Freddy v Jason was horrible! Freddy droppin' bows from the top rope like some kind of MMA fighter!?! Jason, who I believe has been clearly established as being able to put this fist through people, can't beat Freddy unconscious in the mortal realm!?! Jason, who is at this point clearly some kind of daemon/zombie/force of nature/unstoppable killing machine can be put down with horse tranquilizer!?! a knife popping the valves on pressurized tanks of... what the hell were those and why were they, and some kind of rock crusher, all of a sudden next to a camp? The whole damn thing felt like someone just wrote down a conversation between two stoners who were debating who would win in a fight. there is literally no "Horror" in the whole thing, just the occasional reference to some way one of the villains killed someone in one of there movies from back when there characters had credibility. It felt more like a parody than cannon to either franchise, plus it was pretty much the death of both series, as they both needed reboots afterwards. I think Freddy and Jason are two great tastes that don't taste great together. If you really thought this was a great film, then you need to get to writing a script for Han Solo V.s Indiana Jones.

AVP is exactly the same way. The big shame there is how cool the comics and original fps game are. Freddy and Jason, Alien and Predator, they're separately nice, but unlike peanut-butter and jelly or steak and lobster they don't mix. These crossover movies are like mixing chocolate and salmon.
Also, Han Solo wins easy, he has a spaceship and a way better sidekick. Let the hating commence!

Disagree as clearly the writers knew the mythologies to both Jason and Freddy, which is far more than anyone who has done an AvP crossover. There are issues, but the fight is just awesome. As for a construction zone in Crystal Lake, it does say on the sign that it is reopening in 2004, so they are rebuilding the camp site.

Friday the 13th Remake - This was the first true Friday the 13th movie I ever saw and it was pretty good. Now that I have seen the others, I still think this is a good one, certainly better than some of the sequels to the original series, but it is heavily flawed. I do not really like this version of Jason as he seemed to be more Leatherface than Jason, taking hostages and overall, acting more human than anything else. THe guy who also played Jason sucked when it came to movement. On the other hand, there were some pretty cool death scenes, but most of the characters were unlikable, especially Trent, who makes the rich bitch from VII appear lovable. Overall, I'm going to drop this movie down from my original 7/10 from 2009 and move it to a 6/10. It isn't bad by any means, and it is certainly superior to the Halloween and Nightmare remakes, but it still is pretty subpar compared to the best of the series.

ANd thus brings an end to the entire Friday the 13th series. While it is not my favorite horror franchise, as a whole, the series is subpar, they are still quite enjoyable and there are some truly good movies within.

I haven't actually sat down and watched all of Freddy vs Jason as I heard such bad things about it, but I am equipped to rant about AVP. I read the original comics and played the original game, so watching the movie is bitterly disappointing. The comics and game were appropriately set in the Aliens time and showed the idea that the predators hunted xenomorphs, but humans' technology had developed to a point that they were finally interfering with these hunts and crossing both sides. In the comics specifically, which the movie was clearly using as some form of inspiration, a farming colony is caught in a xeno hunt that goes wrong and the queen sets up her hive in the colony forcing a lone predator to help humans stop it. This predator was helping them out of a matter of honor he felt needed repaying since a human saved his life, not like in the movie where "scar" is given back his stolen weapon and just decides "oh what the hell, come on and help me!" Then there's the matter of the predator look itself in the movie, they were way too huge. The first two movie predators were like 7'4", and they were clearly strong, but they still had some acrobatic finesse look going on. The three in AVP just looked like football players and had all this armor stacked on. So yeah, having roided up predators and one of them being a straight-up good guy kills the movie for me.

To answer your question Dr. Kain, Kane Hodder was originally the first actor contacted to play Jason when casting began, but there were a number of problems from the start. The first problem started with Hodder's physical stature, as he is actually fairly short, but was physically too big. Standing next to Robert, Kane would have actually been shorter than Freddy, which was not the look they were going for. According to Kane, Ronny Yu (the director) wanted his Jason to be a mentally disabled, towering, Frankenstein type, and with Kane's height being a problem, he also felt that Kane's portrayal as Jason in previous movies was too calculated and cartoonish. Yu also claimed that he wanted an actor with "more expressive eyes." Depending on who you believe though, Yu said it was not his entirely his decision to recast Jason, but the studios, and there were claims that Kane wanted too much money, a fact that Kane said was BS. It was a very bitter situation that Kane still holds a grudge with to this very day.

