Dunno if I'm missing something, but why do people ALWAYS place bids when it's still like 6 days left for the auction? They always end up jacking the price up for no good reason - wouldn't you want the item for a little as possible? Or is it like some kind of hidden code of honor for the product's value or something? Like reaching a minimum threshold - which I doubt.

In fact, some people are complete morons. I've seen items go for more than current listings for Buy It Now items. For example, there'll be a bid war on Giganta ending around $170 and there's a Buy It Now for like $100. It's like, if I saw it creep even close to $100 and I was willing to buy it for $100, I'd just buy it for $100. What point am I proving by smiting other bidders? What a bunch of haks. They just get caught up in the whole mania of it all.

I think the reason I used to bid so early on ebay auctions was because I was actually hoping no one else would bid on it. Now if I saw it already had bids, I'd go in and pull a little snipe job at the last minute if the price suited my needs.

Cause sometimes you just never know. There was a Spawn ally playset going for a buy it now price of 25. bidding started at 15 I won it at 20. So I saved 5 bucks playing the waiting game. For some it's just about price and waiting. If they can wait they will bid. If they truly need it right away and is willing to pay the buy it now price i say go for it. But I rarely ever need things that soon. So I bid If it goes past what I am willing to pay oh well. I let it go. and wait for the next one. Also doesn't buy it now disappear after someone makes the first bid? Or is this only on some items. Cause I know once I placed the bid for the the spawn alley. They Buy it now option went away.

^ Yup. Once you place a bid on an item that also has Buy It Now then the BIN options goes away.

That's usually what happens. I think the seller can also put a reserve price on it so that even though there's bidding going on, the BIN stays available too. Not very common, but I've seen it happening there enough.

That isn't what I meant. What I'm saying is that there are times when there are other items from other sellers at a lower Buy It Now price than their final bid price. They could've just bought the Buy It Now from someone else for less but for whatever reason chose to battle it out.

Example JohnnySeller59 has Giganta with a starting price of .99 in a 7 Day Auction, TimmySeller83 has a Buy It Now for Giganta at $100, 6 and a half days past and Giganta is at around $86, closing minutes of the auction, people go nuts, 10 minutes left, it goes to $98, 1 minute left, it goes to $160?? Finally ends at $170ish. Ok.. Did no one bother checking in the last 7 days the auction with the Giganta at a Buy It Now for $100??
