I am self-employed, so I make my own schedule.

My wife has Fri-Sun off. Most of our friends work so much we need to pretty much schedule a time to hang out weeks in advance. We're also bored to death of Colorado, so we don't go out much anymore.

For the past couple of days Ive been watching some of the new recent additions of the DC Comics animated movies on Tubi.

Right now I'm watching the Justice League Aquaman animated movie and its pretty good. Then I'll watch Superman Red Son this week along with Justice League Dark. I hope maybe in January or February, Tubi will add Justice League Crisis on Infinite Earths Parts 1 and 2. Maybe

Totally agree, Pixels was a fun watch! I loved the mix of action and comedy, and the whole 80s nostalgia vibe was spot on. Sandler did a great job as usual, and those cameos from classic 80s stuff were such a nice touch. It’s one of those movies you can watch just to have a good time!

A Christmas Horror Story - Amazing, what Krampus should have been.

Dr Kain 12-25-2024 12:36 AM

Nosferatu - 10/10

Dr Kain 12-29-2024 08:53 PM

Speak No Evil - It wasn't bad, but not exactly stellar either. The husband was a fucking coward the entire movie. McAvoy was creepy, but they showed us everything in the trailer, so there were no surprises with him. I also don't like how everyone pretty much got away unharmed.

Whoever said "Nightbitch" is a horror movie is fucking dumb! The only thing horrifying about it is how god damn boring it was!! It's on par with The Crow. 2/10

Hell House LLC 2 - Not bad for a sequel. It had a couple of legit moments. My only complaints is that I couldn't give a damn about the cast's situation because they themselves willingly walked into this mess and then acted shocked when all went to hell. I also don't get why no one is breaking the windows and jumping out. Like seriously? You're standing right next to a window. Break it open and get the fuck out!!

Nosferatu 1922 - This was my second time watching it and I enjoyed it even more than I did the first time. In fact, some areas I was lost on the first time have been enhanced thanks to the remake. The music is incredible and really fits the mood of everything happening on screen.

Nosferatu 1979 - I can't say I was a fan of it. Dracula sounded way too much like Benny from The Mummy, there were a lot of long and drawn out scenes that led to nothing, and the ending sucked. But damn does it have some funny bits. There is a sequence where Renfield is creeping all up on Dracula, putting his head on his arm, and Dracula just brushes him off while looking like he is having some sort of Vietnam flashback. There's also scene of Dracula running like he's Naruto of something.

I never thought I would find myself bored as all hell watching a slasher movie that follows the viewpoint of the killer, and then we watched "In A Violent Nature." Holy crap, this was so terrible. It felt like someone was trying to make a Friday the 13th film but couldn't afford the Jason license nor a soundtrack and still went ahead with the project. The kills were so fucking boring too. There was one kill where he twists a girl's head through her stomach and out the other side and it was just so monotonous. Like how the hell do you make something of that caliber so fucking tedious? HOW?!

Twisters - Also an utter borefest.

snake5289 12-30-2024 08:17 AM

Probably means the 2024 "Crow" which was absolute dogshit.

Dr Kain 12-30-2024 09:24 AM

I've never seen the original or read the comic, so yeah, I'm talking about the new Crow.

You should. It's a classic for a reason and a great movie to watch around Halloween.

Every day is Halloween. :)

I don't know, I just never really had an interest in The Crow. I only watched this new one because I need movies for my lists.

Anyway, I saw Sonic 3. It was fun.

few things I'm watching on Netflix tonight for New Year's

the last 6 episodes of Season 5 of Naruto
anime movie Grave of the Fireflies
Dune Chapter Two movie which popped up out of nowhere on Netflix today

Dr Kain 01-01-2025 12:17 AM

Spider-Man 1977 - Could have been worse.

Dr Kain 01-18-2025 07:25 PM

We have finished watching all three versions of Island of Dr Moreau and they seemed to get worse as they went along. The original version, Island of Lost Souls, started out fairly accurate to the book and then kind of went off rails as it went on. However, the acting was fantastic, it was atmospheric, and for the most part, captured the heart of what makes a good horror film with the novel. Plus, Charles Laughton was incredible as a creepy Dr Moreau.

The 70s version cuts out the beginning to get the main character to the island as quickly as possible (and I'm calling him the main character because they gave him a different name in each iteration even though he was named Prendick in the book), once again followed a bit of the book and then turned every on its head in its second half. Dr Moreau himself is pretty boring in this one.

And then there is the 96 version that was like 10% book and 90% whatever the fuck that was. There were sequences that made no bloody sense at all like one where the main character is suddenly on a ship and is being attacked by CGI rats, one jumps at him, and it's in the middle of the day with Moreau trying to find out which beastman broke the law. And then there are awkward moments where it's channeling Austin Powers as Dr Moreau is more like Dr Evil with Mini-Me. For some reason Val Kilmer was in this movie and I can't figure out why because he was just doing random nonsense the entire movie, even down to a Godfather impersonation sequence.

Apparently, HG Wells hated Island of Lost Souls, so I bet he would have lost his mind had he lived long enough to see his book tarnished even further, especially with the third version. I don't get why it is so hard for someone to properly adapt such a simple premise nor make it better than a film that is over 90 years old.

The only thing I will say that was consistent throughout all three movies was its make-up work. The Beastmen look fantastic across the board.

watched Easter Bloody Easter on Tubi last night. not bad for a new movie from 2024.

Dr Kain 01-20-2025 12:28 PM

The new Wolf Man was not too bad.

WallySparks 01-22-2025 01:06 PM

It's very edgy just-graduated film school-esque.

Also I saw Sonic 3 also. Best of the bunch if you ask me, super silly.

Freaky w/ Vince Vaughn - Crazy and fun and Vince plays a teenage girl well

Totally Killer - 80's slasher film meets Back to the Future with Sabrina the Teenage witch. I loved it.