I've always considered FvJ to be a piece of sendoff fan-fiction for the series, rather than the death. Whether you like it or not, it was the highest grossing film in either the Nightmare or Friday series, hardly something that I'd call a killing blow to the franchise. Robert Englund was set to move on from Freddy altogether, and there were plans already in place to reboot Friday the 13th once the franchise's distribution rights went from Paramount/New Line to Michael Bay's company Platinum Dunes. Was it scary? No. But was it goofy and fun? I thought so. Jason going apeshit at the rave still makes me laugh to this very day!

My biggest issues with this movie was something that I mentioned earlier, it seemed as if the director went on a internet chat board to see what should be in a Friday The 13th film, as opposed to making something original and scary with respect to the source material. The board meeting must have went like this: "We got tits, ass, profanity, sex scenes, pot jokes, more pot jokes, token ethnic characters, some more tits, and a big dude in a hockey mask with a machete. Oh...and more pot jokes. And that kid from Supernatural....put it in a blender and out pops a Friday the 13th film. SOLD!" The director went for the ultimate Friday the 13th film by trying to include all the elements that he thought fans would castrate him over if they were not featured in the movie, but instead of creating horror's version of "Watchmen", he ended up creating "Snakes On A Plane" instead.

The movie starts off with a great premise, as we see Jason as a survivalist type who's quite clever and an athletic savant for being basically a preteen adolescent mentally with a pituitary disorder. He's agile, quick on his feet, and doesn't play around. He's also sort of the town's big secret, their boogie man if you will (which is never really touched on...) He steals what he needs to get by, stays hidden and out of sight, and only comes out when his territory is threatened. The great premise though is ruined though about halfway through the film as a Jason, who relies on shortcuts, bursts of speed, underground passages, and tripwires; begins to resort to teleporting around camp like a beefier, deranged version of Nightcrawler in a hockey mask. The first set of kills in the movie were truly scary in how fast and brutal we see such a big man move, only to have it reduced to a bunch of predictable "boo" moments by a phantom who appears out thin air (and always from behind!)

Oh, I forgot to mention...he also comes out when people try to steal his pot crop, because the pot is booby trapped, and those who have actually gotten away with it, he tracks down and kills. Seriously? Is he the resident dealer? With the way the movie keeps coming back to that stupid pot crop in the middle of the forest over and over again, Walter White ain't got nothing on Jason.

The hostage thing just made me shake my head...it was a really shoddy way of trying to bring Jason's mommy issues into the plot, but what made it worse was that the girl looked nothing like Jason's mother, I don't care what her boyfriend told her before she put on the locket. Jason has never taken hostages in the 30 plus years he's been around, and while I applaud the director for trying something different, it comes off as a really weak way to keep a character alive for the finale.

One thing that was really awesome though, was that the remake of "My Bloody Valentine" came out the week before the reboot/remake "Friday" Seeing Jenson Ackles take on Harry Warden the week before watching Jared Padalecki made it feel like it was a two episode special of Supernatural, with Sam and Dean going solo on their own adventures! =)

So, a Dead Rising movie is happening, and we now have word that Rob Riggle has been cast as Frank West. Absolute perfect casting, in my opinion. I saw his picture next to a headline about the movie, and I immediately thought "He should be playing Frank!" so I was not disappointed. I assume it'll be a horror comedy.

I just wish McFarlane could get action figure rights, even though Capcom is a notorious pain in the ass when it comes to getting liscensor approval on merchandise. One of my dream toylines would be Dead Rising in the same scale as The Walking Dead action figures. It would be amazing. Frank, Chuck and Nick would be no-brainers, as would be any number of zombies... but the psychopaths would be truly special. An Adam The Clown toy with dual chainsaws would be amazing. Just think about the possibilities of having the Governor side-by-side with that collection of psychotic misfits.

And think of the variants for the main characters! So many goofy costumes in the game. A Mega Man X Frank West would be awesome.

