Didn't realize Ares was different either. I'm with you on that BM, it makes me feel better about getting him.....except that the pain of the executioner rumor being false brings.

TheBlueMarvel 08-03-2017 06:01 PM

@Nash

They know we all want the Executioner. Hold out hope!

yup....and.makes me think they were teasing us...about teasing us...about Strong Guy....if he's NOT going to be announced at Hascon...i think he's DEF slated to be released in a wave for 2018/19.

Tim 08-03-2017 06:20 PM

@DTL where the hell are you getting these pictures of these fat super heroes? I don't know why but they're hysterical

Well they clearly pay attention to the message boards to some extent and they know everyone was bummed he didn't make it into the Gladiator Hulk wave.

My hope is they'll do him in a different wave where they can put some more work into him this time (since Odinson shows me most of the tooling budget for this wave was likely eaten up by the other figures).

For all my bitching lately, I just scored the entire Thor wave and a couple deals by hitting a Walmart in a small town near here. I did my research, and happened to catch them stocking their truck. This town is a nice little honey hole. I scored almost the entire Warlock wave at the Walgreens in this town for $10 a piece a few months ago. I might have to move there.

BTW, Hela looks wickedly nice. Worst figure might be Odinson, but he ain't bad.

Robb 08-03-2017 07:04 PM

I hope it is not near me. (I am in Aiken S.C.)

Haven't ventured to Aiken...yet.

The Florence TRU is pretty nice though, haven't been to the one in Augusta yet. The one in Columbia is hot garbage. Don't waste your time there.

I did leave the extra Loki and MCU Thor. They were working on building the display when they let me pick through the pallet. Good timing. I probably over paid for a couple figures that will be >$10 in a few months....but I'm pretty sure that Hela and Ares will be impossible to find in a few months.

Yeah everyone is saying Odinson was just a cheaply cobbled together kitbash to offset the tooling expense on everyone else in the wave.

Do you have the BAF Ares? I'll know first hand in a couple of weeks, but I'm curious to find out whether the new fig is just a re-deco. Is there anything different outside of the paint app?

Ares is a straight repaint, with only the bottom half of the legs being different. The legs from the knee down were originally from the Odin BAF, meaning that Ares now has a better bend at the knee as well as an ankle pivot, something he didnt have previously. His chest armor is painted differently, as well as his arms and head. He also comes with the axe that came with the Bearded Thor figure from a long ways back.

I don't get to the one in Augusta a lot but when I do it is either picked over or they just don"t get anything. Some things I can get a friend who lives closer to pick up things from time to time.

Very nice. Sounds like there are quite a few things to look forward to...That bearded Thor was the Rune King Thor. I have it and its variant. Not that pose friendly, but a very cool sculpt.

Spyne98 08-03-2017 08:07 PM

Returned my Trypticon today... long story. Doesn't need to be retold, but I got a new one. While I was out, I found an Ares. He's great. I have the old BAF, but I like this one too. I saw Hela too, she looks great. I may cave and buy her. Such a cool looking figure.
I also got the A-Force set in the mail. I really like the set except Singularity. I don't know much about her. I have an artist friend who would body paint people, and Singularity looks like one of her models. Not the worst figure I have ever seen, but she doesn't wow me. I ended up really liking Monica and Bloodstone. They are fantastic!

Thanks man, let me shoot you a PM.

My Dazzler bust fell backward and has a massive hole in the head. Polaris bust, fell backward too and smashed her cloth, and my Mini Invisible Woman had some Geisha art falling on her hands. It's devastating. Then my cleaner grab my Platinum lady by chance and now she has no arms. Haha!

Rogue, Jocasta, Medusa, Black Widow and Dazzler are doing OK. But faaar away from anyone. Definitely not in glass shelves.

Umm...I was making a joke about Ghost Rider idk what you're on about.

So I popped on Hela's "unmasked" head and really liked it. So much so that eventually if I'm able to, I'm gonna buy another Hela to display both looks.

You gotta share a pic of Trypticon fighting some Avengers or something. I want to live vicariously through you.

Jerseysteel 08-04-2017 04:28 AM

Check your walmarts, just got the whole wave of Marvel Knights this morning. Feels good to be done shopping for ML again LOL. Well except for the A force set

Not much to be said that hasn't been said many times prior by others, but still some quick thoughts and then some select pictures.

Really appreciate the write-up and photos. I want them (read: Hela) badly, but opted to pick up the A-Force set first because I knew that the Thor wave would be around. While these ladies would not.

Every single one of them is a goddamn gem, I love the sculpt work.

@Spyne

I'm glad everything eventually worked out for the best, man.

@Brownfinger

Yeah, the A-force set is pretty awesome. That's the closest we've gotten to an all female wave - funny how collectors used to say that concept would never sell, now people are worried about not being afforded the opportunity to score an A-Force set LOL. I'd love another 6 pack that revolved exclusively around female villains, characters that might not get a retail release. Possible inclusions could be: Goblin Queen, Saturnyne (as the 'tweener between good and evil, similar to Loki in the A-Force set), Selene, Titania, Umar, and Ultron in the Wasp manifestation from the early run of Mighty Avengers. I'd consider that money well spent.
