The more I look at that Black Panther wave the sadder I get, over the missed opportunities. also because I'm probably winding down on most MCU/standard Marvel legends here in the next few months due to a variety of reasons - getting a new house and the payment that goes along with that, but also because there's simply not that much left to do.

I kind of figured it was likely that the Black Panther wave would be among the last non-X-Men related wave I would be fully interested in, aside from a figure here or there (or special groups like Thunderbolts/Alpha Flight), and it's looking to be a major disappointment instead.

AH well, I guess this fall will be the turning point for me. There are always the X-Men related sets and waves though. And of course a figure here and there from each wave I'm sure. And any Thunderbolts/New Warriors/Alpha Flight and villains they make. Just saying as far as interest in an entire wave. There's still a ton of figures they could do but on the other hand it feels like there's not a ton left they will do, if they only add in 1-2 fan favorites each wave.

Maybe the rumors are false. I'd love for that wave to be awesome.

Even I couldn't answer this, and while I'm no expert, I'm also no spring chicken either.

And that's not a dig at Black Panther. It's simply the truth.

I'm sure Hasbro realizes this, hence the failure to go deep into his supporting cast. There is a reason that characters like Speed Demon, Female Beetle, Nico, White Tiger, Misty Knight, and Ashley Barton are clogging up toy aisles, and that's because the average person, and even the casual comic fan, has no clue who or what they're looking at, or even the connection to said character.

Yeah, well I guess this is a running trend with Hasbro. Both the Ant-man and Dr. Strange waves got this treatment, but it doesn't mean I have to like it. Oh well, disappointing that I'll have to weed through the Captain America's and Iron Man's again when the eventual Captain Marvel wave hits.:rolleyes:

I'm just joking about busting your chops. I use to think about these sots of things (pun) also, especially with certain heroes and their fragile non-super paramours.

Was watching mallrats earlier, the extended version. Best acting i ever seen affleck do was at the end. ;)

Jerseysteel 06-20-2017 03:18 PM

Decided to skip the exclusive Black panther, I like ToyBizs BP better and I really don't see much different from the Civil War version that I already have.

TheBlueMarvel 06-20-2017 03:21 PM

@Nite

That was one of his better outings...it convinced/fooled people into believing he could act. :p I did like Argo, Gone Girl, and the Accountant tho...

Well when he meets his "new friend in jail" is the scene to which i refer, though the full one is only on the extended cut and much much funnier. Hint....it ain't the back of a volkswagon. ;)

Boy Blunder 06-20-2017 03:35 PM

I have yet to see a rumored "wave" without a set of matching UPC numbers turn out to be 100% legit, so I'm not putting any stock in that BP wave.

Especially since there's good odds that Thing will get a Walgreens release next year, and we just got a White Tiger (sure, there's multiple White Tigers, but still).

@Nite

Uhh...oh, now I see...maybe Ben's got an untapped future in niche pron??? ;)

Captain Nash 06-20-2017 04:17 PM

If anyone has both the Beetle and Vulture opened could we see if the head for Vulture fits onto the Beetle neck peg? Trying to think of a way to cobble together a Mach II or IV with repaints...Thanks in advance! To be honest that's the ONLY reason I'd buy that Vulture figure.

That's a horrible line up. I could understand The Thing being a BAF since BP was a member of the FF after Civil War (in duds very similar to the new WM exclusive) and Hasbro would want him to be a BAF because of the cost to make him. But the others just don't have place there. They just did Namor last year and I don't think the female version of White Tiger was enough of a hit to require the male version of the character.

MCU BP in his new costume, Storm, T'Challa's sister as BP, and Klaw make for a better fit in a Black Panther wave.

Cool gif, I actually remember that episode...

I'm pretty sure Hasbro is warming up to it. I'd say that the Walgreens exclusive Sue is likely being used to test the waters, but given that it is an 'exclusive,' analyzing sales metrics from a limited run seems counter-intuitive. Personally, I believe Hasbro's intention is to return to FF just as they have the X-men, regardless of how these test runs (upcoming Human Torch) preform, if that's what they are. We will all get the Doom we crave...it's inevitable.

Fantastic Four is in a bad place right now, thanks in no small part to the movies. It's hard to get people excited for figures when the movie(s) most people would associate them with bomb so badly.

Same here. Most of what I know about Black Panther comes from Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes.

Dude hell yes! Total Illuminati wave. Hope Namor is classic green trunks. We need a better classic Iron Man sculpt as well. Plus, Thing BAF!!!

Just some nice little accessories for added flavor and to give the figure more varied display options. A slice of pizza, a camera, and a web effect piece would really have been nice to see.

That actually looks pretty cool

Really annoying though. I have no desire for the others but I will likely have to buy them or wait to get the wing I want because I do have vulture. He is my favorite of the wave.

Beetle is standing on a box and appears closer to the camera.

I did not think I'd like The Vulture this much, but my hat is off to Hasbro. These 3 figures are a beautiful addition to my collection.

Archangel 06-20-2017 07:28 PM

Went hunting today. No new waves in my area, but I did score a Scarlet Witch from the Abomination wave at a Walgreens.

redfox 06-20-2017 08:41 PM

@Panther

Nice collection and display! I love how you have all the figures sectioned off by the movies/phases of the MCU. Looks great!

No disagreement on the FF movies. However, the X-movies have had poor outings also. Nothing comparable as far as the nadir that represents the FF film franchise as a whole, but not all of the X-flicks were resounding box office wins. When you look at recent X-men fig success, it has been achieved largely on the strength of comic fandom. All the characters are comic canon with nary an MCU to be found (Old Man Logan was the closest, but not really). I'll give you that there has been some timing that's coincided with the films, but the numbers of movie-fan tie-in buyers are likely marginal since virtually all of the selected characters are unrecognizable to the casual fan. I see the Fantastic Four succeeding in a similar fashion. If the open secret moratorium on Marvel properties not in the the stable of Marvel Studios is over, which it appears to be, then I can't see any reason preventing green lighting FF figs. If I have a Titus, I can have a Kl'rt. I have a Darkhawk, I can also have a Silver Surfer. I truly suspect good news is coming on the FF front.
