Nothing comparable as far as the nadir that represents the FF film franchise as a whole, but not all of the X-flicks were resounding box office wins. When you look at recent X-men fig success, it has been achieved largely on the strength of comic fandom. All the characters are comic canon with nary an MCU to be found (Old Man Logan was the closest, but not really). I'll give you that there has been some timing that's coincided with the films, but the numbers of movie-fan tie-in buyers are likely marginal since virtually all of the selected characters are unrecognizable to the casual fan. I see the Fantastic Four succeeding in a similar fashion. If the open secret moratorium on Marvel properties not in the the stable of Marvel Studios is over, which it appears to be, then I can't see any reason preventing green lighting FF figs. If I have a Titus, I can have a Kl'rt. I have a Darkhawk, I can also have a Silver Surfer. I truly suspect good news is coming on the FF front.

But the X-Men have a lot of media to pull in new fans. Several ongoing comic book series, a recenct string of successful movies (although I didn't care for AoA that much), and three different cartoon series that are avaible on disc, digital, or streaming. The Fantastic Four aren't that lucky right now since their comic has been canceled, the movies haven't been that great, and the only FF cartoon series available for purchase is the one from 1994. The Fantastic Four need representation of some kind. A new animated series could pull in a lot of new fans and get people excited for new toys. Believe me, I want Hasbro to start making FF Legends. Especially if they gave us interchangeable parts to show off their powers in use like the Fantastic Four minimates from a few years ago did (I know they're from a different company but those minimates are still pretty cool). And more importantly, I NEED a new figure of The Thing.

So looks like Dark Phoenix is now available. One person at TFW found the pack today at their TRU. I hope mine gets it in soon because the wait is killing me.

Oh, and even though some have been able to snag it because it was put on the shelves early, some are reporting that managers aren't selling them that dark phoenix 2pack because it has a street date of 8/1.

Nice collection and display! I love how you have all the figures sectioned off by the movies/phases of the MCU. Looks great!

Thank you very much! I have every MCU figure released, and I'm trying my hardest to tell a story with my display. I'm Mr. Movie Figure Collector, and proud of it! Bring on the next 6 movies.

Thanks for the info! Urrrgh on the actual info but at least knowing that helps!

Hemanguy 06-21-2017 06:29 AM

I was able to pick up the Dark Phoenix two pack yesterday. However, it required a manager override and they pulled the rest of the two packs from the floor. The Phoenix head sculpts are amazing!

Check the paint around Cyclops visor, under it there were different amounts of paint from his blue mask, they all looked great but one of the the visor was glued just a hair crooked.

Scored an old toy biz jack o lantern today from a local comic shop. This is one that, to me at least, stands up to todays stuff, especislly given how weak the broom stick riding one was.

I get what you are saying, I just don't think that ancillary media is all that necessary for selling FF figs. They aren't a completely unknown commodity and based on the excitement that Sue attracted, there are quite a few people anticipating and waiting for a rebirth. And that doesn't even touch the figs from the expanded FF tree that would be received equally well (if not to an even greater degree) such as Dr. Doom and Silver Surfer. But, of course, you are entitled to your opinion.

Ah Jack'O Lantern, the villain I thought that looked pretty cool and was going to be a cool villain, especially since he became the Hobogoblin I grew up with, and the dude turned out to be nothing more than a complete worthless weakling in the issue I just recently read. To say I was disappointed is an under statement.

QUESTION:

The new up and coming Cyclops and Phoenix 2-pck...
Are these both just repaints??..and the jean comes with diff heads??

TheBlueMarvel 06-21-2017 11:40 AM

@Dark

There will be part reuse for both, of course. But Cyclops should have boot cuffs (probably donated from some Cap fig - Zemo/Bucky Cap, maybe) and the cowl & visor should be different (maybe they'll use the First Class Box Set Cyclops? - that may work if they don't go the retool route). And as you said, the Dark Phoenix heads are new.

Dark Phoenix also has flat feet, rather than the wedge-heels that standard Phoenix has.

That's very good to hear. Hopefully, we'll be seeing the end of the silly wedge and sillier high-heel.

Ghost Rider appreciation...

@Panther

Well, it definitely looks nice! Curious side-note: are you going to dip into the Netflix figures?

@TheBlueMarvel

Love your shots, you've got a way with breathing life into the figures. Also, love those colors!

@AnyoneWhoWillListen

Does anyone know if Valkyries' hands are compatible with the wrists of the new Mary Jane figure??

Yah...i can see that too. Still someone give him a cowbell. MORE COWBELL!

Bo Ttef 06-21-2017 02:24 PM

Lol- Patton was probably the closest!

Now that I've opened and messed around with all the Homecoming figs.

1. SpiderMan (MCU\SU) - meh. Actually looks like it could be from a non-Legends line. Could have been a pass.
2. SpiderMan-Homemade suit - meh. Unless the movie makes this worthy, it's another one that could have been a pass.
3. Cosmic SpiderMan - I actually like this one and am keeping the non spidey head, the one the matches the suit, on the body.
4. Beetle - Another one I like. Gonna put him on a flight stand.
5. Vulture - This figure is actually okay as well, with the BAF wings. Now I see why they had to be so light (cheap feeling) or else this thing would have been way too heavy. I'd like to get this suspended in air. Plus I like building up the movie universe characters.
6. Tombstone - He's okay. Good addition for part of the Spidey Criminals. Never followed him to heavy in the comics.
7. Moon Knight - I know everyone likes this one. But I'm not a huge fan. Don't really know this costume all that well and it looks a smidge cheesey to me.

I haven't gotten anybody but moon knight so far, however i wish tombstone had a black suit on or his 90s grey bdu pants with black shirt. This collared suit with the hugh chest opening kinda looks ehh to me.

that probably would have been a better look..but prob required more tooling or whatever on Hasbro's part..

*EDIT*

just looked at past images of Tombstone. That DEFINITELY WOULD HAVE BEEN A BETTER LOOK...IMO

This week's haul. Really love Death Head, fun figure to pose. Nihlo is boring lol and Nebula seems fragile the way she's made.
