i just read it too.
looks like things took a fraction of a turn for the worse.

in my humble opinion, i don't think fraction should be let anywhere near an event.

i saw him at sdcc a couple of years ago and he was totally rude to a seven year old kid who waited in line to ask a question at the marvel panel. the kid complimented fraction by saying he was his favorite writer and asked him if he would ever write spider-man, who was the kid's favorite character. fraction responded with, "riiiiiight. because i have sooooooo much time as it is."

i couldn't believe my ears. i get possibly being frustrated at some of the questions that some of the adults ask, but this kid was seven! that was pretty poor. and although as a writer i've enjoyed a few of his books like the immortal iron fist with brubaker and some of his x-men run, i thought fear itself was terrible. and i'm a huge marvel zombie.

Thats what happens when nerds treat comic book writers like they're celebrities.

anyhow......ive read the AA and AvX for this week. AA didnt have the confrontation I was expecting and I sure didnt see the gigantic TF: The Movie reference coming either in AvX. But at least it evens the odds on both sides.

ah! i think i missed the reference. what was it? i disliked the ending as it seemed like exactly what happened in fear itself with the "fear itself costumes." new looks without substance. hopefully it will turn out differently.

personally i think the story is moving too fast to comprehend properly. Theres very little build up and the pivotal events just hit u in the face and leaves us all with "WTF?"

not because of what u are seeing, its more of "why is this happening?"

Nice! thanks! This is probably the most important panel in marvel comics in the last three to four years.

Anyways, i don't really like how the x-men were turned into the Worthy. And what happened to the rest of the phoenix force? Ia it still headed to Earth or did it all get sucked into the five?

I thought the worthy were tied to the fear itself hammers and such

we might need to start a new thread about the photo because talking about all the different topics could get out of hand quick

I think Bmorr was just pointing out that transforming heroes is a very recycled idea. Newsarama even dedicated a full article to the trend:

Newsarama.com : Transforming Heroes: The New Event Series Trend?

I actually don't have a problem with transforming heroes so long as its not permanent and way out of reason for that character. Case in point, I didn't mind Nova's (Richard Rider) status quo change after Annihilation because it was a justifiable one. X-23 with Captain Universe powers, like anyone else who ever had them, should never be a permanent thing. I actually like the look of the Phoenix 5 to be completely honest and up until now this entire story line has been very predictable and unsatisfying as a main storyline by itself.

While this twist wasn't enough for me to say it saved the 1st act of this event from being garbage, I can say it prevented it from being predictable and opens up potential for the 2nd act to actually be decent. Guess we'll see what happens. And speaking of Nova...what the hell happened to that new Nova from the infinite comic and beginning of this whole event?

Also @bmorr- the Phoenix basically chose its "hosts" in those five because Iron Man disrupted its opportunity to take hope by shattering its...essence, apparently. Uncanny had some additional insight from that robot who calls itself "unit" and it said it basically set up Hope for failure to see what happens when the Phoenix doesn't get what it wants (ie-throw nature off track).

I'm confused by your quoting me and i really don't know quite how to respond without coming across as myob :) so here goes my best effort. In the pic i posted it says 'who are the worthy' and Bmorr responded saying he didn't like how the 5 x-men became the worthy to which I responded I thought the worthy had to do with the hammers in fear itself. then I made a suggestion that we continue discussion of the pic I posted in another thread as it has the potential to hijack this thread.

I agree about the recycling of stories but comics have been doing this pretty consistently for the last 15 years in a blatant way.

I know. And I'm saying you misinterpreted his response. Yes the worthy were tied to the hammers from The Serpent, and the way they transformed heroes/villains into his avatars of fear and destruction Bmorr was saying, "I don't like how the X-men were turned into the worthy" which he then followed up with a question as to what that did to the Phoenix as a result. He was implying, unless I misinterpreted him, that what marvel just did with the X-Men becoming the "Phoenix 5" is no different from the Worthy.

That was why I quoted you and posted that link. And yes, comics recycle everything. Agreed.

bmorr 06-08-2012 10:09 AM

yeah i guess i was a little confusing, i only meant the Worthy because of the simularity to the last event, in that the heroes were chosen, and their perogatives changed due to uncontrolled outside forces. And, like the last event, this change will lead to nothing and the waves will return to sea just like every event. Oh, and all of one character will die for less than six months.
