Aye. And on top of that, Green Lantern is something that *could* be seen as very cheesie and campy to someone who doesn't have the slightest idea of what it's about, or the potential it has.

I believe Bruce Timm said that in Justice League, they decided to have John Stewart use almost exclusively simple tools. Fields, bubbles, and energy beams, instead of the constructs that GLs are so well known for, for that very reason. He didn't want it coming off as cheesie.

So, it could be hard to tell if someone doesn't like it because they secretly think "Giant fists?!? That's so stoopid!" Or if they have genuine critical issues with the story/acting/what-have-you.

I'm not gonna let anyone influence my opinion, except the movie itself.
And besides, I figure that if *I* enoy the movie, who cares if everyone else hates it?

blasekbh 06-16-2011 07:37 PM

I still have high hopes. Most of the reviews I saw blamed a lot on Ryan Reynolds, who I have always enjoyed. Others seemed to complain about the heavy CGI but how can you have a good GL movie with out... I enjoyed The Dark Knight and Iron Man while Thor and First Class I felt was meh. Rotten Tomatoes also gave First Class an 87% and Green Lantern a 22%... so obviously their opinion of a good movie differs from mine. Either way the movie opens an hour and a half from now and I will still be sitting there with glee as I have loved this character since I was 5.

Crazy Jetty 06-16-2011 08:09 PM

the key to movie critics, is to find one who's taste in movies mirrors your own.

Snowflakian 06-16-2011 09:01 PM

I think the only complaint against the movie I truly agree with is how much information it attempts to shovel down an audience's throat within the confines of 105 minutes. Making most characters have at most 10 minutes worth of scenes combined together.

The other complaints that sound right, were the uses of CG, but not so much that they used CG, that they used bad CG alongside good CG often in the same scenes.

All in all, from the sounds of it, they needed to up the time to at least 120 minutes, and give more scenes to Hal interacting with the corps as well as better construct usage outside of just one scene.

I'll be seeing it this weekend, will know for sure then.

ersico 06-17-2011 07:55 AM

im seeing it tomorrow at 10am :)

snake5289 06-17-2011 10:37 AM

ersico 06-17-2011 12:42 PM

stay for after credits?
is there somethign to stay for?

snake5289 06-17-2011 01:07 PM

Oh yeah it's an awesome scene and it's a little ways into the credits. Like there are fancy effects credits, scene, then regular credits.

Agreed!

Double agreed!

My main complaint is Sinestro really needed to have a bigger presence. They really needed to build him up more, as the ideal and best lantern.
While I think his eventual betrayal in the next movie will surprise the people who are clueless about the comics, they really needed to make us long time fans care for him as a heroic character. So that even though we know his betrayal is coming, it would still hurt us as the audiance as much as it would hurt Hal, and the other characters. I think we would have gotten a better quality story with ten or twenty minutes longer, to devote to character developement.

Found a 3 3/4" Galius Zed today. He was accompanied by another Hal and fully charged Kilowog.

Ugh! My area may be real good at keeping them moving, and keeping the shelves fresh, but so far they're only good at restocking the first wave.
I've only seen the Guardian sets twice. And nothing from Galius Zed's set. Not even a single carded/basic Tomar Re.

Saint Phe 06-19-2011 02:55 PM

Yeah! There was one basic Tomar Re. I didn't realize he hadn't already been released.

Crazy Jetty 06-19-2011 05:41 PM

If he had, he is completely absent from my area since day one. D:
I've been wanting him, because I don't like the yellow/orange all over him in the deluxe version (Even though I like his construct)

Shin Densetsu 06-19-2011 09:15 PM

Anyone pick up Movie Masters Sinestro and Isamot Kol? They're available at BBTS, wondering if anyone saw them at retail?

yeah, it just doesn't look good to me - saw it made over $52 million but I'd expect a steep drop for next weekend.

It's made 52 mil but cost 200 mil o make and another 125 mil in marketing...
I'm certain it'll at least break even...but that's not what the studios are looking for- they want super profits!

I just saw the deluxe 3.75" Kilowog figure at Target- he's got a metallic paint ap that is waaay better thabn the carded fig. Shiney and bright.

Skullgmo44 06-20-2011 08:29 PM

I really hope Mattel does a repaint of sinestro with a yellow body like in the after credit scene.

Skullgmo44 06-20-2011 08:33 PM

Also can someone tell me if they are coming out with a walmart guardian of the universe two pack with tomar-re and a guardian?

It's possible. There are six in the series, total. So far, I've only seen three, though (And only once). Kilowog and Ranakar, Hal and Sayd, and Sinestro with someone (Not Ganthet, don't remember who).
I don't know who the other three lantern and guardian sets are. But if you've found all six, and Tomar is not among them, then there won't be any more.

stjuggernaut 06-21-2011 04:21 AM

ok as we all know. the stel figure they released is absolute rubbish and i dont understand how anyone ever approved that desin in the first place.

so what does everyone think of the iron man titanium man as a replacement for stel to go with the 3.75 green lantern movie figures? good replacement? or is there someone better???

Good points Jason!

Yeah, I sure wish he'd made Deadpool 1st - that could be a huge franchise if done right IMO.

This was my only issue with the film as well, the second act and final battle seemed entirely too rushed for me and the editing seemed a little choppy like there were scenes that were supposed to be in certain places, but were instead taken out.

stjuggernaut 06-21-2011 02:21 PM

did anyone notice how it made no sense how carol was mad at hal when he took her back to her apartment after revelaing himself, she said something nice to him and then in the next scene she was close to tears, litterally in a second. then 10 minutes later in a flash back when hammond touches hal, we see hal saying to carol "i didnt mean it like that" like he said something to upset her. that should have been in the previous scene for it to make sense.

i dont know if that was intentional by the editors but i though that was absolutely shite of them to cut it like that.

and we STILL dont know what he said that he didnt mean... I WANT TO KNOWWWWWW

I assumed that she was crying because she was upset that Hal was throwing away this wonderful gift life had given him by quitting the GL Corps. Just like he's thrown away every chance that had been offered to him.

And more on topic, I just got an email from BBTS that my preorder for Movie Masters Maskless Hal and Krona are in. So heads up everyone.
