Is the Jane figure the same one as the mass release or is there any new paint on it? Didn't the old SDCC Thor at least have cool glowy bits?

I was intensely amused by someone getting angry at the Lady Loki reveal a few months ago and ranting about modern Marvel losing their minds and trying to appease women, apparently not realizing Lady Loki is literally a decade old at this point lmao.

TheBlueMarvel 05-01-2017 07:01 AM

Hasbro could have left Singularity out of this set and I wouldn't have cared one whit. I'm close to indifferent on Loki also, but a strong head sculpt and smart sculpt/paint on the armor makes things better (didn't she wear a long gown in the storyline??). That said, all this fig really manages to do is make me expectant of another canon Loki in a similar look.

Sonequa Martin may want to take Hasbro to task and sue for unlicensed use of likeness on Monica. Hasbro couldn't have made a head sculpt that looked more like her had they tried. Too bad she's transitioning to a "Star Trek" property rather than "Star Wars," they could have saved that face-sculpt for a toy off her.

I was very excited once I learned that Elsa Bloodstone was going to be released, but the figure's face doesn't scream Elsa to me. The collagen/botox injected lips seem more in-line with the false-beauty trends so popular nowadays rather than marking an earnest attempt to bring the character to life. Her appearance in Nextwave showcased a longer face and lips that were pursed most of the time...thin even. That fact coupled with the vapid look on her mug which definitely stands in stark contrast to the often scowling/screaming face of the character, make this a mild miss.

I'm happy for Sif, but that fig doesn't try very much to hide it's hodgepodge roots in previous Angela/Enchantress/and now Loki parts. I know that's to expected, but this feels very "mailed in." Sif deserved much better.

...and She Hulk...man I didn't wait all this time for that. It isn't TERRIBLE, but again, empty vacuous looks hurt many of Hasbro's latest offerings. I get that they wanted to avoid the grinning look that adorned the previous iteration, but Hasbro could have done better than this newest version. Funny how Phoenix gets three heads with two looking very similar to one another. The budget-line for one of those heads could've been better used here...

I'll be grabbing this set, of course, but there is some disappointment. No wonder the official photos were so fuzzy and distant looking. I said this back when Hasbro announced "more figs than EVER before," but too much of a good thing goes bad quickly when missteps begin to outpace inspired work.

hasbroherofan 05-01-2017 07:08 AM

Looking at Sif again, it seems she's made up a lot of reused parts. Nothing shocking but I am kinda bummed she was such an afterthought. She's always been one of my faves.

Monica Rambeau looks great.

Is Odinson Thor on the Hyperion body?

Dr Kain 05-01-2017 07:10 AM

Sif is probably the only one from the 6 pack I want, so I will just wait until TRU clearances off the box set for like $40.

TheBlueMarvel 05-01-2017 07:11 AM

@hasbro

Please stop repeating things I've said previously...;)

I completely agree about the vacent looks the A-Force set has. She Hulk and Elsa look particularly hypnotized. None of the figures look "great" IMO but I will take an alright Monica over none (she is the main one I want from the set). Agree with you on Singularity, I could think of many others I'd rather see, but it is what it is. Sif and Loki I'm neutral on. Honestly, She Hulk looks the worst out of the bunch, which is odd considering is is probably the best known of all of them (if we remove Loki's recognition due to the gender swap.)

hasbroherofan 05-01-2017 07:43 AM

I have to admit, I don't care about the character but Bor looks pretty nice. In fact a lot better than the Odin BAF.

Let's see if Hasbro's Monica tries to assassinate Thomas Wayne Batman ;)

It should, since they're the same body. But Hasbro also makes some really boneheaded decisions sometimes, so who knows?

Yeah, the first SDCC Thor had a lightning surge deco. Was it ever confirmed that Lady Thor and Odinson were actually a part of the Ragnarok wave or did that information only come from the rumored wave line up?

Monica's the strongest of the bunch, by far. And the fig looking like Sonequa, is a good thing; she's a mighty fine looking woman. I'm just disturbed by my, now precient, statements regarding the over-saturation of Legends within the toy market. Hasbro is producing fewer killer apps. I'm cheered by the commitment to taking chances on lesser known heroes/villains, but fewer offerings and a bump-up in quality would be preferable. Much like the ubiquitous nature of superhero flicks and the cottage industry (as a whole) coming perilously close to turning off viewership; Hasbro needs to determine whether sacrificing quality for quantity is the best course for maintaining success. As the sheer number of releases force collectors to be more frugal and deliberate with their purchases, figure duds become more readily apparent, which could serve to bring about exactly the opposite response Hasbro was hoping to elicit in consumers.

