New arrival today- I swapped the greens to get 2 more blues (since green doesn't technically show up anywhere in Phase 2 armor I didn't feel the need to add them to the army)

Made an Appo head last night judt for the heck of it.

A quick excerpt from the review thread that I do over at

Star Wars- Elite Series: Kylo Ren

http://i129.photobucket.com/albums/p...psakyieoli.jpg

I have never been so pleasantly surprised with a figure in my 20 plus years of collecting. Disney Elite series has really hit it out of the park with this figure and I can only hope that there are more awesome releases to come.

If you are reading this, having no clue that Disney released a line of 10” Star Wars figures exclusive to their Disney Stores, you are certainly not alone. I recall seeing a small news item on the Toyark about it, but thought it was simply scaled up versions of their Die-Cast line (which is lacking in my opinion, so imagine my surprise when I saw Kylo on the shelf. Question, would calling him Kylo for short, be like calling Darth Vader just ‘Darth’ like Obiwan did in ep4, or the now more clear ‘Vader’ that we have come to use? Is Ren like a salutation? Hmmm. Anyways, in the box he looked pretty detailed, had some decent accessories and boasted or 30 points of articulation; all for around $45, no bad at all. Incidentally I had been eyeing the new 12” Marvel Legends pretty hard, but while they offer perhaps a bit more detail, they also $70 a pop and not exactly flying off the shelf. Maybe when they are discounted, but i'm not ready to bite just yet.

I know that some collectors tend to stay away from large figures and as space is limited that is understandable, but out of the box he really doesn't feel like a 'doll', but more so a scaled up 6” black series; it's pretty impressive actually. Some other impressions of him include: an amazing cloak with 3 separate layers, two sets of hands (fists and action) and a great deal of usable articulation. They even included wire in the hood and weights in the clock to allow the cloth to sit properly.

However, it's not without flaws. First issue was right out of the box as I literally had to strip him down to get access to the waste twist-tie holding him in place in the package; pretty frustrating if I'm being honest. Another issue is the head/neck joint. There looks to be a ball joint at the base of the neck, but nothing at the neck/skull connection. It's not a huge problem, but certainly limits head movement. And finally, while all together the cloth hood and cloak look decent, but are quite bulky if you remove the hood. Not a big deal as I will not display without, but it certainly has some hallmarks of the downsides of soft goods. The lightsaber also came with a slight bend out of the box, but I understand it happens.

Overall, it's a great figure for the price and I think it's the step in the right direction for these Disney Store exclusives. I have already picked up Vader, but I may stop short of the more human characters as I'm not a big fan of the real hair.

Pros: Great likeness and overall look, good articulation and accessories, decent price.

Cons: Cloth costume is fairly bulky.

My local TRU recently received a couple cases too. The panic over them seems like a repeat of last year's unwarranted TRU Snowtrooper frenzy, lol.

And speaking of plentiful exclusives, i just spotted at least 25 Scarif Stormtroopers at a local Wal-Mart tonight, and then another dozen or so at a "middle of nowhere" Wal-Mart near me.
And, I spotted quite a few last night when I snagged mine.

These guys may be exclusives, but hopefully anyone who wants these will be able to find them with little hassle, unlike most of Wal-Mart's other recent Star Wars Black exclusives :p

BBTS just got the Revan, Sabine wave in.

Robb 12-11-2016 05:42 PM

Just got my order delivered today from dorkside . The new figures look great.

En Sabah Nerd 12-12-2016 06:16 PM

I had to go out of my local area for some errands today and while in the area I went into a Thinkgeek store and found them stocking this.
http://i853.photobucket.com/albums/a...pszigmajy7.jpg
This wasn't everything this was just the box on the ground waiting to be on the pegs. They had like six of every figure in the new wave except for Revan and Sabine. I already knew I wanted the AT-AT pilot and Snowtrooper so I picked up the best looking ones they had as Christmas gifts for myself. I looked over the other two figures with some care though and just couldn't justify getting either of them. Leia looks pretty much as bad as I'd feared (some were downright hideous with lazy eyes and sloppy hair/mouth paint) which is a shame since it is her original look. Maybe we'll get a Hoth Leia later that can make up for this disappointment. Ben just looked kinda bland on the spot, not bad but not great either.

Ben Kenobi is only interesting in the flaw that Chefatron had with his first one. A joint was molded into the elbow hinge as a singular piece somehow. It was weird.

Man I just ordered the Leia figure off BBTS two days ago, just shipped this morning...but I know to look forward to a possible wrecked face, at least.

I picked up Space Venom BAF Silk finally, but it's still sitting in my trunk cos' I'm too sissy to run out in the cold to bring it in the house.

If you have one of those little areas in the backseat that allows you to access the trunk, you could slowly pull them out over time. This would allow for only short exposures to cold weather.

Though legit, send some of that weather over to Alabama. It's hot for some reason, so we need it.

Madame Warlock 12-13-2016 01:30 PM

Thinking of catching up with Star Wars Rebels over Christmas when I'm down parents so probs going to get back into the toys. I need a couple of spare Lightsabers as I lost my Ashoka's ones. Any idea where I can get a few just to have them in general ?THey're fun props in general.

En Sabah Nerd 12-16-2016 03:30 PM

Just got this in from BBTS and it feels pretty damn good to not have to hunt for these now. I got them for my Christmas haul though so I'll just have to wait to open them but they both look good in box already which is already great.

Does it count as hiding if one puts a Scarif trooper in one of those red things Wal-mart puts the cheap crap in? 'Cause I saw that today, and am kinda questioning why...

Also got mistaken for an employee today, despite wearing a black Stormtrooper T-shirt. Guess I just look employable?

I was also mistaken for one recently even though I was wearing a coat.

I really wish I could find those new 3.75" black figures. Unfortunately the reissue cases have flooded the pegs.

Bo Ttef 12-16-2016 06:01 PM

Yeah, I took a look at the Black Series they had there, and it was all FA figures. Namely, Han, Leia, and Phasma. Oh, and that Darth Vader from a few waves back that doesn't really look all that worth it. Only Rogue One stuff was 6 inch Black Series, 5 POA, and etc.

Not that I was shopping for myself, anyway. I just made a stop because I like to look at stuff I can't buy right now(it's weird, I know). Otherwise, I would've grabbed the FA 3po and Artoo two pack they had. It's 5 POA line, sure, but for those characters, it works.

Dr Kain 12-16-2016 11:45 PM

So when is the Black Series Vader coming out?

I believe the next wave now that the Revan set is out will be the next Rogue One guys which might include the new Vader. At the NYCC panel they showed images of Baze, Chirrut, Vader, Krennic, and the Shoretrooper leader and those last two are available now. We've also been shown Hera, Tusken raider, Lando, Qui-Gon, and the Royal guard since SDCC but it's possible Hasbro will release the RO stuff sooner to capitalize on the movie's release.

Dr Kain 12-17-2016 09:11 AM

Well that's what I'm trying to figure out. Why show a new Vader off if you aren't going to have him out by the time the movie hits? That's just dumb.

Perhaps they'll get him out around January. I learned back when Bionicle relaunched that toy companies will sometimes pull crap like that since obviously parents are drained after Christmas, and so they need to release something to attract collectors in order to help them before things balance out.

I THINK that's how it goes anyway.

TheBlueMarvel 12-17-2016 01:46 PM

Amazing shots Bo Ttef!
