear if theyre sold out, so i wasnt sure |

They're still working with DC in 2026 and beyond, they're still negotiating stuff.

You think it means just statues, retro or super powers? Or does it mean multiverse figures?

Hasbro's Marvel Legends coexisted with Diamond's Marvel Select line so maybe we could see a similar situation between Mattel and McFarlane, maybe.
|
That would be nice, but I can’t believe Mattel would allow anything to compete with them. I know Diamond is limited on releases ,scale and where they can be sold. I just so wanted all the DC films in one scale.
The Alfred with another Batmobile is unreal. Didn’t see that coming. |

I think basic DC Multiverse figures would be out of the question. The prices and where the figures are sold in brick 'n mortar stores would be too similar between the Mattel and McFarlane lines. But a line like DC Collector Edition could still happen since they're a higher price point, and sold in the collector's section of Walmart and Target. |
I have zero knowledge of the license situation beyond what the press release said, and don't follow what else is being chatted about on the internets, but, at Toy Fair they did say they were talking with DC about the future, but didn't know what that would be yet. This wasn't Todd, was a rep I toured the booth with. Don't take it as concrete, who knows what folks know at different levels of the company right now.
Personally, if anything continues, I would bet it's some version of DC Direct. That was independent, owned and operated by DC / Warner Brothers for a long time. Then it was shut down, and merged into the McFarlane machine around time he got the license. Some of the people from the original DC Direct came over, and some still there. That would allow things like the statues to continue, things not in Mattel's wheelhouse or meant for mass production and space at Target/Walmart. However, some of the action figure lines in recent times were under that branding. Super Powers, The Animated Series, Todd's Mods that I can see on a quick scan. Looks like Retro 66 & related are NOT DC Direct branded. What I guess - the larger figure lines like Super Powers, Retro, Animated - stop. DC Multiverse, Collector Edition, Digitial Edition action figures - stop. Super Niche & higher end stuff under the DC Direct brand - continue. Also possible that Mattel picks up the Super Powers, Animated, Retro lines where Todd leaves off, or if things get real crazy - they work together and give each other royalties, set guidelines for what/when/where/how-much so they don't each each others lunch, however that works out. But yeah, if I had to bet, action figure lines stop, statues and niche stuff continue under DC Direct. |
