Mace Windu's not one of the best of the Star Wars Figuarts, but in-hand, the face still pretty much looks like a mini Samuel L Jackson.

Does he say anything about Monkey-fightin' snakes on a Monday to Friday plane?

Me too, definitely one of the worst TV edits.

Or one of the best if you're just looking for a laugh. I also like the edited Fargo where Steve Buscemi says "are you funning me?"

Dr Kain 04-22-2017 07:24 PM

So my Leia figure has a defect. -_- The right hand has the plastic molded over the wrist hinge so the wheel had to break through the skin and now her wrist moves crooked.

Bo Ttef 04-25-2017 08:06 PM

Did a "not-so" quick headswap with 40th and original Vader- just going back and forth on which way I like his cape done- I'm leaning towards the non ANH look as the 4th figure sort of looks like he is wearing a vest... Anyways- if you also want to make this swap keep in mind that the original Vader head is NOTHING like the new one. I used an older figure head cut down to a nub that I put on the vader body and then carved the tip into a shape that could fit inside the 40th vader head and... ta-da....

You mean like he did in the movie? ANH Vader to me is the Vader design when he was the most threatening and the most mysterious.

I mean in his introductory scenes he just strolls over the corpses like "eh" and then he breaks a dude's neck with his hands all while yelling out orders and taking shit from no one. Plus Rogue One has that scene. He was still very cool in Empire and Return but I also gotta admit partial preference for the way in which I first ever saw the guy, first impressions really matter.

... no- he didn't look like he was wearing a vest in the movie-NOTHING about vader in ANH ever struck me that he looked like he had on a dinner vest- lol, but the toy does. In the movie he did look awesome- the toy- not so much. I like it... but it just doesn't translate super well. You can hide the vest look with his cape though... that's not a bad fix

[snip]

The "dinner vest" look, as you call it, is absolutely how Darth Vader looked in A New Hope. In that movie, he wore his tunic over his shoulder armor. In ESB and RotJ, he wore it under, and it revealed the shoulder armor more. The TBS 40th Vader figure is replicating the ANH hope, and therefore, the tunic is over the shoulder armor, and creates a look you have dubbed "dinner vest". Hasbro was literally just doing exactly what the movie did with the costume.

Yep, and I don't know how you think it looks goofy because it looks badass.

Bo Ttef 04-26-2017 08:01 AM

difference of opinioin fellows- no need to get your panties bunched up- The Real vader (again look at the pics) to me at least as a kid- NEVER looked like he was wearing a vest- he looks more like robes and armor. The toy -possibly because the soft goods- looks like a dinner vest. You don't see it? that's cool. For me I can't get past it. So NO he should not look like he is wearing a vest-0 look at the pictures. :)

Dr Kain 04-26-2017 09:14 AM

Not sure how it looks like a vest to you at all. Even after you said that I looked at my Vader and said, "Nope, those are robes."

Although, I do think Jedd misinterpretted what you meant.

So yeah, my TRU got in what must have a been a new case of freaking Rey because there are suddenly 8 Reys sitting on the peghooks. WTF? Why would they stock a new batch of TFA Reys now? Why not stock 8 Sabines and Revans instead?

'Cause they don't wanna make money.

Bo Ttef 04-26-2017 10:14 AM

I think the softgoods material is just throwing me off- I wouldn't mind seeing them try the under-robe in that very soft plastic that Figuarts using on their Jedi skirts...

A case of Rey at Toysrus?
Blame #WheresRey :)
People (that don't typically buy action figures I'm going to assume) started a movement to make sure there was a Rey on the pegs if their little girl wanted her anytime they walked into a toystore... We're still dealing with the fallout now- lol

RolandofGilead 04-26-2017 11:16 AM

I think there should be one of every character on the pegs at all time if some little old guy like me suddenly needs a Darth Sidious or another Jawa.

Weapon X 04-26-2017 11:22 AM

I kinda feel like starting a poll. Do you prefer straps over or straps under for Vader?

I've always preferred straps under, he looks a little silly to me with them over. Reminds me of a cosplayer who put his costume on wrong. They look made to go under.

At least, that was what I usually thought. But recently, I don't know which I prefer.

I can't really decide. Over is classic (to-me) and really has more of a Fantasy/Black Knight feel. While the under look just seems more bad ass showing off his armor and brings to mind Anakin's early Clone Wars armor.... Just going to have to keep multiple Vaders around. :)

MUfan97 04-26-2017 11:57 AM

Can't help but notice that the final Vintage collection poll that was supposed to start today is nowhere to be found...

Weapon X 04-26-2017 12:16 PM

The Rogue One suit designer said he figures Vader has multiple suits. He said he thinks his suit in ANH was really rough looking because it's his battle armor, while in ESB it's shiny for communicating with the Emperor and such. Not a 100% sound theory, but I dig it.

I am beginning to develop a bit more fondness for over the armor straps, they make him look more shadowy and mysterious. I'm not sure.

Then there's also the question of which gloves you prefer....vertical or horizontal lines.

Interesting theory...I could go with that. Or it could've just been time for him to upgrade the outfit.

I'll always prefer the ANH look over the other variations. The inner robe being over the armor looks elegant and gives it that subtle samurai look.

As far as gloves, they got it right in ANH-horizontal stitching-never got why they changed it in the first place. His entire suit has the vertical lining so the gloves being vertical as well is redundant. For a visual design, you typically want areas of contrast so not sure what the thinking was for that.

I have to agree on this, it looks a little weird at times. The only improvement for the horizontal ones I would say it to make them less "ribbed" where the material sticks out between the seems, it makes it look too retro for me. I like Star Wars to always look cutting edge in terms of technology/wardrobe. Unfortunately making ANH first and in 1976 makes any prequels a slave to that.

Even George couldn't bring himself to obey it completely in the prequels. ANH outfits and props are just looking increasingly dated every year.

This. It also serves well to visually call back to the fact that he was once a great Jedi. I love both looks but part of me always thought it was more sensible to have the armor over the robes but as we almost all agree it is more regal to show the robes on top.
