Do you remember all the figures they had Roxx?

DogFashionDisco 06-23-2012 09:21 PM

So I found this guy today, I almost didn't recognize him at first. I looked him up on eBay and the only one listed there is about $89, so why the hell is he so expensive? It's a cool figure though, and I'm going to try and read some of the New Gods stuff to get a better understanding of this figure and why he is so rare.

From wave 19? Magog and Atom, 2 each, and maybe a Kobra, but I'm not positive.
Dove from Wave 20, Cyclotron from Wave 13
maybe some others, but I'm not positive

Roxxstar 06-23-2012 09:26 PM

That's pretty cool DFD, where did you find him?

DogFashionDisco 06-23-2012 09:34 PM

A store that resells figures, they have a few in different towns around me, and I went to a new one today (new to me anyway). This particular store basically had a wall of used figures (TMNT, Star Wars, DC, Marvel, etc.) and I couldn't find anything I was interested in, but my girlfriend spotted something she thought looked like what I collect (DCUC) and it ended up being Lightray. I looked right over it because of all the inventory they had, and luckily my girlfriend is badass, because I would have probably missed it.

That's pretty lucky! I wish we had anything worth a darn like that around her, but then I doubt my wallet would feel the same lol
My wife has caught stuff I've missed in retail a few times, or found some great things while checking while I'm at work.
We're always lucky to find wives and girlfriends like this.

DogFashionDisco 06-23-2012 09:52 PM

Agreed, my girlfriend is the best thing that has ever happened to me, and it is really cool that she is willing to help me out with my hobby. As far as the hunt, I'm not a rich man, so I am really picky about what I buy, but lately I've had a bit of luck.

I understand that LOL my wife helps me keep perspective and keeps me from going overboard. This has helped me streamline my hobby honestly. My lucky comes in the far and few between yardsale and craigslist gems. I almost drove 3 hrs for con exclusive white lantern flash and batman for $70, but the guy seemed shady.

DogFashionDisco 06-23-2012 10:04 PM

I hate Craigslist, I contacted a guy on there about a Batmobile once, and he sent me pictures of a few, then all of the sudden stopped talking to me that day. A few days later this dude asks, "you still collect toys?". What the hell, haha. As for yard sales, I never find shit. I usually feel stupid for even showing up to one, I'm always surrounded by old people and they are never friendly at all.

Lol, I feel you...Dog(?) (Sorry, bad pun. lol)

Anyway yeah, after having not gone to any Garage sales in almost a year I went this morning and got several uncomfortable stares from crotchety old folks. Though I am happy to say I found an awesome Batman figure I've never seen before that I got for my son.

Its like a 12 inch Batman Begins suit Batman with a shitload of articulation. Seriously, his feet alone are insane...ankle swivels, ankle rockers, and swivel rockers (where the old school rockers pin into the leg and swivel 360)

Needless to say, my son went "Banana's" when I gave it to him. :)

DogFashionDisco 06-23-2012 10:28 PM

Oh god, please stick with DFD, haha.
Anyway, I'm glad you were able to hook up your kid with a figure that spectacular. If your son really likes Batman, he obviously deserves a decent figure to inspire his imagination. Nice work!

i would have prefered atrocitus to be Ares/Lobo Height....would have been just right...he's wayyyyy tooo small and my Lobo is wayyyyy to Larger...WTF!!!!!!!!!! someone should be fired.....people get shit canned over things way smaller than this. IMO.....these are grounds for someone to be unemployed!!!

M3T4L V1KING 06-24-2012 01:08 AM

After reading first couple of New 52 Earth 2 comics, I really hope Mattel makes Earth 2 versions of Jay Garrick, Alan Scott, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Superman. I doubt they will, but I'm hoping for at least Garrick and Scott.

DogFashionDisco 06-24-2012 01:09 AM

Awesome! That is a great figure, and you couldn't have found a better price. Yes, I remember what it cost.

They have no idea what the hell people want. That said, most people don't seem to know what the hell they want. I guess once the majority of people get their fill of a character, that's it. Then that endeavor is done and gone, and it is a lost cause for Mattel.

That line is surprisingly growing on my as something I'd feel comfortable letting my kids play with. (I worry about letting them play with DCUC. ..too expensive!). And this line has the nice Batmobile.

You answered your own question a little. . .there's few for sale.

I didn't know who this guy was either, until I watched the Justice League cartoon. He showed up in a few episodes there. I guess just suffice it to say that among the New Gods heroes, he's pretty high up there. Not as important as Orion probably, and maybe just a step under Mister Miracle.

He's rare because he was only released in the Toys R Us two-pack in 2008 with Orion (which had a removable helmet). And this pack is one of the few that the figures had not been released prior (well, Orion was in DCUC wave 1 with a fixed helmet), has not been released again, and never got single-card treatment. Abin Sur from this series of 2packs fits the same bill, but at least he was available again in a different form when the GL movie toys came out.

Anyhow, that is a great find. He's one of the top 5 hardest to find DCUC's.

Roxxstar 06-24-2012 08:31 AM

Yardsales around here are generally swarmed by other kinds of people, the old people don't even bother anymore... I've manage to get a few great deals on toy lots at them since these people aren't after old toys LOL

BTW, what are the top 5 or 10 hardest DCUC figures to get??

This is just my opinion, but here's what I think, in no certain order. . .

--Lightray -- TRU exclusive, not rereleased, repacked, retooled, or repainted
--Lobo -- SDCC exclusive
--Giganta head, torso, and mini-Atom that came with wave 8 Gentleman Ghost
--Chemo legs that came with wave 9 Guardian and Black Adam
--if you'll allow a reach back, DC Superheroes wave 8 Batman
--Gleek -- SDCC exclusive (but A LOT of them have popped up on eBay of late)
--removable-helmet Orion -- packed with Lightray, but not as demanded because of the availability of the DCUC wave 1 version
--again a reach-back, but DCSH Clark Kent -- a Target exclusive in a 2pack
--wave 13 naked Cheetah variant
--Color of Fear 2pack
--Un-Men -- SDCC exclusive
--TRU exclusive All-Star Batman

Honorable mention to wave 4 masked Batman Beyond, DCSH Catwoman and Two-Face.

I know, I went over 10. . .

I'd Agree with you for the most part...Lightray, Color of Fear, Lobo, Wonder Twins W/Gleek. But Collect Connect pieces are just as tough...you were spot on with Giganta head and the Chemo legs

I was lucky to find All-star batman at my TRU last week!

Thanks :)
It's annoying because I remember seeing each and every one of those (available at retail) in the years before collecting DC stuff LOL I remember black adam, gentleman ghost, All Star Batman in particular peg warming locally for a while and considered picking them up

Torn Prince 06-24-2012 10:45 AM

That DCSH Scarecrow and Bane still fetching awful prices?
