For four times the price of the TBS6" version you would want there to be no competition. But sculpt quality seems broadly the same, and are articulation too aside from TBS Phasma not being able to sit. The main difference is the chrome finish, which is superior. But $60 more for some paint and the ability to sit is a lot.

deecee4 03-22-2017 07:15 AM

Mafex comes with more (and better produced) accessories that I think justifies the $60 price. BS version isn't a bad figure at all-I actually like it quite a bit-I guess I just consider mafex to be the "ultimate" version of the character

If budget is a concern, black series Capt.Phasma is just fine- it's a great toy. But for me that chrome makes enough difference that Mafex is a must have for my case. Doesn't mean I'm going to go swap out my 10+ Stormtroopers for Mafex- but on a character like this... that chrome just makes too much impact to not to have it properly represented.

Are the SWB 6-inch 40th Anniversary figures available at retail? Just found out about these.

Weapon X 03-27-2017 07:55 PM

Even though I'm not much into the Black Series, I really want a Kylo Ren and the new Stormtrooper. Idk why, they just look really nice.

Not yet that I've heard of and the only people that have gotten them in hand are the people who were lucky enough to get them when Hasbrotoyshop had their early access offering. April sounds like the mass release on those and I'm not seeing any reasons why retail stores wouldn't get them.

Figures like the Kylo Ren (with his helmet) and any of the troopers are what make the Black Series great. The actor likeness based figures tend to drag things down with minimal or just sloppy paint that do no favors to the figures themselves. The sculpts are there as some customizers have shown that with a pro paint job they can look awesome but Hasbro doesn't put that much effort into paint on faces. The characters in helmets though, and the few aliens/droids we've gotten in the line, are what pulled me into the new scale. They aren't Hot Toys level of course but for the msrp we're paying they look pretty great. Boba Fett, the Stormtroopers (and Sand/Snowtroopers), the TIE and AT-AT Pilots, Bossk, hell even Greedo, all the First Order troops, etc. do fantastic jobs of being 6" scale versions of what we saw in the movies and all sport probably more than enough articulation on average for what you need them to do. I mean let's be honest barely anybody (nobody really) in the OT besides Luke was doing any backflips or whatever.

The new Target-exclusive AT-ACT Troopers have finally begun hitting stores !
After buying multiple 6" SWB Death Troopers and numerous Scarif Stormtroopers, as well as the Hovertank Pilot, I just can't rationalize picking up any more Rogue One Stormtroopers.

However, I nearly gave in and picked up a couple of these AT-ACT drivers, but since I haven't even picked up the Original Trilogy AT-AT Trooper, I couldn't justify buying these guys.

The GameStops in my area have been promoting these heavily, and have been advertising a release date of April 14th or 17th (I honestly can't remember which), so hopefully these will be showing up everywhere else around the same time.

To be fair, the MAFEX has waaaay more range of articulation than the TBS figure. Also, while the Hasbro figure's sculpt is good, the MAFEX sculpt is definitely sharper. This review is a good overview of the figure and its similarities to and differences from the other 6" Phasmas:

Actually it is about even. The BS version has thigh swivel where Mafex doesn't and Mafex has the bicep swivel and toe articulation while BS doesn't. The key thing is that Mafex is better engineered so that it has better range of motion than the BS figure. Which is why Mafex Phasma is able to sit down.Plus the cloth cape frees up a lot of movement as well (my major gripe with the SHF Phasma articulation-wise).

Luke, Old-bi Wan and Leia are re-stocked on Hasbrotoyshop.com as of this morning. Looks like R2 and Han are already out.

Zorn88 03-30-2017 08:52 AM

I still haven't found the Revan wave at retail. I'll probably never get Revan.

Thanks, Hasbro.

The only store I've ever actually physically seen this wave at was a Thinkgeek and even though I was there when they unboxed them they didn't have any Revan or Sabine on hand. This wave has been frustratingly online only so far even though it was never intended to be online only. Even though I locked down Revan through BBTS (thankfully) I'm still kinda pissed at the distribution or really the lack thereof. Revan won the fan poll by a more than healthy margin, he shouldn't be this hard to find.

Skoob 03-30-2017 02:09 PM

Canada's Wal-Mart seems to have oodles of 6" Sabine figures available through the website. (Revan sold out quickly.) Online sales seem to be the new focus, as local stores haven't received any new inventory since before Christmas, when somebody made the decision to fill the aisle with a special display containing hundreds of K2SOs, Old Hans, Jangos and Death Troopers.

and they complain about sales at brick & mortar because of online sales1 well if they actually had something in stock we wouldn't have to order online!

Me too. Shame you have to destroy the collectors packaging if you ever want to display her.

Well, you don't have to COMPLETELY destroy it if you're careful...

Lionheart 03-31-2017 11:48 AM

Yeah I know... but any kind of opening that you can't successfully close renders the collectors packaging obsolete. I like the 40th packaging, it's just such a gyp that Hasbro fixed the Leia face for this version while leaving everyone else with the regular openable Black version being so... not Carrie.

Guess they expect you to buy 2...

Though if you want the better one on the shelf, and the less good one to replace it in the packaging(and are willing to not resell it later)...I guess you could try heating up the glue on the side with less card to damage and slide out the protective bubble real quick, do the switch, and put the bubble back in, regluing it into place.

redfox 03-31-2017 02:58 PM

Luckily/unluckily I never found the Black series Leia, so hopefully I'll have better luck(unluck?:p) this time around. Definitely don't want to miss out on her again.

Now you've got me thinking...

BBTS and DorksideToys have the 40th Anniversary Darth Vader available for preorder.
