GotG 2 had three MCU characters in each wave, plus a BAF. So far if the 6 figure number is accurate BP will be the only MCU figure in his (BP, Black Bolt, Namor, Silver Surfer, Klaw, Shuri). That's not a good look when it is the first Marvel film to have an exclusively black main cast, and Hasbro seem to lack faith figures of those characters would sell and instead stock it with 66% white guys from the comics with only tangential relationship to BP. |

People will know who they are when the film comes out. That is how film merchandising works. The film creates demand. Your logic is absurd.

For me, they could give us all comic version of the movie characters and I would be happy. I'm not a MCU collector in general so that lack would not bother me much. But I feel like Hasbro isn't giving this movie's line the representation and respect it deserves. Now that's just my opinion and you're welcome to another, but telling us that we don't like the wave because it's not MCU shows a misunderstanding of the actual issue we have. Hopefully this has helped to resolve that. FWIW yes I have run parts of Black Panther comics, not a completionist but enough that I don't fall into the whole "only know of Black Panther becuase of CW." I think that's selling this community very far short. I dont' think it really matters if someone's read the book either, one doesn't have to have read the books to recognize the problem with the diversity of the wave, just like one doesn't have to be part of a demographic of people (of any color, creed, etc) to understand there are problems that group faces. I'm also expecting Hasbro may get some mainsteam backlash from this. Which is unfortunate because unlike many situations where an apology and a quick fix will work, you can't do that when it comes to making figures. There is a definite lengthy turnaround time. |

Most regulars here are familiar with my CONSTANTLY stated preference for canon figures. When forced to buy MCU figs for any BAF I might want, I generally end up selling them off shortly after purchase. Months ago, I even sold my MCU Hulk Buster Baf because I determined I had no use for it. I only mention this to disabuse you of the notion that I like MCU figs, I obviously don't care for them. Despite my indifference to the figs, I understand their strategic value in supporting the efforts of the 'real' money maker - the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As a long term gamer - my first systems were the 2600 followed by the Sega Master system...I had a friend that actually owned Pong - I've learned that serving the 'hardcore' fan isn't a winning business proposition. There aren't enough of we hardcore anythings; the profit margin is actually in the causal fan whose numbers dwarf ours. In the case of toys, the casual fans are children exposed to the MCU, parents who're catering to the wants of their children, and the marginally aware semi-fan who has to look up any character outside of the most familiar mainstays. The hook for the casual fan is the MCU and ANYTHING that feeds back into that revenue stream is gravy to Marvel/Disney. Get over it, MCU figs are here to stay. Hell, we're lucky they even provide us with comic canon figs given that the comics are essentially a fiscal afterthought when you directly compare the dollars generated. |

I noticed you showed no pictures of black panther in jungle action tpb.. im sure that's what parademon is refering to, not a bunch of 2000 and up era stories. |

Anyone else thinking we might be able to get a Sauron out of that Lizard BAF eventually? |

************************************************** ***' HOly mother of god. That second Thor trailer is nearly as awesome as the first one (the song from the first one tips it over the edge.) I don't know how good the movie is actually going to be, though it really looks like it will be awesome, but I think Marvel produced the two best trailers they've done so far for this movie. Seriously the Thor movies were some of the lower points of the MCU for me but this just looks....amazing. Then I go watch the Justice League trailer and it's just awful nuts. I wanna punch Flash in the face. They think he's edgy funny but it's just annoying. |

I think outside of the wedding with Storm, probably fewer then 5 issues from the late 80's to now of his solo comic to be honest. More if you count his crossovers/team ups. Quote:
I don't even know what the point of your argument is. I was going to remind everyone that Hasbro merely has the license to the IP and they have to please both Disney/Marvel who they got the license from and who can pull it, and the Vendors who buy their case assortments on the assumption they'll sell and have to offer an assortment that will please them, but instead I kept wondering just what "other" line that movie figures would go to otherwise and just how much Marvel Legends would suffer without having any movie figures. Even Mattel doesn't run movie lines, they're all part of Multiverse, which has TV, comic, and movie figures all mixed together with some waves that are single topic, but still part of the Multiverse branding and slotted in as waves with the mixed assortments. |

