The episode with the crazy Santa, "and all through the house" spooked me out pretty good. It came out when I was like 5 or 6... I have no idea why my mom let me watch that lol. They should make a Santa figure from that one.

It's been years since I last carved a pumpkin, but I decided to do it this year just because. I spent all evening working on this and now I'm gonna show you guys too since y'all don't live in my area anyway.

That looks incredible ! Now you've inspired me to carve a jack-o-lantern this year too !

Trick r Treat - This movie just flat out rocks!! It has a great set of stories and an interesting way of telling them. The characters have little development, but the movie knows what it wants to be and what it wants to do that you really forget all about it. It is unique, original, and is something I would love to see a sequel to (although, it would probably be only half as good). It is also a shame this movie never got a theatrical run as it is better than 95% of the horror movies that have some out in the last five years. Not to mention Sam is an adorable monster. I give it an 8/10 stars.

The one is pretty good, but my favorite from Season 1 is The Man Who Would Be Death.

My favorite episodes of Season 2 include Cutting Cards, Television Terror, Korman's Kalamity, and The Sacrifice. My least favorite is My Brother's Keeper.

I really enjoyed Trick R Treat, but after listening to the opinion and reviews of so many of my friends, I was honestly expecting more. In their opinions, it was one of the top five, if not the best, horror flick of the 2000's. I enjoyed it enough to add it to my small, and highly-selective, collection of horror Blu-Rays, but I wasn't completely floored by it like they were. But then again, I'm sure that if I were a bigger horror fan, I would have appreciated it on a completely different level.

Conversely, while I really enjoyed Cabin in the Woods, my friends all claimed that I built it up so much that they all felt disappointed by it after finally seeing it. Even after multiple viewings, they still mostly agree that it is somewhat overrated, while I think it's great. They are all educated and informed viewers, so they appreciate the deconstructionist approach taken in the movie, but they mostly agree that it was too humorous, and not nearly scary or suspenseful enough to even be classified as a true horror movie.

Yep, Cabin in the Woods is not even remotely over rated and it is a phenomenal movie as well. It brings something fully original to the fold and does it in an interesting way.

I watch this episode for every Christmas now more than Halloween, and my favorite TFTC is from season 2 episode 18 The Secret.

kylactus 10-29-2014 07:56 PM

ok so what is everyone's favorite horror anthology series?
Tales from the crypt
Twilight zone (original)
TZ (remake)
Night Gallery
Outer Limits
Tales from the Dark Side

I'm firmly in the original Twilight Zone camp, with tales from the Dark Side, and Crypt coming in a close second. although, I did like the rest as well... except the TZ remake, it was crap.

For me, it's an unbreakable tie between the original versions of The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits.

Granted, while I've heard great things about Night Gallery, I can't recall ever watching it. If memory serves, I have it queued up on Hulu though.

Also, I recently picked up some inexpensive DVDs of Ray Bradbury Theater. He's my all-time favorite author, so I'm excited to see his short stories interpreted as an anthology TV series.

I've only seen two episodes of Twilight Zone and not a single thing from anything else. As such, Tales from the Crypt.

kylactus 10-29-2014 09:55 PM

oh man you NEED to get on some Twilight Zone! It is probably the best writing of any sci-fi/ horror ever. It never needed gore, sex, CGI, or big casts, a lot of episodes are one to three characters on a single set and almost every concept in any sci-fi horror type movie was done by TZ first. and it has almost every big actor from the 50's and 60's in it. it was like the Tales From the Crypt of it's time. and it delves into subjects that people don't even touch today in media. It was way ahead of it's time
My favorite episode was The Arrival, it follows a group of NTSB guys reconstructing a plane crash to determine what went wrong. nothing in in the evidence makes any sense, and the three guys were all seeing the evidence slightly differently, at the end one of them figures out what was happening, there was no crash, no plane at all, and they were all seeing what they expected to see because they were called to respond to a crash... it was a form of mass hallucination brought on by the stress of the job, and after he tells the others they look up and the hanger is empty.

I'm surprised so far that I haven't seen anyone mention "Behind The Mask: The Rise Of Leslie Vernon" in any of the posts here so far...so I'm gonna throw this one out there, if you haven't seen it...check it out. One part spoof, one part mockumentary, and one part horror film, I love how this one brings various other slasher movies (Halloween and Friday the 13th for example) into the real world as events that actually happened, and how those events spawn other seemingly normal people into becoming copycats, so they too can become the next notorious "masked" killer. I love how Leslie explains the importance of trip wires (so your victim falls down at the worst of times) having a good cardio and diet regimen (because you have to briskly walk after your victims when spotted by them) and shortcuts (because it goes hand in hand with the cardio, because when they lose sight of you, you have to run your ass off so you can appear in front of them!)

The movie goes from mockumentary into full blown slasher flick by it's end, and is pretty cleverly written, especially for a low budget flick. Like someone said about Trick R' Treat earlier, it puts to shame a lot of others that have hit the theaters, which is no small feat for a straight to video affair. I highly recommend.

Fair enough assessment. I think we have all had this happen to us at some point. Same thing happened with me with movies like "Superbad" and "The Hangover." They just didn't do anything for me, but everyone and their mother swears that they are the some of the funniest movies ever written.

My favorite part of "Trick R' Treat" is the fact that it was an anthology movie, done in the style and paying homage to others like Creepshow, Tales from the Darkside (and Hood...which I also loved), The Twilight Zone and of course Tales from the Crypt. Seeing how everything tied together and wrapped up on that one fateful night was really awesome...especially when we see the role that Sam plays in all of it.

My favorite episodes of "Tales From The Crypt" were not so much the jump scare or horror episodes, but the ones that made you kinda stop and think for a moment going..."That's really F'D up!" Here are a few of my favorites...

"Dig That Cat...He's Real Gone" - Season 1
"The Secret" - Season 2
"The Switch" - Season 2
"My Brother's Keeper" - Season 2
"Yellow" - Season 3

Why would you do that? Have you been an asshole of late? Are you punishing yourself? Do you need to talk about the emotional-trauma you've no doubt experienced from sitting through that shit-fest?

kylactus 10-31-2014 07:28 AM

Nice pics Dr. Kain! On Ghoulies, I hadn't watched it since I was like 8, and I didn't remember it (although the poster of the ghoulie in the toilet has always stuck in my mind) and I've burned through most of my favorite Halloween fare, and it was on AMC. those are my only excuses. about three minutes in I had a pretty good idea what I was in for. but I just picked up Deliver us from evil, hopefully it will balance out my crap levels.

I finished Tales from the Crypt Season 3 this morning, which officially brings my annual marathon of it to an end. Next year I begin with S4.

I also watched Halloween III today as well just because I wanted to. :-)

Well, for me, that is pretty much it as I don't have time to do anything else before we head over to our friend's apartment for her Halloween party. This will probably be the last time I'm on here before midnight, so all of you have fun doing whatever you are doing.

Trivial Psychic 10-31-2014 02:20 PM
