Hey man....Dazzler's not a pegwarmer. I had a hell of a time finding her. And she's a cool figure.

i have a random question on a marvel character. Ares, if he is a greek god, why does he have modern pants versus a loin cloth or something from that time. and does anyone else thinks his chest skull looks cheesy? i am thinking of buying him but i think i will modify his skull logo and pants

It's not physically impossible or inconceivable that a god might be like "hmm, y'know, I think I'm gonna change it up, maybe try these human clothes", especially because, as a former member of the Avengers, he spent a lot of time with humans.

Like everyone only one I'm still looking for is Cyclops of course. Too bad these aren't as easy to find as the Dc Multiverse who are everywhere.

None of the god characters in Marvel make any serious attempt to remain true to the mythology, so I wouldn't stress about it.

Sunfire's so bland though :eeek

What's the deal with Thor characters? Are they copyrighted? If so, how? It's basically public domain mythology

The actually mythology isn't copyrighted, just Marvel's depictions of them. Like, you can make an animated movie about Thor from actual Norse mythology if you want, but none of the elements of Norse mythology in it can be significantly similar to Marvel's versions, at least visually.

Weapon X 04-13-2017 09:27 PM

That's so weird man. I feel like they shouldn't be able to do that.

Not that I'm hating....I love Marvel.

Why? Again, nothing about Norse mythology itself (the characters, locations, etc.) is copyrighted. It's just that you can't have Thor in a particularly Marvel Thor-looking helmet, or you have to make Mjolnir look different, etc; stuff like that. It's not like Jack Kirby's designs for all the elements of Norse mythology, and all the other Marvel Norse designs that sprung from them, are remotely near the only (or even most accurate) way the elements of Norse mythology can be depicted.

Haha true....the only Dc Multiverse Wave that kinda interested me so far is the King Shark one and of course that's the only one i haven't seen yet. I love Dc universe and Dc Collectibles but for some reason the Dc Multiverse aren't done as good.

Yeah Sunfire is Probably my 2nd favorite of the wave. I read X men comic books but I don't really know much about his Character and yet still like it.

Captain Nash 04-14-2017 06:40 AM

Hitting on the topic of Thor and being true to Norse mythology, I thnk that's my issue with Jane Foster Thor. I have read some of the first run and thought it was great, I think the character is great, but I hate they named her Thor. Thor is not a title, it's someone's name. It's like instead of having another person be Iron Man, you literally have someone else saying they are Tony Stark. Surely there was some other name they could have given her. Still, great character...probably the best of the legacy characters or at least on par with X-23verine.

Jason Aaron lives in the area, so he's always at local Comic-Cons and I asked him about Jane Foster Thor once when he was signing some of my comics. I asked him what he calls her and he said it's just "Thor". I basically said the same thing as you. Thor isn't his title, it's his first name. Again he said she's just "Thor". I didn't want to argue with him because he always seems like a genuinely nice guy, but that answer is pretty frustrating. I also asked him once if the female Thor concept was something he came up with on his own or if the editorial dept. told him they wanted Thor to be a woman to add diversity. Remember this was the same time that Sam Wilson took up the mantle of Captain America and there were many changes going on with other characters around this same time too. He said that he came up with it himself and pitched the idea but they timed it out to coincide with other characters being diversified. I have his entire run of Thor: God of Thunder and the Jane Foster series. He's one of my favorite comics writers, but I agree she should have a different name. I thought Odinson would use the Ultimate Thor's hammer and reclaim his Title by the end of Unworthy Thor, but that wasn't the case.

Unworthy was a good mini series !! I also was hoping he took the hammer. Judging from the end of the last issue, it looks like ultimate thor might be making an appearance or possibly a new thor series.

On another note. Found this guy today ! Completely forgot about the TRU exclusive Groot til i saw him and grabbed him up.

The TRU Groot has begun to invade my local TRU. No X-Men there, but a good number of Groots.

Boy Blunder 04-14-2017 09:02 AM

Has anyone heard or seen anything about the Walmart-exclusive Black Panther? I'm still chomping at the bit to get that one, and other than Triv getting him at a border-town store, I've heard jack crap about him.

Nothing. I mean, that's the one I keep thinking I'll run into first out of anything I don't have yet...and zilch. every time. I was sure he was supposed to be out by now?

@Nite I haven't seen a Groot in store either, but that's my TRU for ya. Also just glad I paid $5 extra and got him through an amazon third party seller, and yeah that was with shipping and tax...so really more like $3 extra...and I own him lol.

Weapon X 04-14-2017 09:41 AM

I'm sorry guys but I gotta rant. I just encountered scalpers in person for the first time.

I went to Toys R US before it opened to get Old Man Logan, and these two old guys who looked sketchy as hell were standing outside the store. I suspected what they were, but wasn't sure. I heard them talking about probation, further adding to the sketchiness.

The doors opened, and the guys scurried ahead, and sure enough went into the Marvel Legends section. There was one Old Man Logan, one Colossus, one Sunfire, and one Cyclops and they grabbed them all.

I asked the manager if there was any in the back, he had one of the stockers check, nothing. But the stocker was really nice and managed to get one of the scalpers to give up the Cyclops, so I bought it. He also took down my name and number to call me when Logan comes in.

He was all too familiar with scalpers, and says he's had to lock up toys before due to fights and whatnot. He said that scalping is literally these sleazebags' professions, and that they have to deal with them all the time.

It bothered me that despite the store manager being aware of what they were doing, he did nothing. I literally watched as these assholes went around the whole store snatching up Star Wars, Marvel, you name it and putting it into bags.

It's no wonder I've never seen these douchebags before. They get there at opening and then are gone with the wind.

Sorry, I'm just freaking pissed. Scalpers are the scum of the Earth.

i have alot to say about this topic but ill just keep it short. i agree with you and collectors have always hated scalpers. plus people confuse scalpers with being "collectors"...

I've seen Groot exactly twice. Once when I went to the 'secondary' TRU (not as close as my primary, but we still check it a lot) and saw three full pegs of him. The second time was when I went back with the intent to buy (two if possible, for a Cyclops trade), and they had exactly ONE left.

Yeah, I was kind of under the assumption that he and Sue would've been hitting stores by now, but I haven't seen him, and our local Walgreens hasn't called me about Sue coming in. So I don't know what's going on.
