Is it better to make it a character no one really cares that much about like with Titus and risk your Wal-Mart being stuck with those same figures for the next year, or make it a character a lot of people are going to want even more than the figures the parts come with like with Mantis and needing to buy the unwanted Gold guy just for an arm?

My side of the matter (here comes the broken record again) is that Hasbro should just not do BAFs anymore and just release those figures instead as deluxe figures coinciding with the regular waves or just as regular figures (in cases such as Mantis).

Jerseysteel 08-02-2017 01:25 PM

Really if they are gonna continue the BAF thing, I wish they would do the huge figures like toybiz did. Either that, or drop the price and don't include any BAF stuff at all.

jwyss234 08-02-2017 01:28 PM

Just a heads up to anyone interested, most e-tailers have the 12"(14.5") Marvel Legends Hulk in stock or up for preorder. Unfortunately he's $75.

I agree with you entirely. I didn't used to see that ever in the future from a sales standpoint as they can make people buy less popular figures. However, seeing Ares who was once a BAF makes me wonder if they are testing the waters. People may stop buying BAFs if they believe that the same figures will be released in the future only with better articulation and paint. It confuses me slightly as to what they are doing but I think they are testing waters for a future change.

I'm probably going to start in on the 12" Legends here soon. I'd wait for that Hulk price to come back down to Earth.

Batman finally lost it and killed the Joker...can't say that I blame him. Suicide Squad sucked...

They would have actually had to re-engineer and remold the Hyperion mold that Ex Nihilo was made on if they were gonna make him the BAF, as he wasn't designed to be put together like a BAF (none of the standard figures are, unless they're made on a mold that already was a BAF in the past). Mantis was already a new mold (like all the other GotG vol. 2 figures), so she didn't have that problem.

If they drop the prices on them, then they're cost the same as the 3.75 line haha...

Less haha. I too am in the ditch the baf thing camp. I mean with the 12 inch legends line they could easily give proper size variable figs like apocalypse, sentinels, the various giant men/ Goliath's, onslaughts, etc, plus if giving normal sized figs is the baf future its time to go back to just figs and shitloads of gear.

Well those are overpriced as well. I would have totally bought that line when it came out of they stuck to the G.I. Joe prices, but they decided to up the prices instead.

Dr Kain 08-02-2017 03:22 PM

I opened up Netflix PUnisher and DD today. DD has a lot of loose joints. I can barely even get him to stand up due to how loose they are. Punisher is fine. His guns will make a nice addition to the Walgreens Punisher.

EDIT: Jeddostle beat me to it.

Anyway, they had the new 12 inch Legends Hulk and Thor at my local Target today. Very tempted.

I would like this as well but sadly it will most likely never happen. It is a pretty obvious way to get collectors to buy a whole wave so that they can complete the BAF figure; thus increasing profits. Once the "most sought" characters stopped including a piece, it became even more obviously so. They know those characters will sell even without a BAF piece.

No BAF in the recent Star Lord (Titus wave), Wolverine/OML (Jubilee, Juggernaut or Warlock waves). Symbiote suit Spidey only came with add-on hands that were not necessary to complete the BAF unless you wanted those extras.

That is not to say this is always the case as I know Star Lord from the Mantis wave came with a piece but it generally seems to happen more often than not with recent waves. I also wonder if eliminating the BAF draw for less desired characters would cause them to stop being made altogether.

For the KC crew, 95th St TRU has the Star Lord/Ego 2 pack, 12" Thor and the Iron Man and Star Lord Legends Series helmets. The helmets look cool from the box art but not $100 cool IMO. I passed on the lot. No interest in Kurt Russel and Star Lord is nearly identical to the Titus wave version.

Wolverine came with Juggy's head. Deadpool was the one from that wave with no BAF piece.

Noland and 40 had them too, also the 3.75" Ragnarok figures. All the Homecoming packs are sold there. Glad I got mine. These 2 packs are moving so fast. Cyclops/Phoenix, Mary Jane/Spidey, Iron Man/Spidey, and now Ego/Starlord.

Ah yeah good point. Although, Deadpool was arguably the more sought after character from the wave so the point could still stand.

Stocking in this area of town is REALLY hit and miss. The east side in MO seems to have the best luck but it is not exactly close by for me. I almost always find something every time I stop in at Wal-Mart or TRU over there. I passed on the Homecoming set at 95th as well. If I had not bought 9 figures last night I might have picked it up but it is not a high priority for me.

I find it interesting that BBTS (?) is offering constructed BAF's. That's a clever side hustle to offset what has become an 'abusive' build-a-figure business model. Remember when BAF's were exciting and sought after?

It can fit snugly into the mouth area of the helmet ;)

Indeed I do. I have occasionally considered buying one of the constructed BAFs from Dorkside but I can never justify the single figure cost in my head. Never mind the fact that I am the same guy who spends 60 bucks on Figuarts....

I think between that, the Groot evolution exclusive, and the Homecoming Vulture wings that they're clearly testing a few waters.

I believe the BAF method is too tried and true for Legends, and while I'd love to ditch a random character limb for a simple included display stand I don't think Hasbro is confident in a set-up that doesn't include incentives like BAF pieces to convince people to buy figures they wouldn't normally ever buy. But they must be thinking of ways to switch it up at least, which does help.

Captain Nash 08-02-2017 04:40 PM

Hey ya'll it could be worse, they could be doing chase figures instead of BAF. Those damn figures were the bane of my TB collecting days.

Parademon1 08-02-2017 04:58 PM

How about instead of BAFs , they start including 3-4 sets of different hands & 3 extra heads displaying different emotions from a smirk or sneer to angry rage yelling or gritting their teeth. I'd love it if they included a "taking a punch to the face" sculpt on the unmasked characters and for the masked characters, their eyes could be wide open in surprise or "squinting" in pain. If the 10 inch scale is as big as they are willing to go , then the only 3 figures I want them to make as final BAFs are Sasquatch, Champion & classic Sentinels. The Sentinels would be army built by a lot of us & Dorkside could make a killing selling them loose!