I really wish they did an AVP movie without any humans. set it on an alien world no reference, or appearance of humans. just literally follow a group of predators as they hunt Xenomorphs, or show a Xeno invasion of the predator home world, or flip it and make the Xeno's the sympathetic characters. If done right and well you could pull it off masterfully with no dialogue, or translate like apocalypto with subtitles. I'm picturing the basic plot of 300 but with predators in place of Spartans.

Uh... Kane is 6'3", how is that too short?

Englund is 5'9 so with the Freddy hat on that would make him look like 6'-6'1", so maybe they wanted a more physically dramatic size difference to illustrate that Jason had the physical advantage? (personally I'd bet it came down to either money, or some behind the scenes pissing contest) the fact that it was purely a fan boy fueled film means that Hodder, or one of the other noted previous Jason actors, would have been the clear choice to appeal to fans. Plus the way they film movies anyone can look any height they want. look at Top Cruse, the guy is like 3'11"! but on film you'd think he's at least 6'. that said I did meet Mr. Hodder at a Con a couple years ago, and he has become a bit ... well, we shall say "rotund". and no one wants a fat Jason.

That is what should never happen to any horror monster/icon. Making the villain even a tad sympathetic is what killed the Nightmare remake. If you make 'em sympathy-driven then they lose all credibility as a horror icon, and come off as a sad schmuck shell of their former self. I find it hard to watch when a figure known for ripping people apart, eating through their heads, etc. becomes soft.

I didn't mean make them soft and cuddly, I was thinking more of following one smart Xeno as it's being hunted. kind of like Apocalypto but the main guy would be a xeno. and that would be my point in not having humans, then you don't have to get into a "good guy/ bad guy" human emotion element, or anyone protecting the weak human. just preds and Xenos going at it.

I get what you mean about following a xenomorph, just so long as it never comes off as a victim. Have it still hunt and kill while it's being hunted by the predator(s), a serious game of cat and other cat. I'd also like if instead of getting any kind of subtitles for these creatures, maybe just body-language and gestures with the roaring/chirping thing that Predators do, and we'll just get the gist of what's happening.

yeah I think it would be better without translation. otherwise it could get ridiculous, like two predators discussing there failing relationships or there abysmal day jobs.

1. Kain Hodder didn't not leave Freddy vs Jason due to his size. The guy is a HUGE D-Bag (I've met the dude, I can say this. lol) & walked out because he believed that the film made Jason look weak. Hodder was a horrible Jason anyway. He was like a sloppy pro wrestler. The alternate ending for FvsJ would've been amazing. They talked about that in the Nightmare on Elm Street documentary. I believe its called never sleep again. Very good take a look.

I feel bad for the actors from Human Centipede. Not because they had to get all ass to face, but because their careers all died with that movie.

I've heard that Derek Mears (who played Jason in the reboot) is actually a nice guy, maybe they were tired of working with assholes and said find somebody big, but nice to work with.

How is The Horde? there have been a lot of what I call assembly line zombie movies in the last few years and most of them are a complete waste of time (flight of the living dead). If you like zombie flicks with a good original twist I recommend "Exit Humanity" it's set during the civil war and it's like The Outlaw Josie Wales meets the original night of the living dead.
I know that Human Centipede comes off as more of a gross out/dark comedy than horror to most people. (mostly because of the premise) but I did think it was well executed for what it was. now HC2 that was some dark shit! no joke I've got a stomach for some sick stuff, and I've seen things in real life that would leave a lesser man scared and weeping, but after watching that movie I literally looked at my friend (who was stationed with me in Afghanistan) and said "I wish I could un-see that" I felt cold, sickened, and disturbed. I believe it's the only horror movie that has done that to me as an adult. It's not "scary" per say but if you haven't seen it consider yourself warned.

Both Human Centipede's bank too much on grossing the viewer out.

Ken Kirzinger, the stuntman who played Jason in FvJ was 6'5". Add the hood and makeup, and the platforms in his boots (Jason has a noticeable platform of at least two inches in the movie) and now you have a guy who's nearly 6'8" to Robert Englund's 5'9".