@Symbi

I see whut you did there! ;)

@hasbro

I also see what you did there...I'm well familiar with copycats, I just thought you were an original content/thought sort of person...I wuz wrong. ;):p:cool:

hasbroherofan 05-01-2017 08:50 AM

At least two separate rumored/"leaked" line-ups listed Thor in it but didn't specify it was female. Hasbro also showed off an official image of the figure and I don't know if they've ever done that so far in advance for an exclusive before.

Blue, I here what you are saying. Quality may not matter to scalpers, but to collectors, I think it matter a great deal. That is why I have been cherry-picking MLs waves for a while now. And, I no I complained about remolds, but when quality is taking into account, the remolds can be great figures. But, I see that Hasbro is being just a bit lazy in the quality depart, and plentiful in the quantity depart. Smart man told me one, "cheap gets expensive!" If Hasbro keeps decreasing there quality on the figures, I will keep decreasing my purchases of ML's, and I'm sure others will not purchase poor quality ML's figures as well, leading to lost profits for Hasbro!...For example, IMO, DreadKnight is a great example of a retooled figure, and you can tell someone put some thought into making him...Bad example, Ultimate Spiderman and the Spiderman from Spidey/Vulture 2 pack, I don't think someone was thinking very much when they made this decision! (Hasbro Executive probably said this!) Oh, I know, lets paint Spiderman in brighter color, little accessories, and stick him in a 2 pack with Vulture (which is a great figure, IMO!). Sorry for my rant, but sometimes Hasbro makes it easy for the collector to see the decrease in quality.

If I had to guess I'd say yes. At least that is what I made my custom one from.

"Cheap gets expensive," is the perfect example here. When Hasbro made the announcement that they had planned the largest catalog of figure releases in both incarnations of the Legends brand, I opined with another Arker that this could portend some not so great things for collectors. It's inevitable that when you up product count, you invariably run the risk of a reduction in craftsmanship. Did any of us think that Hasbro would exponentially increase the operating budget to accommodate "more" figs than ever before? That's a pipe-dream and not reflective of how business models tend to work. Undoubtedly, Hasbro execs had dollar signs rolling around in their heads when they saw the excitement the Legends line was generating and figured they could up their profit by increasing the wares. They could be headed for a pretty ugly fiscal face-plant if they don't prioritize quality and juxtapose that concept with the economic reality of many collectors worldwide.

Whether it's less detail, fewer accessories, or complete reproduction of inferior versions of previously released figs (as Trivial passionately and correctly pointed out a few pages back)...we are seeing the telltale signs of brand over-reach...IMO

Jackieboy 05-01-2017 10:29 AM

SDCC legends exclusive just leaked all cred goes to ultimate toy collector for this info!!!

Agree with this completely, and I'm one of the ones who said either late last year or early this year, I'd much rather have 5-6 QUALITY waves than 7--who knows how many?? waves that give us repeat figures, reduced quality, reused parts, etc etc. I wouldn't want to go back to Toybiz days of 3 waves a year or anything but I think one every month would be perfectly fine, if they were all really great waves (taking into account you'd need one "core" character in each wave that's redone.

By the time you include exclusives for SDCC, brick and mortar, two packs, and the like we could even with 7 wves be looking at nearly 70 figures a year if not more. If they were all great that would be fantastic, but we know there's no way they're all going to be winners.

TheBlueMarvel 05-01-2017 10:51 AM

@Jackieboy

Not a prob, I was just giving a heads up...

@Nash

I remember that. Actually, I think you, me, and Von had ongoing dialogues about exactly this subject...a few times over...

Spyne98 05-01-2017 02:37 PM

Watch Hasbro have 2 Thor waves in store for us. The second wave they won't announce until after SDCC but it will include a lot of that box set. But by then, it'll be too late and I will have overpaid for the set haha.

Harbinger 05-01-2017 02:48 PM

I hope ulik and thor ( not fosthor....the REAL thor ) are in a thor wave as those are the only two i want.

I've been messing around with my Homemade Spidey figure, and I'm just not happy with it at all. I may end up getting rid of it. It's such a lackluster figure. I should have seen the writing on the wall.

It's not that I don't like this costume, I love it, I just think this figure doesn't capture it well. It's very cheap looking.

Unfortunately that's how a lot of Hasbros figures look. One thing I truly miss from Toybiz was their paint apps. Just compare
