Thanks! I ditched the blast effects for Shocker in favor of the twist ties a while back, as I felt they worked better for the classic look. I ended up giving the effects to Adam Warlock for his Magus look. Quote:
The price for these I feel is about right. I paid about 60 bucks for mine, and I feel that's a better deal than most of the Mafex/Figuarts stuff out there, especially because he came with so many options. The hands, psycho effects, stand, background, skirts, heads...there is so much here that it puts most of my import purchases to shame. Plus, he is poseable as hell, I could even get him to do a Psycho Crusher! About the only things that bug me is that the arms pop off a little easier than I would like (I'm used to that though with import figs, so it is not a deal breaker) and that the size is a bit larger than I thought it would be. His height is more Ura Rugal or T.Hawk than it is Bipson's stocky 5'11". I love my SOTA Toys Bipson, but make no mistake, this is the best Bipson! |
Well, it's official: the Homecoming Wave has hit Target. Traveled to two Wal-Marts and Toys R Us to find the Homecoming Wave and/or X-Men two-pack. Was on my way to the comic book shop as a last resort and on a whim decided to stop by Target and found this.

Are you sure that just wasn't a return someone bought from somewhere else?

I mean, it's certainly possible, but it doesn't make much sense from the returner's perspective. |

https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4278/3...08f99b6f_b.jpg So I managed to order a Moon Knight for $19.99 prime on Amazon a week ago and he finally got delivered (it was a back-order). I love the crap out of Moon Knight (he's easily my favorite comic character) so I knew I'd get this but being such a fan does damper my liking this toy just a little. So first I'll say as a Marvel Legends toy it's pretty fantastic. The colors are very striking (what little variety there is) and sharply done, the articulation scheme is great thanks to the addition of ankle swivels and dice-rolling hinges on his weapon holding hands, and he has a nice assortment of accessories. Those features aren't without flaws though. The shoulder hinge on mine's right shoulder doesn't work 100% because of the armor and the left ankle swivel is stuck while also then being a little hard to work with because of the rest of the ankle articulation. In the accessory department then while the smaller moon blades are nicely done and the feature where they fit into the fist hands is cool they can be hard to fit in without knocking another out of place and then with their tiny size I feel like I'll lose them unless I put them away safely. Everything else though is great. The cape, the hood, the larger crescent, and alternate hands are nicely handled. Even the truncheons which are often goofy looking when combined into their "staff" form work much better here than they have before thanks to the new wrist joints. So it's a really cool and well done toy but as a Moon Knight fan I can't help but feel a tad disappointed because of the costume they chose to make such a good figure of. This costume isn't a badly designed look or anything but it's just not at all what I think of when I think Moon Knight off the top of my head. I think of the classic all silver and white costume, or his incredibly awesome Mr Knight look from recent years, hell I even think of the gold accessorized semi-classic look or his Secret Avengers armored suit before this "crescents everywhere!" suit comes to mind. A big part of that is because this suit doesn't really appear all that much in the comics. This suit was introduced around 2014 and in all the time from then to now he's only worn it like 8 or so times, it's pretty much just been Mr Knight or even the classic suit as of late. He did wear this in the Spidey cartoon so this will be the look that kids will more likely know but it's clear that these figures aren't just given the looks that show up in the cartoons so it's not like Moon Knight had to have this look. Also maybe had he not used this look then the shoulders would have total access to their movement. My only other note is that the bio on the back feels really dumbed down to me, too much so, like it's been made overly safe or something. Instead of saying that he died and was brought back by an Egyptian god to be Moon Knight it just says that he had a vision which led him to do it. Is dying and coming back too edgy for toys to mention now? It's not 100% wrong but it bothers me for some reason. I don't even mind the lack of mentioning his mental condition compared to the way they worded his origin. https://c1.staticflickr.com/5/4052/3...a32645d8_b.jpg |
@En Sabah Nerd - the costume choice is likely due to the fact that this version has been used in media outside the comics - specifically, this is the costume MK wears in his Ultimate Spider-Man animated appearances, as well as the Contest of Champions and Future Fight mobile games. As we've seen throughout the current iteration of the line, Hasbro likes to go with looks that will appeal to a wider audience, and will pepper the comics choices with ones inspired by external media (IE Taskmaster, Iron Skull, etc). This way, people who aren't specifically comic fans will still recognize this as MK.
Also, it might've been easier to sell the figure (both to stores and to consumers) when he's not a big block of white. Lastly, the whole Mr. Knight look seems much more suited for a Select release, IMO. |