Kane's size and acting ability was what got him forced forced out of the role. From the start the cards were stacked against him. Production Executive Stokely Chaffin said that Kane was not only too short, but she also said he was "too chunky" and "not scary." Robert Englund said that while he loved Kane, Director Ronnie Yu wanted Jason to be "a tall, skinny, Anthony Perkins kind of character." Yu himself also said that he personally wanted more focus on Jason's eyes, and felt that Kane was too cartoonish in his mannerisms, and was physically not right for what he wanted from the character. Hodder said that he offered a lowball contract that offered little to nothing in the way of perks (such as residuals) which forced him to bow out. It should also be noted that Yu has flipped flopped on whose fault it was over the years, probably to hide from the wrath of Hodder fans who were pissed he was not chosen for the film. While I'm biased as I am not a Hodder fan myself (Richard Brooker and Ted White were far and away the best Jasons) I'm glad they made the decision, as I enjoyed Kerzinger's take on the character.

And yes...that Nightmare on Elm Street biography was awesome. Definitely not something that can be watched in one sit through (what was it...like 4 hours long?) but is definitely a must watch for any Freddy fan. My only gripe was that it came out very recently, and failed to talk anything about the reboot/remake, which while I was not a huge fan of, would have loved to learn more about anyways.

Great zombie flick. Does a decent job with tension, which is something that most zombie films now a days don't have. It also a straight up zombie film, staying away from the comedy that has been present in most modern zombie films the past few years.

I liked Mears, but by the time the movie hit it's end, I just felt like he was a bit too stiff and wooden in the role. He does seem like a really cool guy. I especially enjoyed a recent interview with him where he said that he likes to find the lowest rated horror movies on Netflix and watch them just so he can see how terrible they really are...

I'd like the see the WWE's Kane (Glenn Jacobs) get a shot at playing Jason. He basically played Jason his first few years as a WWE wrestler, and his performance in "See No Evil" really makes me feel like he could pull it off. He's a really big dude who's freakishly strong and quite agile for his size. He's also uglier than sin. Wouldn't take a whole lot of makeup to get the look they'd want.

**** HUMAN CENTIPEDE!! That movie is just flat out gross and is only popular because of its shock value, not because it has anything of redeeming value in it.

(just kidding), but seriously at least movies that are in my opinion crap like Centipede and sharknado are original! how many cookie cutter Jason rip offs do we see every year! "I got it Jason in a ski mask!, no a smiley mask, no a gas mask, no a motorcycle helmet, no a pumpkin! I'll give props to originality over re-hashing the same idea in a new package over and over.

Don't you mean Halloween rip-offs since Friday the 13th was a rip off of Halloween? Human Centipede's originality is nulled when you can't enjoy the movie because of how gross it is. And Sharknado is just a steaming piece of crap. I would rather watch five sequels to Jason X before I suffer through Sharknado again. Even the Rifftrax live couldn't make Sharknado the least bit enjoyable.

Yeah I didn't get on the Sharknado bandwagon either. I love bad horror(Full Moon Productions anyone?) but those crappy cgi syfy movies chap my ass.

As for Jason I'm not that big a fan. I did like him in the remake. He was big, he moved. Hodder was a stocky cartoon character. Can't say the same for Freddy which is why I'm glad that film was left out of the documentary. I hate that movie so damn much. It was like every 5mins they had to remind us what Freddy was & did. The original did not spend much time on that. I really hate how modern horror really has to explain why these bad guys or monsters do what they do. Who in the hell cares? That's my biggest of many beefs with Zombies Halloween. Before Zombie, Myers had no back story. It was a white mask w/ eyes you could not see trying to kill his family. When you explain the hell out of the monsters it takes away from them a little bit for me. Another problem with modern horror is that there is no characters! Back in the day you had Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolfman all the Universals. Then you move on to Freddy, Jason, Myers, Leatherface & Pinhead. What do we have now? Most of the horror is lame ghost/possesion crap, found footage or people killing themselves. We need icons. We had characters like the Creeper & the Djinn from wish master but they were squashed. I was kinda hoping the collector movies would spawn into a modern horror franchise. they're a million times better than the saw films imho.

I'm with you on the whole over-explaining themselves thing, I think that's why the first Halloween was so great. random kid, for no reason kills his sister, gets incarcerated, decides years later to break out and go on a killing spree. That's scary because there's no explanation! and Saw comes off as "murderous Rube Goldberg machines" parts 1through 99.
