My thoughts exactly. This Vulture will fit in nice, and with all of the Spider-Man themed Legends we've gotten since 2014, I have to believe we'll see a Classic Vulture sooner than later.

donmeca2020 04-17-2017 08:09 AM

there is only 2 versions of vulture im familar with. the old bald headed one with the white puffy collar and the young 90s version with the green headpiece. so as far as him having a helmet on that is new to me...

im 50/50 on this 2 pack....

SymbiSpidey 04-17-2017 08:16 AM

Hasbro kinda dropped the ball on this 2-pack for me personally....a Spider-Man that has absolutely no differences from the version I already have and comes with less accessories, packaged with a classic Spidey villain in a costume that doesn't fit in with 90% of the villains they've already released. I'll still probably get it because any Spidey collection worth its salt needs a Vulture in it (unless I decide to throw down for the old ToyBiz version) and it'll be a decent enough placeholder.

Are we talking Spidey villains specifically or Marvel villains in general? Because while I get the complaint there have been a fair amount of modern looks in recent waves, hero or villain alike.

As far as Ultimate villains, the only ones I can think of from recent memory are Ultimate Green Goblin and Ultimate Beetle and I can't think of any Ultimate characters they've done lately from anywhere outside of Spider-Man, which is why I don't get the randomly tossing in Ultimates characters.

Because the costumes are also in use in the Ultimate Spider-Man and Avengers Assemble animated series, both of which are currently running (see also: Iron Skull, Onslaught-wave Taskmaster), and in certain ways Hasbro likes to keep a finger on that pulse.

the ultimate universe no longer exists in the comics. i mean besides the cartoon, i really don't see the need for them to keep trying to push out ultimate characters.

I suppose so. Even then, the Vulture from the 2-pack looks a lot different from the one in the cartoon, at least going by the pictures I've seen. Iron-Skull and Taskmaster clearly had looks lifted from the cartoons, but Vulture on the other hand is definitely more Ultimate inspired than cartoon inspired.

hasbroherofan 04-17-2017 09:10 AM

Didn't they do Ultimate Jessica Drew as well?

With this Vulture, my guess is aside from the cartoon inspiration (which others have mentioned) they may have just wanted a comic Vulture that is vaguely similar to the one in the movie for more casual buyers. With the helmet and back-mounted wings (as opposed to them being attached to his arms) the toy looks almost like an the middleground between the classic and MCU designs.

True, it seems to be a hybrid of the comics and cartoon designs - the helmet, as seen in the screenshot on the previous page, is from the Hydra armor used in the cartoons, but the rest of the costume is comics-based with a passing similarity to Vulture's first look in the cartoon.

I'd assume that Hasbro intends to use the tooling again, so they went with one they could get more mileage out of, while adding the helmet so that the figure could do a passable job filling in for the character in both collections (like including the Udon Studios/miniseries head with Taskmaster, or the Dirk Anger head with 616 Nick Fury)

See, I'm not so sure about that. They could, but they'd have to do a lot of work to make them look like organic wings since Vulture's wings look like actual feathers.

Ultimate Spider-Man has ended though.

Also, this is not the case with Vulture. THe Ultimate cartoon's Vulture was an emo teenager who could actually turn into a vulture creature.

Harbinger 04-17-2017 09:29 AM

That two pack vulture looks like a trifecta combo of the 90's spidertoon version, the classic old toombs version and a helmet of the homecoming vulture.

It just ended. As in, literally three months ago. Which means that it's still 'fresh' in terms of the public consciousness, and certainly in the realm of 'toys inspired by this that had to be produced months in advance.'

Also, it's in-continuity with the other shows (Avengers Assembler and Guardians of the Galaxy), both of which are still running and, as such, can utilize the same characters/designs if they so desire. So even with USM gone, the universe still has new material.

Who later gets a suit of armor that has literally the exact same helmet as the one pictured with the toy.

It's not the same iteration of the character but they clearly took inspiration from it, was my point.

Honestly, if I ever see those goons again and they grab a toy, I'm not going to be so nice. I'll probably either:

1. take it out of their hand and run off
2. shove through them and grab what I want, I was too nice and just hung back as they grabbed everything, since they got the aisle first. To hell with consideration though, they aren't considerate themselves.

Ah you live in Cali huh yeah ;)

He quickly pulled out a couple of figures he had obviously stashed there before. I didn't quite see what specific toys they were, but they weren't Marvel Legends or DC Multiverse like I was hunting for. I don't know if they were scalpers or if they were just stashing toys until they had money, but it's B.S. either way. I'm going to start checking those little hiding spots so I can raid their stash if there's something I'm looking for.

I've read tf board members stashing figures for other member's, although I'm not the type to go digging around everywhere though haha. If I don't see it around that specific toy row then eh...I don't got the time to mess around like that...

Jerseysteel 04-17-2017 11:51 AM

I may slip that 2 pack, thankfully I have Vulture from the box set Toybiz did

decepticon_mark 04-17-2017 12:54 PM

Well until they remake a classic 616 Vulture I'll be getting this one as a stand in I guess.

En Sabah Nerd 04-17-2017 01:09 PM

I feel like instead of this two pack with another Spidey release they should've done the movie Vulture with his wings as a deluxe set and then in the Homecoming wave they could've done a comic Vulture in his place with some other BAF for the wave.

That makes sense.....so naturally hasbro does the exact opposite. ;)

hasbroherofan 04-17-2017 01:40 PM

Just going off the photos the wingspan on Ultimate Vulture still looks smaller than the BAF.

With a bit of paint and the head fom a toy biz angel he could pass for the other vulture, the younger one from the cartoon in the 90's.

As my collection has grown, my collecting habits have slowed down...But, the Vulture from the Spidey 2 pack will be mine...And, like other Arkers on this site, I'm tired of too much Spidey, Iron Man, and Cap...I don't collect waves that much anymore because Hasbro has been doing to much ''re!" Too much re-using molds, to much re-using accessories, and too much re-using old figures and putting them into 2 packs...Hasbro, stop the madness! Hasbro, if you going to 're' something, re-do the X-Force, X-Men (Jubilee) or Puck BAF, now these, IMO, are worth redoing because so many, including people on site, missed out because of limited distribution, exclusivity, and scalpers. Think Hasbro, Think!

My area finally got the new X-wave so I nabbed Logan. Now they just need to repaint the Juggernaut wave Wolverine into his tiger-stripes costume and my trinity will be completed

Repaint the Juggernaut wave Wolverine with the Astonishing Wolverine Outfit.

Yeah this just seems like one of those things where Hasbro wasn't really thinking about what's already in our collection.