Imagine this: some kid goes and watched the Black Panther movie...they go toy shopping for Killmonger and the Dora Milaje, and find Namor, Black Bolt, Iron Man...while they recognize Iron Man for sure, they already have a bunch of him, they're not going to necessarily buy him again. Based on just watching the movie they have no idea who Namor or Black Bolt are either, so it's not really like they would have a desire to pick them up. It's poor marketing tie in either way. Marvel is doing a tremendous job wtih Black Panther from what I've seen so far, Hasbro is dropping the ball all over the place. The more I analyze this wave the less logical it becomes. |
[QUOTE=Parademon1;718958]Answer truthfully, how many of you here have actually ever read BP comics from the 60's till now? I bet less than 20% of you can say you have. The vast majority of you just know of BP due to his appearance in CW. News flash for you MCU fans, the Panther's list of villians & allies in the comics that are actually popular or relevant is very small. His female bodyguards have hardly ever been a centerpiece for comic stories that I have read. His major arch-villain's list consists of like 3, with Klaw being the most famous followed by Man-Ape & Kilmonger. I would buy all 3 if re-done. QUOTE]
Black Panther has been my favorite hero since 1994(I was 7 years old). I saw him on an episode of Fantastic Four, which is my all time favorite superhero team. Growing up as a young black man, it was great to see someone who looked like me take it to who I thought was the greatest team ever created. My mother took me to my local comic book store, and the owner who was recently killed this year because of a petty criminal pointed me in the direction of a Black Panther comic and I was hooked. Panther represented Blacks and Africa in a light that I'd never seen before. Christopher Priest run on Black Panther helped me escape from the world when I got older and had me carrying myself a different way. I've never looked at him as a superhero, but as my favorite young director Ryan Coogler put it, he's a Politian. This man bears the weight of an entire Nation. His Dora Milaje show women empowerment. T'Challa said no more to the Wives in Training, he said let them train and show their true skills. This is going on a bit long, but I love and adore this character with ever fiber of my being. What a truly empowering representative of African culture, and maybe beyond that the evolution of change. T'Challa once said "The old ways are dead". Wakanda, just like every civilization in the history of man is not immune to change...I'm done. |
And honestly....it's not hard to come up with a kickass BP wave that people would want to buy that's still within that character's mythos. This is just off the top of my head:
MCU Black Panther MCU Nakia MCU Killmonger Comic Klaw Comic Storm Comic Shuri BAF Comic M'Baku If you really feel that Storm MUST be in an X-Men wave, there's tons of other characters you can replace her with. |

Your argument was based on the concept that the Marvel Legends line is NOT an 'MCU' line with the implication being that MCU figs are somehow lesser than, or separate from: Quote:

The movies are now Marvel's main source of revenue and the fans that they cater to are casual, not hardcore. Like it or not, that's just the nature of business. Companies go where the money is; some people call this capitalism. Also: Quote:
This suggests that, at the very least, you understand that 'brand awareness' for the casual fan comes from the films, not the comics. With that in mind, it makes sense that the MCU be just as prominently featured as comic canon figures. In fact, because the movies make BILLIONS and the comics come nowhere close to that amount, we hardcore fans that want the Marvel Legends line to be largely comic canon figures, are very lucky that it's a 65/35 split in our favor as far as what gets made. And all this is coming from someone who is all about comic canon figs...I don't like MCU figs, but I get it...it's the horse not the cart. But again, we can't have a meaningful dialogue about this without coming to mutual agreements on facts and a shared opinion on how to engage in adult discourse. EDIT...additionally, I see equal numbers of comic canon peg warmers as I do MCU figs. |

The disappointment over the lack of movie characters in BP's wave is warranted, but should be expected. The Ant Man and Doctor Strange waves were like this, too, with barely much from the movie and mostly a wave of figures to mark off your ML checklist.
It stands out more here because BP has such a diverse cast, but even if they were all pasty white I still think at least half of them have no chance of ever getting a Marvel Legend figure, especially if there's only going to be one wave to go with this movie. All and all though they just join an already long waiting list of characters from the MCU who deserve a toy but haven't received any yet. |
