Catching up on what I missed this weekend... good to see that my 'befriend the staff' tactics have helped you out, TBM! Still waiting on the phone call from our Walgreens lady saying that Sue's arrived, but I wouldn't be surprised to get it sometime this week.
Triv - Thanks for giving the rundown on the Mantis wave. The ones you have the highest praise for are the ones we were planning on getting, thankfully (Adam Warlock, Gamora, Nebula, and Mantis). Terrible to see the problems with your Ex Nihilo though. We stopped by our local TRU this weekend, chatted it up with our favorite manager. He said that none of the San Diego stores have started getting the Spidey/MJ pack yet, though he knows they've shown up in some LA stores. Didn't sound like they're slated for delivery this week, either. Hopefully they'll be in his order list by this coming weekend, though. |
@Boy Blunder. Thanks for reading that wall of text of mine...lol. If Mantis had come with an accessory, she would have been my favorite figure in the wave. She's just barely edged out by the other two ladies, although Adam...or should I say Magus, is making a play for my fave of the wave...
Here's a couple of close up shots so you can see how the faces do get somewhat distorted a bit up close. Now, these were shot with a Note 5 that has been dropped by my two year old, so bear in mind there is some limits to how close I can get with it, but it should give you a better idea of what we're looking at. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...522_150246.jpg You can see in the first shot how Gamora's features become a bit more fuzzy around the the eyes and lips. This might be because they use golden or silver metallics on top of the green plastic, but they have a bit of shimmer and throw it off up close. It also appears that some of the details on her forehead and left side of her face were printed just slightly off their mark, throwing it off a little bit. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...522_150156.jpg Nebula escapes this trap by having contrasting colors, plus the lack of pupils on the character helps hide the fuzziness a bit...though there is some, more along the side of the head where the techo-bits start. http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...522_150222.jpg Mantis on the other hand, is has very little in terms of paint apps, just some simple black (which I had to touch up a bit around the eyebrows) some thinner, brown eyebrows, and some peach on the lips, making me believe that there was nothing in the way of dot-matrixing being done here. The less is more approach works though, giving her that doll like appearance she had in the movie. And finally a group shot of the lovely ladies of the galaxy... http://i79.photobucket.com/albums/j1...522_150457.jpg One other minor gripe about Gamora that I realized setting this simple shot up...she cannot lay her right arm (facing you) down towards her side the way she can her left, leaving it jutting outwards at an angle. I thought it was the coat itself that was doing this, but I honestly think that it's the mold, as the coat has no effect on the for-mentioned left arm whatsoever. |
Whoa...No. Bueno.

Ouch, that fuzziness looks terrible on Gamora. I am actually really glad I do not care about getting the cinematic figures after seeing that.

I like the Mantis...something about the fig makes me wish they'd port some of those parts to a Sersi fig...something about the tunic, sleeves, and coat-tail/skirt. |
I know people are torn over the face-printing thing, and while I don't agree with those who say it looks bad on Marvel Legends, I can see why they do. But honestly, if they started doing this with Star Wars: The Black Series, it would be a vast improvement. TBS has always had worse facepaint that Legends, so instead of it being two techniques with roughly equal pros and cons, it would just be an improvement.

Honestly, I'll take that Gamora sculpt over the 2014 Gamora every time. Slight flaws and all.
Loving Adam Warlock, as well. Touched up ever so slightly to make him more gold than orange. https://68.media.tumblr.com/7ee75727...o6_r1_1280.jpg https://68.media.tumblr.com/b3dbf296...o3_r1_1280.jpg https://68.media.tumblr.com/061c1b09...o7_r1_1280.jpg Bonus: https://68.media.tumblr.com/42e84df7...o8_r2_1280.jpg |
look who came in the mail today and i already did a custom/tweak to this figure lol i think its overkill to have 2 x's so i blacked out the belt buckle. took off the leg straps, too much yellow.

Found the Spidey/MJ set today. It wasn't with the rest of the Marvel Legends, but on an Spider-man: Homecoming end-cap near the front of the store.

Nice pic, Red! Looking forward to finding it. Are you in the North East?

Toys R Us just shipped out my MJ/Spidey 2-pack. Very exciting!
Not yet sure what to do with this new Spidey. I've already got Pizza Spidey, SDCC McFarlane Spidey, both Hasbro Black Suit Spideys, both versions of Ultimate Spider-Man and now this one if we're talking strictly comic book versions of Pete. I dig the new costume though, unfortunately, like with most modern costumes, the look likely won't stay around for too long for me to consider it an iconic Spidey costume. MJ, on the other hand, is long overdue, and I hope she's a stepping stone to seeing more civilian characters. Would I buy a highly articulated Aunt May figure? Hell yes. |

I didn't know Nebula had the one weird robot arm thing... that kinda makes me not want to get her anymore. LOL. Her facesculpt is still bada** though.
